About Yana
My teaching experience includes students between the ages of 8 and 70. I believe in the individual approach and decide what music books and methods to use and recommend after the first few lessons with the student. Everyone learns differently!
Flute lessons can be fun, educational and helpfull. Playing the flute is a great skill that lets you appreciate and express music. It also enhances your capability to focus and the quickness of your mind since you think of a few different things simultaneously when playing the instrument. And the fun part - well you can play your favorite song, compose something yourself or have fun playing duets with me or fellow flute students.

Yana is a superb instructor. She promptly identified my strong points and let me know those areas that needed improvement. She is patient, yet she keeps the student moving along to the next goal. I look forward to my next lesson.

As a retiree who has recently returned to piano after a decades-long hiatus, I knew I’d need a teacher with experience teaching adults. Semyon is proving to be excellent. He is a skilled musician and teacher whose approach combines enjoyable piano pieces, exercises for agility and the fundamentals of scales and theory. He is patient and responsive to what I want to accomplish. I have learned in each lesson, seen improvement each week, and enjoy the diversity of assignments. In short, i’m having a grand time and highly recommend him.

Patient and passionate

My 7-year-old daughter has been taking weekly lessons with Elena for a few months. It's her/our first piano teacher, so I don't have much basis for comparison, but we, and our daughter are very happy. Elena has a patient, gentle and genuine manner. She is very focused and attentive in her attention to the student, and my daughter seems to be learning quickly and looks forward to class. We're glad we found her.

About Allison
Hi there! My name is Allison and I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools! I teach elementary general music to students in grades K-6 at a Title 1 elementary school that is also a Level IV AAP Center. I have a diverse group of students who speak many languages and come from many socio-economic backgrounds. I enjoy getting to know my students and learning what they love and how to adapt my teaching to their needs! Before I came to Fairfax County I taught Pre-K in the Richmond metro area for a year. I also come from a large family-I have 5 younger siblings! One of my siblings has high-functioning autism, so I have a special place in my heart for students like my brother! I have taken piano lessons since I was 8 years old and studied piano in college. I attended James Madison University and graduated with a
degree in Vocal Music Education (K-12). I am certified in the state of Virginia in both vocal and instrumental music education for grades K-12. Some of my favorite composers include Bach, Mozart, and Yiruma. I enjoy listening to all genres of music, as well. I also speak Spanish and some conversational Korean. My hobbies include taekwondo, swimming, and reading. I also am of the Christian faith and am involved in my church. (Note: I do not incorporate my faith into my teaching unless a student or student's parent requests it.) I like to use the Alfred's Basic Piano Series, but if a student has started another series, I will be happy to continue with that series.

About Melissa
I began playing violin in elementary school, and immediately knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My first words as a baby were lyrics because I sang before I spoke. I played violin until 11th grade when I fell in love with the sound of the viola.
I studied music performance and music education in college and I have a bachelors degree in both. I have played professionally in orchestras, quartets, as a soloist, and in many rock and folk settings. I have even put my violin and viola through a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal in heavy metal/punk music. I have over 17 years of teaching experience and am a licensed teacher in the state of virginia. I have taught in a classroom as well as privately, and have also taught students with autism.
As a student of mine you can expect to improve your playing skills week
to week. I can teach from the very first lesson on. Students will learn techniques to improve their playing and will play fun music. If you are interested in learning improvisation, I can help with that, too. I enjoy teaching violin, viola and cello.
I am most passionate about teaching students to become independent, critical thinking musicians who will be able to rely on their own knowledge to learn new music as they go along. I stress music reading, ear training, and strong fundamentals in playing. I am very encouraging, love spreading my love of music.

About Gregory
I'm the trumpet player, songwriter, and backup singer for Philadelphia based funk band, Swift Technique. The band has been my pride and passion for the last 11 years. I recently moved to Washington DC from Philly, but am still active with the band. I'm hoping to impact the local music scene here and learn new things from new musicians and students.

I graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance, with a minor in education. I've been teaching privately since 2011 and have been a successful touring musician since 2008. My band has performed all over the country with highly acclaimed acts like: Vulfpeck, Snarky Puppy, The Meters, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Charles Bradley, Soulive, and Lettuce just to name a few.

My teaching philosophy centers around making music, backed by a
solid foundation in fundamental technique. Creating good habits early on will ensure the ability to express yourself in any way you choose later. I also take time in lessons to focus on music theory, ear training, and general musicianship. While these might not relate directly to playing the trumpet, they go a long way to making you a well-rounded musician. I teach all styles of music including: jazz, classical, funk, blues, soul, salsa, rock, and ska.

I get great joy and fulfillment from performing and playing and I hope to pass that feeling along to my students!
