Private Singing Teacher

I have been teaching private lessons now for over two years. I specialize in teaching children and teens and am a student favorite at Take Lessons with a collection of wonderful reviews from students and their parents. I am a very thorough and patient teacher. However, I expect a MINIMUM of three days a week of practice from all of my students at a length of time equal to lesson length. Without adequate practice, the student cannot flourish in fine-tuning their skills and could ultimately end up disappointed. This is completely avoidable with diligent practice.
For my younger students (ages 6-11) I utilize the Little Singers series of text written by Gregory Blankenbehler. For ages 12 and up, I utilize The Contemporary Singer: Elements of Vocal Technique written by Anne Peckham, one of my most influential Berklee professors. In addition to these texts I incorporate the use of the Vaccai: the Practical Method of Italian Singing as well as many various traditional, jazz, pop, and r&b ...

Words will never be enough to express what Danielle has done for my daughter and her love of singing. Danielle has shown so much patience and commitment through her instruction and has boosted my daughters confidence 110%. She knows how to chose the perfect song for Alexis' voice and the emails that she sends after each session provide the proper tools for my daughter to carry out her 1 hour session to a full week. I could not have picked a better vocal coach for my daughter.

My name is Walter! I'm a lifelong musician, and hold an Associate's Degree in Music from Sierra Community College in California, a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Sacramento State University in California, and a Master's Degree in Music from Northwestern University. I spent a summer studying music in Italy, and am an alumnus of the Aspen and Tanglewood Music Festival training programs. As a performer, I have spent 21+ years performing as a pianist, 12+ as a violinist, 10+ as a conductor, and 8+ as a classical singer.

I have spent 10+ years working as a teacher in both private and classroom situations, including over 6 years teaching at the college level. I've worked with students of all ages and all skill levels, and from all walks of life. I believe music is universally accessible, and that anyone can learn to play an instrument or to sing. I love helping students find confidence and proficiency in music, and helping people of all ages find their voice!

I have learned so much from Walter in the time that I have been working with him. His teaching style is grounded in proper vocal technique. I have taken voice lessons from many different teachers, and I have never had one who was able to provide such clear feedback and tangible suggestions on what I can do to improve my voice.

Walter is a rare combination -- an exceptional musician and an outstanding teacher. He is always positive, patient, and supportive while still offering helpful and specific instruction. I enjoy each and every lesson and always come away feeling I am progressing as well as having learned something new. Walter is truly outstanding: by far the best music teacher I have had.

Online Singing Teacher

I am a creative and innovative instructor who loves helping each student find their voice and pursue their unique interests musically.  I completed my Masters in Music at Northwestern University in 2015, where I sought to create and present exciting multimedia recitals that combined classical music with other art forms. I believe one of the most important things we can do as musicians is connect music to our larger experiences, and, in my lessons, I help students form a strong technical and theoretical foundation as well as connect to the deeper meanings and connections of songs. For the past 3 years, I have taught voice and piano lessons with Flatts and Sharpe Music Company in Chicago and have extensive experience teaching online lessons.

About Harrah

I earned her Master’s degree from Northwestern University where I appeared in numerous operas and premiered several works by contemporary composers. As the Assistant Artistic Director of the new music coalition, NONop, I searched for new and exciting multimedia performances practices and directed a

I am a classically trained singer, and I prioritize health above all else when teaching voice. As a soloist, I work with students to improve their abilities to sing confidently and technically efficient by themselves. I teach everything from standard operatic repertoire, musical theater (helping them get roles like Cinderella from "Into the Woods" and Gabriella from "High School Musical"), popular music, and much more. I love learning from my students and their interests.

About Madeline

Hello! I'm Madeline, and I'm a vocal director, vocal instructor, beginner-piano teacher, and music theory tutor. My daughter has taken lessons with Madeline through her school this past year and asked if she could continue with private lessons - we said an enthusiastic yes! The progress she has made in the last year is incredible and she has so much fun. Our son recently started lessons as well and we couldn't be more pleased. Madeline is a pleasure to work with and our children look forward to their weekly lessons. I highly recommend her.

I’m Jacob, a Juilliard-educated baritone singing and teaching around the world. I currently offer remote lessons from my home studio outside Washington, DC. I teach consistent, confident technique in any style—classical to contemporary—and welcome students of all skill levels and backgrounds. My only expectations are clear communication, dedication, and a commitment to vocal happiness and health.

I hold degrees in music from the Juilliard School (‘18) and Brown University (‘13). As a performer, I sang the 2019-20 season in Strasbourg, France, following my European début in Salzburg, Austria. I’ve sung in major houses including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, and the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse.

Jacob is a gifted teacher. While my voice was good before, Jacob's teaching made it superb. His insights on the anatomy of singing and sensitive corrections helped me shape my voice into a strong but nuanced instrument. His teaching style is good-humored and kind, never judgmental.
Reggie
Jacob is an all-around incredible voice teacher. He’s patient, prepared, and able to translate music and voice theory into accessible language for the novice (which was my case). As a working professional artist, he brought real-time experience into the lessons, and then enjoyed and learned so much from watching him maintain his craft while also teaching and coaching. It’s worth mentioning that Jacob is kind and funny. I highly recommend working with Jacob as a teacher and/or coach. My time spent with him was definitely worth the investment.
Gemma Wilson
Jacob is an excellent teacher. He opened my eyes to my ingrained bad habits, like tension, and we did a lot of helpful exercises to help remedy that. He's a very flexible teacher and open to suggestion; I wanted to sing more confidently in duets and he made that a part of our lessons. But for the lessons where I wasn't sure what I wanted, Jacob provided challenging exercises for me to attempt. I still use the valuable exercises that he taught me.

"Michelle Kei is a TREMENDOUS teacher! My wife found the perfect voice studio to help our daughter take it to the next level. Michelle's background/training is so impressive, and her instruction is CHALLENGING and FUN at the same time. Very frequent communication, which is great for all. Easily accessible materials, so convenient. Songs/repertoire tailored to our daughter's goals while also expanding horizons, best composers in Classical/Broadway/etc. Not to mention Michelle's contagious positive ENERGY. This past weekend was the Studio Recital, and it was so exciting to see our daughter and everybody else growing & succeeding as singers/artists. Outstanding teacher!"

"After looking for weeks for a vocal teacher, I came across Astrid here on TakeLessons and felt she might be a good person to try a few lessons with. I showed up the lesson to find out that she was the older sister of two of my good friends and to find out that she is the best vocal teacher I could have found! She's very patient, fun, talented, helpful, and silly, and she really makes learning to train my voice awesome! I take one 1/2 hour lesson usually once a week with her, and I've already completed two full songs with her in the few months I've been training with her!
Astrid is definitely someone I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a vocal coach, plus she has an awesome voice. Definitely going to continue lessons with her! :)"

7 Great Audition Songs for Sopranos

The best audition songs for sopranos help singers stand out from the crowd and be heard when auditioning. The perfect song should be reasonably challenging, in order to show off your abilities, and should also exemplify personality. This could mean singing something to which you feel you can relate. Ideally, you should be able to create a tone similar to the original but, above all, you must enjoy the song. Almost all pieces, provided they are in your range and you can sing them well, wor …
