About Melissa
My name is Melissa L. and I am currently employed by the West Chester School District as a strings teacher. I have acquired a degree in Music Education with a concentration in violin from the University of Delaware. I have been playing the violin for 21 years and also have been giving private violin lessons for the last 10 years. Although my main concentration is focused on the violin, I also provide private lessons for viola, cello, string bass, and piano.

As an educator, I strive to provide students with the knowledge to become highly skilled and competent musicians. Whether music becomes a hobby or profession, I want my students to appreciate and engage in their learning as aspiring musicians. Music has made such a positive impact on my life, and I hope to inspire my students to love the music that they play. The many years that I
have played the violin along with my 9 years of private teaching has given me knowledge of effective techniques to incorporate in my teaching. I hope to be a positive and encouraging role model while engaging my students to their fullest potential as musicians!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am capable of teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced students for the violin. As for the viola, cello, string bass, and piano, I offer lessons for beginner and intermediate students.

For beginner string students, I start with focusing on the Suzuki Method, along with material from the Sound Innovation series. Beginner piano students will focus on repertoire from Alfred's Basic Piano Library. Further repertoire will vary for intermediate and advanced musicians.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Currently, I am offering both in home lessons but would also be able to travel to lessons for an additional travel fee. I expect my students to provide their own instruments and books. For in home lessons, I will provide a music stand. I expect students to have a music stand for their lessons and individual practice time as well.

For beginner students, I will provide a variety of suggestions when purchasing instruments. There will also be a list of repertoire provided for all levels. Please contact me if you have any additional questions, thank you!

My name is Julie, and Melissa taught me how to play the violin. She was recommended to me by a friend who has piano lessons with her.

She is a great instructor and explains concepts very well. I recommend her to anyone young or old, skilled or unskilled. She is patient yet demanding, in a way that makes you want to work/play harder as she strives to teach what she can to her students.

Whether it's your first time playing the violin or wanting to improve, she herself is an amazing violinist that will help and guide you every step of the way. Regardless of what instrument you wish to play/learn, I have no doubt that she will help you excel with her teaching abilities. 10/10.

As a beginner in learning to play the cello and read music.I have learned a great deal through my weekly lessons with Melissa. Every lesson includes presentation of a new skill and a review of previously taught concepts. Melissa effectively provides me feedback about my performance and methods to correct errors. She maintains a high level of rigor and expectation to every lesson. Melissa presents as a very professional instructor with a strong work ethic and dedication to her field.

I had my doubts at first of taking a class online, because I am not an easy student, my body awareness is not very good, but Corbin is such a great teacher and he knows very well what he is doing, so I was pleasantly surprised with the results. He is patient, encouraging and to the point. Highly recommended.

Corbin was fantastic!! He really knows his stuff. I came to him with a few things to work on and he identified them without me telling him. He also picked up on several other items that we addressed. He had some great techniques to help me identify what I could do better and then had the suggestions for improvement. I am looking forward to working with Corbin again. Excellent experience.

About Vince
“Basically he’s the go-to cross-genre horn-blowing utility man of the Philly scene” (John Vettese). Vince Tampio is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Philadelphia, PA. Although firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince’s most recent solo album Live at PafA (2017) “is a contemporary instance of fusion done right,” and whose “nontraditional instrumentation maintains a spacious environment that proves ideal for a set brimming with imaginative, drawn-out improvisation” (Matthew Aquiline). This project was recorded as part of HotHouse at PafA After Dark: a concert series of the Philadelphia Jazz Project. Live at PafA was preceded by Syzygy (2014) and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self prod
ucing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in The Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on more than 25 albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, the Cat’s Pajamas, and You Do You. He is a founding member of the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. Vince also writes and arranges for the Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Matt Gallagher, Craig Morris, Claudio Roditi, Malcolm McNab, Scott Holbert, Jeffrey Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.

Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. He currently teaches a number of electric bass students at Philadelphia's Rock to the Future. Vince privately teaches trumpet, electric bass guitar, ear training, music theory, improvisation, arrangement, and composition to students of all ages and levels.

Each student approaches music differently, and Vince tailors his teaching to fit that approach. He asks a student what they're aiming to accomplish, then set short and long term goals in order to achieve them. Vince believes a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. His students receive a wholistic approach to music on whatever instrument of their choice.

Fast becoming a sought after trumpeter and arranger, Vince continually pursues work performing, arranging, composing, teaching and recording original music.

Quotes:

"Vince Tampio proves himself a very creative composer. I look forward to hearing more from this upcoming composer & instrumentalist." (Fred "Rock Steady Freddie" Reiter)

"Vince plays his horn with creative passion and soul, his tone is very open and full these two combined make him one of the leading up and coming young jazz trumpet players of today." (Rebecca Coupe Franks)

"I've had the great pleasure of working with Vince as an arranger and writer. His music explores many styles and directions, and is always well crafted. He has an original and distinctive voice as a player, an arranger, and a writer. Such dedicated talent deserves to be heard, and I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from Vince in the future." (Vinnie Martucci)

I am a graduate of Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance as well as the Royal Academy of Music in London where I attained my BM in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and my MMus in Piano Performance, respectively. I am an active performer as well as a keen and engaging teacher, so I'm always thinking of new ways to get students thinking about being performing artists, whether they're well into their studies or just starting out. I'm interested in the student's perspective - what kind(s) of music do you enjoy? How can we work out an approach that will be as productive as possible for you? I'm a firm believer that every student is unique and has something special of their own to offer. The piano is a wonderful vehicle for expression, and my job is to help you find your voice.

About Bronwyn
I'm an avid violinist and pianist. I graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in May 2017 with a degree in Violin Performance and minors in Music History and Piano Pedagogy.

I love sharing my music with others and believe teaching is one of the best ways of doing that. My lessons are built around the unique interests of each student so that they feel positive about what they're learning and their progress.

I believe that much time is wasted by practicing inefficiently so I spend time each lesson discussing not only how to fix the problems students encounter, but how to practice more effectively. I like to challenge each student to approach music as an artist approaches a painting. Skill and technique are as equally important as telling (or painting) a story with each new song!
