Tracy D.

Edmond, OK

About Tracy

I have been playing the drum set in various bands since 2001. I have also been playing with the OKC Community Orchestra since 2009. I have played in symphonic and jazz bands and a percussion ensemble. I have taught a percussion class, private lessons, and I have been a full time music teacher in the OKC district. I have recorded in the studio also, and I enjoy doing a bit of my own production. Rocking on stage is my favorite activity! I can teach you how to be an integral part of a band and play along to your favorites. I enjoy bringing out the best in a student and teaching to his/her s
trengths. Let's run!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easygoing and patient teacher. I fully understand that the drum set requires a high level of coordination, and I am mindful of this while working with students. I will begin with proper grip and stroke technique as well as the use of a metronome. I will teach the student to read rhythms and drum set notation. I know how to isolate difficult patterns, break them down into understandable parts, and reintegrate them into a piece. I like to use the music that a student enjoys to relate to the written music. I have found YouTube to be an indispensable tool for this, and my students have responded very well. I will work on snare drum technique as well, because it is the primary voice on the set, and the touch and nuance required to play it well relate to the set as well. I will tailor my instruction to suit the student's learning style and preferences. I want to make the learning fun, so I will help the student quickly gain the basic skills to play along with their favorite bands. This promotes musicality as well as solid time. It will also aid in transcription, which will come with development and is a valuable tool. I will use this in tandem with technique-building exercises to form a well rounded musician. I believe that a student should have a familiarity with his/her instrument, so we will also go over the anatomy and tuning of the set. Above all, music should be fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ drum set, hand drums, and seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a practice pad, snare drum, and sticks. If a student wishes to have drum set lessons in his/her home, that instrument should be there.
**Please note** I do have a drum set in my home.

*** Specialties ***
For the drum set, I am the most experienced in rock, country, and bluegrass styles. I am comfortable with both Stevens and Burton grips for mallet instruments.

Chris is an amazing teacher and musician. I have had online trumpet lessons with him and it really helped me become better with techniques I didn't really learn about with other teachers. I would really recommend him as a musical instrument teacher, if it's for both beginners or advanced players.
Thank you for your help Chris.

Chris, "Chris Brass", is an amazing trumpet teacher. I've taken trumpet and French horn lessons with him at Long Lake Camp for the Arts for the past four summers, and he's helped me tremendously with both of these instruments. I have been able to gain more of a hold on techniques, as well as learn a ton of tips and tricks from Chris that I am very thankful for. Overall, Chris is a very talented and amazing teacher, and also a very kind person.

James H.

Edmond, OK

About James

From the age of 7, I studied with the legendary Ernestine Scott, who taught at Oklahoma City University for 40 years. I began teaching my own students in high school. When I was 18, I was piano soloist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. At age 21, I won the Clara Wells National Piano Competition, judged by the famed Jorge Bolet.

Now, at the age of a grandfather, I still love teaching music to students of any age. If you or your child wants to enjoy playing the piano, give me a call…I look forward to speaking with you.

Kaitlynn M.

Oklahoma City, OK

About Kaitlynn

Hello students! I am so excited you are considering starting the violin or interested in continuing your studies! I am a recent graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA; there I got my bachelors in both music and Spanish. At Cornell I participated in symphonic orchestra all four years and was in the top 3 chairs of the first violin section. I also have experience with chamber music including playing in a string quartet that toured the Iowa area. I am a Denver native that just moved to the area and am trying to build my studio. In Colorado I taught private and group lessons with students
of all ages and beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Although I am classically trained, I also have played/ taught rock, bluegrass, fiddle and "pop" music. If you take lessons with me, we will address what specific skills you would like to learn/ improve, while polishing things like technique and positioning. I would love to get in touch with you and help you achieve your own music goals!
