I can teach beginning guitar students how to play their favorite songs. Also, how to read tabs and chord charts. Advanced students can learn theory and jazz improvisation. I can help students who have been using a capo learn how to play bar chords so you will no longer need a capo.
Guitar students should be at least nine years old.
I do not teach finger picking style.

My daughter wanted some exposure to the instrument so she could continue with it on the side as she has a primary instrument already. John did a great job or arming her with the requisite knowledge to understand how to play. I would recommend him.

Cant say enough good things about Joel. He doesnt get frustrated when I don't grasp a concept he breaks it down to where I can understand and work through it. Works to play what I'm interested and what I really want to play. I thought going to learn an instrument at 27 would be rough but it has been fun and enjoyable.

Joel is an amazing instructor. I have had music instructors that get frustrated and roll their eyes or scoff. Not once have I gotten that from Joel. He breaks it down to where it is completely understandable and willing to work at your speed. I especially like that he isn't hung up on boring songs he pushes for what the student is interested in. Makes learning so much more fun. I thought trying to learn an instrument at 27 would make me feel dumb but Joel doesnt create that kind of environment. Only good vibes. Cant say enough good things about Joel.

From day one, Cassie has not only been enthusiastic about music, but also about creating a relationship with my daughter. I can visibly see progress in my daughter's understanding of rhythm in what we listen to and she loves to create games around the subject. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Cassie.

"My son learned a tremendous amount from lessons with Steve

My son took lessons from Steve, in an Aurora music store, for almost four years before Steve left that establishment. Steve had my 8 year old playing on a drum kit within 3 months of beginning lessons (which may not be typical) but it furthered my son's drive to improve. My son was in a band by the age of 10, which produced their own CD and garnered many accolades at local competitions (winning just about every one they entered) and performed at local venues, including our town's summer festival for four years in a row (for which they were paid to perform). I believe that every successful band has a great drummer keeping time. As the rest of the band aged into college, my son continues to play the drum on snare line in marching band at his high school, a position which he earned as a Freshman (which is not typical), but which, we believe, the skill set he learned from lessons with Steve afforded him. He also entered high school in the Symphonic Band (mid level band) as a Freshman and was moved to the Wind Ensemble (top level band) as a Sophomore. Steve worked with him in several aspects of drumming, from rudiments, to school work (middle school jazz band) and pop music, on the drum kit. Steve is serious about teaching and expects students to practice and come prepared to their lessons. Practice is the only thing that makes them improve! If your child is (or you are) serious about learning to play the drums, Steve would be a great teacher to have."

"I had been playing the violin for years but had gone on a long hiatus before I began taking lessons with Evan. I decided I wanted to take up the violin again, for pleasure, and he went above and beyond to ensure that I really got everything out of my lessons as possible, while making sure I had fun. He retrained me on a lot of fundamental work I'd lost and/or resisted as a child/teenager (I never thought I'd actually like playing etudes!) and he also drilled other beginner- to advanced-level skills into my playing. I will forever appreciate how he did this with a positive approach (non-confrontational, while professional), because he really improved my skills beyond what they had been even when I was playing professionally and competitively, years ago. Evan developed a great curriculum that was very well-personalized; he made me look forward to lessons (and he actually made me enjoy practicing!); and, most of all, he helped me appreciate the violin in a much more profound sense than ever before. Also, let me mention that he is talented and skilled beyond comprehension, so he's about as highly qualified as they come. I encourage you to take a few lessons with Evan and see how quickly you'll develop in his capable hands."

"Joe was able to work with my daughter to approach some very complex material (using Abelton live to live loop and edit her songs) at a pace and with a vocabulary and tone that completely defused an otherwise intimidating situation. His calm, steady manner spiced with just the right touch of dry wit and his keen ear for a mean beat kept the lessons fun and very productive. Joey's not just a fantastic and unique musician and teacher, however, he's a great person and a fantastic influence to have in your life."

"Jameson has been patient with me in the few lessons I've had with him so far.
He's very knowledgeable and understanding, so I felt no need to be ashamed when I make mistakes or sometimes sound funny. It helps that he's friendly and approachable.

The lessons are purposeful and insightful. I like how he allows me to ask questions and he helps me understand mechanics that I've never learned before.

I've sung in a few church choirs for many years on and off without any vocal training. I've only ever sung for just the love of singing, so I've collected some bad habits that were never addressed until now. It didn't take long for him to develop a gameplan for me and figure out how he's gonna get me right on track.

Today he helped me "find my voice". It was a Eureka moment of sorts I won't soon forget. There's still work to be done, but surely I will
continue with my lessons with him because I'd like to see where he can help me take my voice.

Definitely top-notch instruction from a pro here, so for me, it's money well-spent."

"Customized instructions, to the point, and excellent listener

I am a beginning student with no singing experience. JoAnn has been my instructor for the past several months. What I like about JoAnn is her attention to detail. She believes, for example, in starting with a strong foundation to build your singing voice on such as having proper breathing and relaxation techniques. More importantly, she is upfront about the importance of practice. This is the only way to get better. Thank you, JoAnn, for your encouragement and patience."
