Theory is an important element essential to understanding and developing your music. Basic scale patterns such as diatonic, pentatonic as well as the numerous modes will give you insight into what you're doing as well as help you to devise your own songs, if that's something you desire to do.

About Mark

Mark L. I was born in California but raised in the sleepy town of Beaverton, Oregon, enmeshed in massive groves of pine and poplar trees and long, cool rainy days. I entered into the world of creativity and music when I was just thirteen by composing poetry and song lyrics, and began dabbling wit

I worked with Michelle for a little over 2 years. As an adult student, I was super nervous about singing in front of anyone - it took me this long to just sign up for lessons! She was patient with me and gave me lots of tools for dealing with my nerves and stage fright. Michelle helped me to choose songs that I not only wanted to sing but that matched my voice and range. I was hesitant about performing in a recital but Michelle pointed out that it was like training for a marathon - doing all the work but not performing just seemed silly. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely something I'm proud to have crossed off my bucket list.

I’ve been a clarinetist since early childhood and studied classical clarinet very seriously through university. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Performance with a focus on clarinet. I am in my 13th year of teaching private lessons and have prepared my clarinet students for countless auditions for honors ensembles and college music programs.
My teaching style is innovative and open-minded; I treat each student like their own musician and tailor their lesson to best suit their goals and needs. Most importantly, I ask my students what they want out of music lessons instead of presuming they want they same experiences as myself or those around them.
I am currently enrolled in the final segment of clinical studies to become a board certified music therapist. I have experience working with individuals with developmental and intellect disabilities as well as mental health diagnoses.

About Kathryn

Hello! I am an outgoing, peaceful-tempered professional musician with 13 years of private teaching experience. I pride myself on being sensitive to my students' personalities and learning styles to ensure they have the most effective musical experiences. It is important for my students to feel lik

I'm a professional singer, composer, and arranger with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Vocal Performance. I've toured throughout the United States and several countries in Asia.

I teach all ages and welcome beginners. My lessons are customized and catered to the needs and goals of each student. My students can work on vocal techniques and improvisation (e.g., scat singing, melody changing, etc.) over their favorite songs. If they would like, I can help my students build a solid foundation in music theory, composition, and arranging.

I've taught older students who have a passion for jazz and also younger students who are exploring the many wonderful aspects of this music.

Above anything else, I'd like to make sure my students are having fun and expressing their love for singing!

I started taking lessons with Aya about three weeks ago and they have been great! I'm a former jazz vocalist who is getting back into singing with hopes to perform again in the near future. Aya is a patient, knowledgeable, and fun teacher. With her guidance, I feel confident that I'll be able to regain the voice I once had. I highly recommend her!

"Bil is knowledgeable and encouraging. I’m a beginner piano student, with aspirations of playing jazz. And while I’m not yet playing any jazz standards, Bil has taught me the beauty of extended chords, how to quickly build certain voicing of 7th and 9th chords, and encouraging me not only to play with them, but also to start modifying other songs I’ve already learned with said chords. His love for music theory and composition are evident, and he is eager to share his knowledge with his students at their own pace and level of understanding. For anyone considering Bil, I would encourage you to take a lesson with him and experience his easygoing yet focused teaching style."

"Yuliya was my teacher in college while I was a music major. She was always really encouraging and helped me to develop my technique and passion for the instrument. She was really good about giving specific recommendations for spots to improve in my pieces and helped me to pick literature that advanced my abilities and were really enjoyable to play. There were a few times when I was prepping for auditions and she would meet with me extra to go over audition material or help me work on music for ensembles I was in. I would definitely recommend her as a teacher for any student!"

"As highly as Dave's previous reviews spoke of him, he still managed to exceed any expectations I had. He was calm, reassuring, and it was immediately apparent just how comfortable he is teaching small children. Dave managed to hold the attention of my 5 year old for the entire lesson, and left my son excited about learning and confident that he can do it! I feel very fortunate to have found such a great teacher for my child."

"Corey is the single biggest reason I stuck with music and was eventually accepted to several notable music conservatories including the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and Oberlin Conservatory. I began studying with Corey at the age of 9, and he made the entire learning process exciting and engaging. His enthusiasm for music is contagious for students at all levels, and his expertise in guiding his pupils through the extremely complex process of learning a stringed instrument is unparalleled. Corey brings decades of pedagogical and professional experience to each lesson, and is always eager to impart this wisdom on his students. I cannot recommend Corey enough, for students at any level he is the best teacher you will be able to find!"

"I love Ginni! I had very little experience singing before and it's only been a month and a half and I have my basic technique down! I still need to practice of course, but I feel more and more confident after each lesson. I have always enjoyed singing but nothing feels better than properly using my voice, being able to express emotion while relaxing and in comfort. I make the drive from Scottsdale just for her!"

"Fawn is one of the best musicians I know (and I know quite a few), so I was honored to have the chance to work with her and become one of her students. She is good at gauging my proficiency level and working at a pace that suits my needs. Sometimes scheduling issues come up on my end, and she is always readily adaptable, understanding and willing to add extra time if forget a lesson or cancel less than 48 hours before my scheduled time. As incredible as she is, I have no doubt that her prowess as an instructor shall only increase. I would recommend her to anyone and I look forward to continually improving my craft of songwriting, playing and singing.

Piano Exercises and Tips for Small Hands

Whether your child is struggling with their piano practice -- or you're an adult learner with small hands -- sometimes reaching those octaves and other tough chords may seem impossible. As you continue through your piano lessons, exercises focused on dexterity and flexibility should be a big part of your practicing routine. Here are a few tips to help with playing the piano for small hands: 1. Break out that metronome. A metronome is invaluable to your practice, especially when you're trai …
