About Katherine (Kay)
Taught 41 years as a band director
Principal Trumpet with Beloit/Janesville Symphony

I like to teach in a style that is functional and interesting. Students will be doing a variety of activities at each lesson. The focus will be determined by their needs.

As students become more proficient in music their enjoyment of musical activities will increase. The success of completing various levels of musical achievement will carry over to other lifetime skills.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will work with each student depending on their individual needs. We will strive to produce steady improvement in player proficiency.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should have a music stand and instrument

*** Specialties ***
I like to teach based on the individual. I have taught group and private lessons. The materials I use are varied, with an emphas
is on scales, theory, and also some duet playing. I also like to incorporate some music history into each lesson. I feel that each student needs to work from known to the new areas. I often use supplementary materials (solos or small ensembles) to reinforce my teaching.

Kay is very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. She is very encouraging and never makes me feel dumb when I hit a sour note. (As a beginning beginner, that happens a lot!) I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time!

About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students.
I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument.
The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I l
ike to begin by letting the student lead.
In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

About Greg
I have been playing music for over 30 years, and have been teaching music for almost half of that time. I have performed and recorded throughout the Midwest in a variety of cover and original bands ranging in styles from metal, rock, to R&B/Jazz and Blues. I teach these styles as well.

The most important thing for me as a music instructor is to get to know the student. I then tailor the lesson in a way that will resonate with the personality of the student. Finding the right balance of technique, theory, and fun, my goal is to have the student leave the lesson eager to go home, practice and come back for more. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

I took lessons from Greg when I was much younger say 12-13 for a year or more. He taught me a lot and had me playing guitar really fast, I always tried to do what he asked and he never ever got frustrated if I did it wrong or couldn't play what we were learning right away correctly!. Also all of what he taught me stayed in my head all these years some how and I kinda progressively got better and better!. I'm pretty happy with my playing and a lot of others are to!. Greg has something special about his students and teaching them to play the guitar correctly no matter what or how long it takes, he cares about you as a student. You get out what you put in ,but be patient cause it also takes time. But you'll see the difference later down the road that Greg was the right teacher for learning to play and the theory behind the guitar.....I recommend him as a great guitar teacher!. I myself take lessons from him again at the age of 38 , I was able to find him on Facebook after all these years and we do lessons via Skype, I'm a very happy student, very happy!. And I thank Greg Gladman for that!.

About Jake
I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at
it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.

About Brendan
I excel at the process of teaching and guiding students to get results. I know how to relate to students in different ways to help them understand problems and find solutions. I understand how frustrating and mentally exhausting practicing can be, and I know what to teach and when to teach it. I also understand that every student fits music into their life in a different way.

When studying with me a student can expect to be shown best practices in technique and musicianship, patient answers to questions, and to have time to absorb new information. Students will never be condescended to or belittled. Music is about adding joy to your life, and I can help.

I have studied nearly every style of music from medieval chant to Indian classical music. For over twenty years I have taught students in guitar, songwriting, classical composition,
music theory, and applied musicianship at all levels from beginners to graduate courses and students.

Hello there, my name is Ben Lokuta, and I have been playing drums for 13 years. I am several bands, including the two time winner of Rockonsin, Distant Cuzins. We were also the 2017 MAMA youth band of the year. I was also the 2017 MAMA youth drummer of the year. We have been a group for seven years and have played everywhere from dive bars to opening for Kansas at Milwaukee SummerFest. In addition, I have played with the Clyde Stubblefield All Star Band, now known as the Funky JBeez, for the last four years, and I got be Clyde Stubblefield's drum tech a couple of times before he passed away. Clyde helped shape many styles of music including funk, soul, hip hop, and ultimately rap as we know it today. I am truly honored to have known him. I have attended McNally Smith College of music for one semester until they closed, and I will be atten
ding Belmont University in the fall of 2019. I have learned a lot along the way, but I have also learned what teaching styles I like and I feel I know how to explain difficult concepts in a way that can make sense to anyone. I can teach technique, orchestration around the drum kit, musicality on the kit, as well as a general approach in styles ranging from swing to rock to latin. I hope I can use my knowledge and experience to help you get where you want to be.

About Mark
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! I’ll begin with a short statement about myself so you have an idea who you may be working with. I picked up the bass guitar shortly after falling in love with music when I was nine years old. I was inspired by my music teachers while they taught me the ropes and basics of classical music, but I always found that the electric bass was my passion and I pursued genres such as rock and funk during my leisure time. When it was time to attend college for music education, I returned to the upright bass for my education and studied under NEA’s Jazz Master recipient Richard Davis during the last years preceding his retirement (if you don’t know who Richard is, do yourself a favor and look him up! He’s played with legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Bruce Springsteen, plus he’s been an inspiration for cou
ntless other bassists including Verdine White from Earth, Wind, and Fire). I was hired immediately out of college after earning my bachelors in music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I enjoyed an early successful music career teaching general music to K-5th graders, and strings/orchestra to 5th-8th graders. My teaching career in Madison was short-lived as my fiancee was attending graduate school for clinical psychology at Indiana State University and I moved down to Indiana to start my life with her. Our path took an unexpected and stressful turn when my fiancee was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and a large portion of my efforts have been directed towards addressing her needs. In order to keep a flexible schedule where I can be available to assist her at home, I decided that teaching private lessons was the best option.

I knew I needed to solidify my musical knowledge and skills to consider myself a progressive one-on-one teacher to motivate and guide my students with precision. Following my fiancee's diagnosis of fibromyalgia and the sudden hiccup in my career after moving away from my orchestra teaching job in Madison, I had to act fast if I were to support both of us through my music. I began my rapid progression of improvement by first studying the psychology of learning. While I found several books in addition to my notes from my education classes at the University, I'm forever grateful for my fiancee who answers all my psychology-related questions despite her busy schedule. Once I had a firm grasp of how someone can sharpen and hone their mind to efficiently learn new concepts and build upon growing knowledge, I put the psychology of learning to the test in my own music practice. Although I’ve been an active musician and bass player for fifteen years, I’ve seen more growth in my bass playing in the past year than during my five years studying bass at the University.

Now, here’s where YOU fit in! I remember being very proud of the fact that I was “self-taught” in my younger years; however, I now realize how much time was wasted by teaching myself inefficient techniques and mediocre practice habits. Drawing upon my experiences from the UW-Madison School of Music, countless gigs, and my research digging into the psychology of learning, I’m here to help you progress efficiently.

I'll leave you with a cliche, yet sincere question: how long are you willing to wait to become the bassist you want to be? Thanks for your interest, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Can Anyone Learn to Sing? Five Steps to Instantly Improve
Can anyone learn to sing? You might be thinking “no," especially if you’ve seen episodes of American Idol where singer after singer mumbles in a tuneless monotone, or wails off key with a lot of confidence, but little ability. You may have sung in a choir, or even attempted singing lessons, but became frustrated as you quickly found that your voice didn’t match up to your expectations. What is a Lute, and How is it Different From the Guitar?
As a guitar player, I rarely had to deal with the issue of explaining what my instrument was to people I met. Even non-musicians are generally familiar with the guitar and the many forms and shapes it takes. When I made the transition to playing the lute, however, this changed significantly, due in no small part to the odd-looking case that I have to carry the instrument around in. People will often ask me, “What is a lute?” In truth, the history of the lute is a long one and I often simpl
