I have been teaching piano almost as long as I have been performing, coming up on 10 years. I started teaching beginners when I was just a teenager, and as I learned more about pedagogy and about piano myself, I branched into teaching more advanced students. To date, I have taught lessons to over 100 different students ranging in age from 5 to 70, and ranging in skill from complete beginner to college piano performance major.
Not every student is going to think I’m the best fit for them. I expect consistent practice, completion of assignments, and attention to detail in music. I have had many trial lessons that don’t pan out because the student or parent thinks my expectations are too high for them. Make no mistake; I expect a lot, but I also care deeply about music and have great understanding and sympathy for those who genuinely try. Whether your goal is to learn to read music, improve rhythm, learn to play the great classical repertoire, or simply have a good time learning the ...

I have decades of experience working with students of all ages and levels and I often prepare students for recitals and NYSMMA competitions. I do not use a cookie-cutter method for instruction. Lessons are tailored to meet the specific needs of each student and taught in a comfortable and friendly teaching environment.
I specialize in teaching:

Classical approach to singing all genres! Instruction is focused on building your technique of posture, breathing, resonance, vowel clarity, and tension-free singing. Along with technique we work on finding your own style, your true voice, understanding musicality, stage presence, and getting over performance freight (I have great tools to help out with this!) I want to make sure you feel confident singing in front of audiences and vocally healthy to do it for the long run.

Hi, my name is Tanya and I have been teaching piano lessons since I was just 16 years old! What started as a fun activity during my childhood, turned into a lifelong passion.
I love teaching kids of all ages and figuring out different ways to make the lessons fun and enjoyable.
I was lucky enough to grow up with a mother who taught violin lessons all of her life. Watching her teach has been very educational and inspiring.
So excited to work with you or your kids!

I never really considered myself a singer, and resolved to be an actor who "can sing a little bit". I started to study voice only to broaden that horizon however far it would go, but I wasn't expecting much. Only to, perhaps, stop being nervous or to stop seizing up at the idea of singing in front of people. But...
Fawn doesn't mess around. She likes to move fast, and so do I.
There is no ego in working with her. She's supportive, encouraging, and deftly knowledgable. Her ability to troubleshoot is a big part of how quickly my voice is improving. She fixed my breathing in the FIRST lesson, by the third lesson we started working on pitch (my biggest shortcoming), and while I can't say I'm there yet, I am already lightyears from where I was two months ago.
She eliminates a lot of the mystery that surrounds singing, stuff I was never quite sure about despite the fact that I had a voice teacher for three years prior to moving to Los Angeles. IE: Where should I feel the resonance? Where should I NOT feel the resonance? What direction should the energy go? Etc..
It's only been a short while, but I believe I'm on my way to actually calling myself a confident, skilled singer."
