Jonathan H.

Hatfield, PA

About Jonathan

I started my musical education in a children'€™s choir at age 6.
When I turned 8 years old, I began piano lessons. I started violin
at 9 and trombone at 10. I am now proficient on the guitar, bass, and piano. Having completed my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, I am currently on the Dean'€™s list as a music/audio production major, and plan to continue my music education until I earn at least a masters in performance and composition. I started my teaching career at Milestones in Music, a local studio, as an independent contractor, where i was able to gain valuable experience and fine tune m
y curriculum. I am a member of the Grammy U Recording Academy, and have had opportunities to work with a lot of different musicians. (The Recording Academy is the organization that created the most prestigious
award in music, the Grammy). I am the band leader at my church Montco Bible Fellowship, and the lead audio tech for an audio/video group.. Sanctuary Sound. I also do consultant work for organizations looking to setup a sound system/studio. I enjoy recording my own music in my home studio, and learning to play new instruments. I hope to pass my love for music to the next generation!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very laid back instructor... as you will find out! I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate; however, I am a perfectionist and don't allow students to advance until they have learned a particular skill. I would rather a student take forever to learn a song, and practice it with good technique, than be able to play it right away with poor form and posture! I reinforce the value of working toward goals and celebrate with students when they reach them.  I understand that every student has different interests and reasons for wanting to learn an instrument... I try to focus on the areas that are of interest to the student, because if you are enjoying yourself then you will excel.  This does not mean that the subjects and skills that are not of interest will not be taught, because I believe in being a well-rounded musician. I teach both jazz (improvisation/reading chord charts) and classical (written/ composed music).

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is currently not optimal for teaching... I hope to change this within the next year!!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books and other learning materials, but expect to be reimbursed. I expect the student to have their own instrument/equipment. Piano students are required to have a piano or a keyboard with weighted keys/hammer-action (preferably 88 keys), a piano bench and a pedal. Guitar/bass students must have an acoustic/electric guitar/bass with a strap or footstool, pick, and cable and amplifier if applicable! Digital audio students must have their own computer, Digital Audio workstation (software), digital audio interface, speakers/headphones and midi controller. All students must purchase a full size notebook with lined or staff paper!

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical and jazz piano! I am more than proficient at most production software including: cubase, reason, fl studio, melodyne, digital performer and protools... and other editing software such as sony sound forge, audacity, etc...

I'm a self taught player but I couldn't figure out how to play solos, and I never understood jazz concepts to be able to play it. After my first lesson, Johnathon gave me many fundamental points to begin to understand performing a solo. In order to move forward, I need to move backwards and master fundamental techniques. Johnathon was focused, detailed, and clearly communicated the points he was explaining to me. He laid out a detailed plan of what to practice, and I was very happy with my first lesson!

Ricky G.

Ambler, PA

About Ricky

Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile. My students call me "Mr. Rick." I teach acoustic guitar lessons for kids and adults, beginners through intermediate.

I'm the ideal teacher for those who want to play by "ear" while learning the essentials of chord structure, music theory, rhythm, and proper technique for strumming and playing the instrument.

I like making people laugh and having them relax and feel comfortable at our lessons together.

I enjoy working with people coming back to guitar, or just starting for fun because they love the guitar!

For students who want to
play at open mics or in a band, lessons include coaching on performance, and how to pull it all together (including how to properly use the mic and vocal techniques for singing while playing guitar).

For students with aspirations of being in a band, or singer-songwriter, I teach the essentials of songwriting and the basics of music recording, production/engineering and music business.

Students have opportunities to perform at recitals and other venues, plus learn more about the music business, and basics of music production and sound engineering.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a patient and supportive teacher who offers a relaxed and comfortable learning environment for acoustic guitar students, and also for students interested in singing while playing the guitar.

For guitar beginners, we start with the basics including notes, scales, chords and chord patterns, rhythm, and strumming technique. Students start off by learning songs they enjoy and are interested in playing.

As students advance, or for those with previous lessons or who are self-taught, we focus on advanced chord structure and patterns, music theory, and rhythm guitar technique.

For students interested in singing while playing, I coach them in vocal technique and exercises for pitch and vocal strength. We work on performance skills, for both live performance or in a recording studio.

For students with aspirations of being in a band, or singer-songwriter, I teach the essentials of songwriting and the basics of music recording, production/engineering and music business.

I bring extra value to my students through my experience as a performing songwriter, recording artist, and music producer. I've taught college level courses, and have been a panelist at music industry conferences.

Students have opportunities to perform at recitals and other venues throughout the year.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teaching environment includes a fully equipped, professional recording studio with wireless web access. Waiting area inside for parents students bring their own instrument to lessons -- a variety of acoustic guitars are available for student's use at lesson, if needed.

Mason B.

Zionsville, PA

About Mason

My Name is Mason and I've been teaching music to students of all ages since I was 14. I originally taught at a facility near Reading, PA called Zeswitz. While I worked there I studied along side other seasoned professionals in genres like jazz, heavy metal and folk styles. Currently I run a small business. My experience, since I was 8 years old, was built on private lessons from select very accomplished and certified guitarists. I also played in several profitable bands including jazz duos, classic rock trios and currently a blues duo with my lovely wife. I'm also always building and helping l
ocal bands. I'm very pro learning and never satisfied with my playing enough to say I don't have to practice any longer. I share to same attitude towards my students. There are always new grounds to break and new people to meet especially when it comes to guitar. Like Duke Ellington once said, "The wise musicians are those who play what they can master". Thank you for considering!
