I've been teaching singing and vocal performance for over four years. I utilize the Kodaly method for vocal performance, starting at the basic level of tonal scales (major, minor, harmonic, melodic, etc.) and Solfege application to serve as a foundational base; rhythm syllables such as "ta" and "doo". Additionally, foundational breath control is applied, as it is very important for the singer to learn how to control their breath and support their sound. From there, repertoire mimicry is applied, or what I call "phrase building," as it is important for any singer to be able to effectively create vocal phrases.

About Milton
Hey there, everyone!

My name is Milton Carl Jackson II and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area.

I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American & African Studies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a recently graduate of the University of Redlands with a Master's in Music Education, I hav
e come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and professionals. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.

If you're looking for a teacher who will motivate and inspire you not only to learn your instrument of choice, but also how to perform it (whether on the big stage or in your living room for the family) and record it as well, I'm the perfect teacher for you. Learning to sing, play, and act beautifully doesn't have to be difficult -- we'll work on finding your voice or your style, all while having fun along the way!

I teach in-studio, in-home, and online lessons, so we can be flexible with the lesson type and schedule!

This is a perfect chance for you or your child who can't stop singing around the house or has dreams of shredding on the guitar or twinkling on the ivories to learn the fundamentals of music, start something new that keeps them or you focused, and have fun while doing it!

Feel free to contact me at show contact info for any questions and check out my student reviews and qualifications.

I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you or your child on your musical journey!!

Finding your real voice, free vocalizing, harmony, blending, improve usable range, the mixed voice. The first steps to mastering vocal freedom are the building blocks for vocal success. Whether the student is a child or an adult, with little or no training, it is my goal to make singing an enjoyable and freeing experience. Singing with complete vocal freedom and confidence can seem very elusive. Surprisingly, it's not as elusive as one might think! The steps to vocal freedom are within reach and most students experience a measure of freedom within the first lessons. Using a systematic method incorporating learning technique and songs the student loves to sing makes learning more fun and gives the student a greater appreciation of music as a whole while encouraging a passion for music that lasts a lifetime.

About Cosima
My specialty is voice but I also teach acoustic guitar, ukulele and songwriting for the student who desires to develop their own style and create their own songs. Not only is it fun but the music education that comes with it is highly valuable for future musicians. (guitar and ukulele rentals available at an additional cost to the student)

For students who are just beginning their vocal journey or are busy performers who want to improve healthy technique and sing with more confidence; or perhaps a worship leader or backup singer is struggling with vocal strain, my goal is to help them find vocal freedom and maintain an amazing, healthy voice that will confidently meet their expectations, year after year, in every situation, every time.

As an active performing vocalist, musician, songwriter, and Christian worship artist and band lea
der, I understand the demands and challenges of a busy performance calendar, singing sets for back-to-back audiences day after day and week after week, and the need for a vocalist to find the vocal freedom that will produce confidence in their voice no matter what the venue.

Vocal freedom is within reach and most students experience a measure of it within the few first lessons, some even gaining a full octave in their range in their first lessons. Using a systematic method incorporating the study of good vocal technique and working on songs the student loves to sing makes learning more fun and gives the student a greater appreciation of music as a whole while encouraging a passion for music that lasts a lifetime. I encourage and teach sight reading, and theory basics especially for those students who are considering music as a profession.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each student learns with material that will be divided into step-by-step doable lessons so they can be sure to learn the best techniques and material along the way. Sheet music and lesson books are provided at a minimal additional cost.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My home-studio is bright and open and set up with an upright piano, full length mirror, music stand, iPad with appropriate applications, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and computer for recording and playback. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons or wait for their children in the adjacent room. I also may provide a follow-up email which includes any recordings and lesson notes from the current lesson.

As the student progresses I also provide a PA system to teach mic technique and build performance confidence.

I ask that students come prepared with the following items to their lessons.
~ Bottled water
~ A ring binder with paper for notes and a zippered pouch to keep tools and handouts.
~ A flash drive for recording transfers or they can use their phone or other recording device to record their lessons.
~

*** Specialties ***
I honestly love my students and love teaching! It's such a privilege to be a part of their musical journey. I specialize in church worship vocals, choir, a capella, show tunes and musical theater. I teach free, healthy vocal technique which enables each student to explore and focus on different styles of singing. I also love teaching young voices especially teens who want to have a good time learning to sing.

NOTE ~ My teaching style is more structured therefore some young children may not be ready to take lessons with me.

The voice is an instrument and, like any instrument, you need to understand how each part of your instrument works to create music. You also need to know the best way to take care of your instrument so that you don't permanently damage it.

I teach vocal techniques and exercises to help my students become a better singer. My students will learn how to use their diaphragm; how to use dynamics; how to project; how to build up their lung capacity; how to sing in a clear and articulate manner; how to sing various different types of music; how to control their voice; and how to develop their natural ear for music as well as showmanship.

About Tina
I started singing professionally at the age of fourteen. I have had leading roles in semi-professional theatre productions since I was seventeen. I have also been assistant director, musical director, choreographer, costumer and writer for many productions from West Side Story to My Fair Lady to Camelot. In the theatre I have worked with and trained children and adults of all ages. I have also conducted summer camps that were theatre workshops for children. I was a school teacher at a Charter school for eight years and I taught music and drama to children from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have been giving voice lessons for more than twenty years. I tailor my programs based on the needs of my students. I am passionate about music and I love being able to share that with other individuals who are passionate about music. I have wor
ked with children and adults who told me "I cannot sing" and have shown them that, once you understand how your voice works, you can do things you never dreamed you could do. I will work hard to help anyone who has the love and determination to sing to improve and become a better singer.

Students I have worked with have won competitions and even been accepted into the AMDA in New York.

*** Lesson Details ***
The voice is an instrument and, like any instrument, you have to know all of its parts and how it works in order to get the most out of it. I teach my students how to properly use their voice without damaging their vocal chords. My style and technique has been developed over many years of practical experience and learning from instructors and entertainers who work in the entertainment industry. My method of teaching is entirely my own and I have had a lot of success with it. I expect my students to work hard and be dedicated but I try to make the lessons not just instructional but fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home-lessons taught in a designated music room, has an electric weighted keyboard and a karaoke machine.

I have recording capabilities that allow me to record my students and blend their voices with the background tracks that we work with. Once a song has been mastered, I record the song and email it to you so you can have it to enjoy and share with family and friends.

*** Specialties ***
I teach my students breathing techniques; how to use the diaphragm and relax the vocal chords; how to project; how to properly enunciate; how to perform a song instead of just singing it; showmanship; how to select the music that is right for them. The voice is an instrument and, like any instrument, you have to fully understand it and its different parts in order to get the most out of it.

In regards to the various hand-crafting arts that I teach. I have been hand-crafting for more than forty years. I first discovered my love for creating things when I was only six years old, which is when I first began to learn embroidery. That just made me want to learn even more and I am always looking for some new and interesting art to learn and master. I have been a costumer for more than thirty years, creating costumes for community theatre and making period costumes for events such as the Renaissance Faire and Civil and Revolutionary War Re-enactments.

One of my new passions is Recycled Crafts. Taking items that you might throw away and turning them into something useful. For example, I had a pile of sheets that we didn't use any longer. Instead of throwing them away, I made them into rag rugs. Another of my favorite recycle crafts is taking the plastic bags that you get your groceries in and making them into re-usable totes that are washable.

Needle tatting is a form of lace making. Taking string and creating some beautiful lace that allows you to add old world charm to a garment or project. One of the things that I like about this hand-craft is being able to easily take it with me (to doctor's appointments for example) so that I can have something to do while I wait.

As you can probably tell, these are things that I am passionate about and I love teaching them to anyone who wants to learn.

Tina gives very clear, precise instruction with modeling and practice. She lets you know what your goals are and how you are going to work toward them, and follows up the lesson with a written recap of everything you went over. The only thing that I am sorry about is that I did not record everything we practiced. She was more than happy to let me record whatever I needed, but I only recorded one thing and I already forgot the other two things! Anyway, I am happy with the instruction. :)

As a professional musician, I'm lucky to be performing with many of Southern California's top professional lead vocalists, and background vocalists. A few years ago I was privileged to study with one that taught me the most amazing vocal method. It really impressed me and completely transformed me. It elevated my skill level, and really made me wish that I had been taught the method when I was a young student. I'm now inspired to pass the method along to anyone, young or old that has an interest in learning to sing well.

About Kris
Kris B has a Bachelors degree in Music from California State
University Northridge, and has worked professionally in a variety
of styles including jazz, Latin, rock, funk, r&b, and classical. He has gotten to work with many of the finest musicians in Southern California, and has teamed up to perform clinic/performances with musicians such as Luis Conte, Richie Gagate Garcia, Taku Hirano, and Roland Gajate Garcia. He’s also performed clinics with Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s great bassist, Tony Franklin,  who was with The Firm, as well as Richard Fortus, guitarist with Guns N’ Roses.
Kris is also very happy to have gigged with many world class musicians including Michito Sanchez, Kevin Ricard, Clare Fischer, Otmaro Ruiz, Smokey Robinson, Teena Marie, Denice Williams, Stu Goldberg, Art Davis, Doc Severenson, Tim Bogert, Rique Pantoja,
Derron Johnson, Doug Lunn, Ron Stout, Rob Whitlock, John Pisano, Fred Katz, Gloria Gaynor, Jeff Kashiwa, Vinnie Falcone, Massamba Diop, Casio Duarte, and Dylan Wilson, among many others. Kris has been hired for many different types of gigs including a variety show where he had the pleasure of performing with the host, actor/comedian Jason Alexander. He currently plays regularly with  John Heussenstamm from The Surf Punks, which is a burning trio that includes Baba Elephante.
Kris has a mastery and expertise on his instrument that stems from his vast amount of experience. It enables him to enlighten students with instruction that can encompass many styles of music. Because he has great depth and wisdom, a student having difficulty with any aspect of their playing can consult with him, and Kris will instantly produce a methodic strategy to get the student on their way to solving the issues, allowing them to continue to evolve. Kris was on the faculty at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood from 2001 to 2013. There he taught the double bass drumming class, the odd meters class, afro-cuban drumming class, caribbean drumming class, jazz drums class, rhythm section workshops, live playing workshops, applying technique to the drum set class, music reading 1,2,& 3, fill fest (drum fills class), funk, r&b, and hip-hop classes, as well as open counseling, and private instruction.
Kris has studied privately with: Luis Conte, Peter Erskine, Jeff Hamilton , Joey Heredia, Jimmy Branly, Gerry Brown, Wally Snow, Roy Burns, Peter Donald, Joel Leach , Karen Ervin, John Magnussen, Brian Kilgore, Rob Carson, Les De Merle.

*** Lesson Details ***
The lessons are tailored to the goals of the student. Fundamentals are taught within the context of the styles of music that the student prefers. As the students skills and knowledge increase, his exposure to a wider palette of musical styles will increase. Styles taught include: Rock, jazz, funk, r&b, pop, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean, classical-symphonic.

Kris has really improved my singing, both in terms of how I sound and how comfortable it feels for me to sing, and has taught me valuable techniques that I'll continue to use into the future. He pointed out problems in my singing, such as pitch issues as well as a "shaky/nervous" and helped me fix these.

Kris is awesome!

Kris is awesome! You will never meet anyone who loves musicor teaching as much as Kris. I startedwith him almost two years ago, and as an adult, beginning voice student I ampretty inhibited. Kris has an enthusiastic manner about him though, that reallyhelps you relax and feel more confident as he instructs you. When I started outthere was a real tightness in my voice that was probably more psychological thanphysical, but he showed me some important techniques for voice relaxation andamplification. For someone as shy about singing as I am, some of histechniques may seem a little outlandish at first, but they really do work! My karaoke buddies tell me that I sound even better than before! Iwholeheartedly recommend Kris to anyone who is looking for an enthusiastic andknowledgeable teacher.

I have been teaching and singing professionally for over 25 years. In the lesson, I always start with warm-up vocalizing. Then, we work on songs, depending on the student and type of voice and interest; and always including music theory, the foundation. Each student is unique; so I customize the lessons and repertoire to suit each student. Even if someone cannot match pitch, I have had great success. We work on improving tone and expanding range as well as song interpretation.

About Amber
I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who started playing piano around 8 years of age and participated in many musical activities. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Music Education (voice and piano). I have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, including the Blue Note, NYC, and appeared as a guest soloist at the 2000 Southern California Summer Special Olympics. I also participated in ensemble groups such as the Masterworks Chorale in NYC, and the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California; and currently I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs.

Inspired by my love of music, I have been teaching piano and voice for over 25 years from NY to LA and now Orange County. In conjunction with my teaching skills, I have
excellent communication skills, patience and enthusiasm, and work well with children and all ages. I feel that music is an important part of education, and it aids in the development of cognitive and motor skills. And most of all, it is fun and rewarding, and a skill to last a lifetime!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Amber and working with her today. I was immediately put at ease - Amber made me feel welcome, accepted and was incredibly helpful to me today, as I am auditioning on Sunday to sing as a soloist at my church! I have great exercises to strengthen my diaphragm, and she gave really good instruction regarding how to get the correct sound for each voice range. I am looking forward to meeting with her again, and continuing my studies under Amber.

Amber met me at her door with a smile on her face although I was much too early due to my over active excitement at arriving for my first lesson. Her first words to me were, "I'm so proud of you." That was a complement connected to my age of 83. I could have hugged her. Our lesson consisted of warming up my vocal cords after a long period of not singing. It was noted because of my hearing loss, that I was having trouble pitch wise and this would be something for me to work on besides my breathing. Amber's lesson was exactly what I needed and I can't wait for my next lesson.

Above all, I want to create a positive and effective learning environment that is based on the singers needs/wants. I am classically trained in opera theatre, and am getting a degree in vocal performance. I began singing as a jazz/pop/r&b musician, and have experience singing most genres. I want to provide the tools for healthy singing, as well as confident stage presence, wether you wish to sing for your career,or just want to better your instrument. I will help to develop good technique and musicianship skills that will aide you in any musical endeavor 🙂

About olivia
I am currently a student at California State University San Bernardino, and I'm going to graduate this year with a Bachelors in music, with a concentration in vocal performance. My goal as a singer is primarily to perform, as I've been doing it my whole life and it has been my passion since I can remember. While I've studied classical music at school, I sing many genres. I would like to teach lessons to share what I have learned, because I can help singers achieve a good foundation for good singing. As a singer it's important to understand breathing and technique so as not to make yourself tired or even cause damage within the vocal chords.
My experience as a performer the past few years has been through school. I have been in many productions within opera theatre as well as had roles in musical theatre. I was the female lead in "Don Pa
squale" in 2016, as Norina, and sang the lead in "Monkey See Monkey Do" as Maria. I played Alba in "La Curandera" in 2015, and Cinderella in "Into the Woods" that same year. I have sung with the vocal jazz ensemble as well as the chamber singers at CSUSB for about four years. While I was very involved in performing through Cal State, I also enjoyed singing before I decided to further my education in college. At a very young age I was involved in music and entered many talent shows and competitions. I was in the televised series "American Juniors" when I was about nine. And won the Inland Empire talent search when I was around 12 years old. In 2008 I sung for the Blue Jay Jazz festival accompanied by the Carl Saunders Sextet, and the same year at the Lake Arrowhead film festival hosted by Gloria Loring. I received a scholarship from the Blue Jay Jazz foundation and have used it to further my music career. I have also sung a number of times as a guest artist at the L.A. African American museum, and for the L. A. Walk-a-thon. have loved singing, and am continuing my career when I graduate as I would like to continue my education and experience, as well as help other singers improve their teqhnique and musicianship skills, as well as develop their own unique sound.
