First and foremost I want any potential student to know that I thoroughly en
joy teaching and want to help you explore your hidden talents and reach your fullest potential. With that in mind, the learning environment in my studio is relaxed and fun. I never condescend or put pressure on a student who makes mistakes. I encourage students to try new techniques and make mistakes along the way. I also work very closely with my students to achieve their own personal goals. I know that there are many different types of learners who all have different aspirations and I feel it is my job to ensure that my students are satisfied with their progress. I understand that someone hoping to attend a conservatory will have different needs than a small child. I promise to give nothing less than the highest quality teaching in an environment conducive to learning.

For piano students, I will spend much time on proper technique and making sure the student does not compromise the wrist, fingers, arms, or back which may create discomfort later. In the first 3-6 months a student can expect to learn technique, repertoire, and basic musicianship skills such as sight reading and transposition.

Composition/ Songwriting students will be coached according to what their specific goals and interests are. I incorporate the technical aspects of writing music along with music business which will help students get their music played and recorded.

Music theory students will practice skills such as four part writing, melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation, modulation, roman numeral analysis, sight singing, and score analysis.

I do encourage the use of specific curricula but I am always willing to explore something new if you have a preference or have found success with something else. I hope that music will give my students lifelong enjoyment and I encourage you to come make music with me.

My daughter recently started taking Piano lessons with Mr.Dan. During the first class, Mr.Dan analyzed her level of expertise and interests in music to understand where she stands. Based on that, he suggested a plan for her to learn further. It works well and she is all excited now. We look forward to many future lessons. We highly recommend him.

About Denise
I was educated on organ and classical piano as a child through late teenage years, playing and winning competitions regularly. I received a B.S. Mechanical Engineering and worked in the corporate world as design engineer and software sales manager. Later as an entrepreneur, I created and ran a design and retail business.

My interest in classical music performance renewed as a mid-life adult. During the past five years I have been trained by a highly respected performance and pedagogical leader and attended summer workshops where I received private training by a Juilliard graduate and concert pianist. I also have acquired an in-depth knowledge of college level theory through private tutoring.

I have attended many educational conferences, seminars, and master classes and participate regularly in recitals. I currently work as a substi
tute church pianist.

My life experiences have given me the ability to communicate well with various types of people and styles of learners. I do not utilize only one method series as I structure my curriculum to the individualized needs of each of my students. It is my goal to not only teach the proper technique and repertoire of the piano but to bring the peace and joy of music learning and playing to my adult students.

About Rosanna
At a young age, I began performing in musical theater productions with the Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh at the Benedum and Byham Theaters. Throughout high school, I continued performing in school and community theater musical productions. In college I was the lead vocalist in the jazz band, historian of the choir, and led an all female acapella group. During this time, I also discovered a love for writing original music and formed an acoustic duo called Scott and Rosanna. I graduated from college in December 2013 with an art education degree.

I began teaching private voice lessons during my senior year in college in 2012, and absolutely love the honor of empowering young, aspiring singers to be the best vocalists they can be. I focus on creating engaging, student-based lessons catered to each individual's goals. My experience tea
ching in a classroom setting has given me the experience and ability to understand how to scaffold lessons and track progress. Many people have a misconception that a good singing voice is either something 'you have or you don't', but I don't believe that's true! It just takes practice and an open mind!

So whether you are preparing for an audition, looking to improve your vocal technique, or searching for a fun outlet, I would love to work with you!

About Peter
Hi! My name is Peter, and I'm a young musician living in Southside, Pittsburgh. I attended college at Georgetown University, where I studied Music along with Mathematics. My focus within music while at school was in Classical theory and composition, but I'm really into jazz, rock and roll, and the blues. I currently have a daytime job, but in my spare time I write, record, and perform music as often as possible.

I've been a guitarist for about 11 years now, and mostly teach beginner to intermediate students. If you're just picking up the instrument, or have learned on and off for some time, then we would probably be a great match. I focus on teaching the basics of music as they relate to guitar, in order to establish good fundamentals and habits. I encourage students to write their own music while learning some of their favorite songs.
If you'd like to pursue lessons with me, please contact me using the information provided. I look forward to hearing from you!

About Lisa C.
After playing the violin for over 20 years, Lisa was inspired to share the gift of music with others by her teacher, Susanna Sonnenberg. Lisa is a member of the American String Teacher’s Association, and has attended the 2017 ASTA National Conference. She currently performs with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra. Lisa has played in recitals, the Chartiers Valley High School Orchestra, and was accepted to the 2006 PMEA District Orchestra. She has studied with Larry Weiss, Linda Andersen, and others. Lisa can’t remember a time before she learned how to play the violin; it has brought her great joy. Her favorite piece to play is the Bach Double Concerto in D Minor.

At 8 years old, Lisa fell in love with the violin. Throughout school, she studied with private teachers and played with the school orchestra. At home, her dogs were a great audie
nce.

Lisa went on to study history at the University of Pittsburgh, and later earned her law degree from Duquesne. She never forgot her violin, though, and continued to play in her spare time.

Music adds beauty to the world, and finally, after years of keeping the violin to herself, Lisa decided to share her playing with others. Lisa teaches traditional, classical method. The method books she uses include: Essential Elements for Strings, Samuel Applebaum, and All for Strings, among others. She supplements the technical exercises with repertoire from the Suzuki series. Lisa enjoys playing all types of music, in addition to classical, and teaches these songs, as well. Additional music includes pop artists like Taylor Swift, classic rock, electronic music like Lindsey Stirling, celtic, folk, and just about any other type of music you can think of. As a teacher, Lisa strives to be positive and encouraging. She believes that music should be fun, so her main goal is to make sure her students are having a good time!

This PA State Certified Music Educator wants to help you find and use your “voice” and - better yet - to understand what you want to say and how to say it!

Music has been an integral part of my story for a long while: from my toddler years, dragging around a cassette-tape player cued up with Mozart; to my grade and high school years in concert and marching bands; to my angsty young-adult years - when I bought my first guitar - as a garage band rocker; to my college years as a classical and jazz saxophonist; to my post-college years as a singer/song-writer; to now.

Whew! The point is...I've stepped into and worn out a lot of different shoes as a musician, and I'm not yet ready to kick off my socks and stop walking. Let my callous feet guide you on your own journey with music!
