If you want to hone your technique, I am your teacher. In these lessons, I will teach you proper posture, breath support, and voice placement.

About Sarah
First of all, thank you for taking a look at my profile! I know you probably have a lot of teachers to choose from on this fabulous website. Here are a few reasons why you should study with me!

1) My experience as a teacher: I have been teaching both privately and at music schools for over 6 years. I have experience teaching private voice lessons and conducting choirs.

2) My experience as a performer: I currently sing and perform in the Chicago area. I know how to prepare you for auditions and performances because I myself am performing and auditioning.

3) My students: Several of my students can be seen singing in choirs or performing leading roles theaters in the Chicago area and are represented by talent agencies such as Gray Talent Group. Also, just this past year, I helped one of my students gain acceptance to ChiArts, a p
erforming arts school that only accepts 10% of its applicants.

4) I make it fun! Here is a quote from one of my reviews:
“Exactly what anyone would need to gain knowledge about the mechanics of singing and she makes it fun, too”

It is my goal to help every one of my students:

1) develop a healthy singing technique that will bring longevity to your career or hobby.

2) learn music efficiently and independently.

3) develop good practice habits.

4) learn basic ear training/sight singing.

If that sounds like something you would like to learn, click the green button on my profile to book lessons with me. If you are not quite ready to book, feel free to ask me a question.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
I've been studying voice for 10 years and teaching consistently for over 6 years. I received my M.M. from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and my B.M. from Wheaton College. Since graduating in 2013, I have been working and performing in the Chicagoland area. Some performance highlights include but are not limited to performing with Light Opera Works, CCPA's production of the Chicago Premier of Daron Hagen's Amelia, and performing with the Grant Park Chorus.

I look forward to working with you!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide books. I expect my student to provide a piano.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in operatic singing. I received my training in opera; however, I also have training and performance experience in musical theater. I believe I am well equipped in several genres.

You would learn every vocal technique in addition to musical skills and musicality while singing a variety of songs and vocal warm ups.

About Marissa
My musical journey started in high school when my algebra teacher saw me in the hallway, grabbed my hand and brought me to the choir room to sign up for The Sound of Music auditions. To this day I cannot believe my math teacher unknowingly sent me straight down a path that I would walk the rest of my life. After The Sound Of Music I never left music. I kept singing in high school by participating in the school musicals and different choir ensembles. When it came to college I started taking private lessons and music classes for fun until I realized this is my passion and I wanted to make a life of this. When you wake up everyday and the first thing you do is sing at that point there was no other way to live. There I started my journey with really learning the voice as an instrument and how it works. I found that I am a vocal scientist
at heart believing you will go a long way as long as you know how to grow. Being a vocal scientist, I find it so interesting to know what exactly needs to happen when we sing in order sing in a healthy and beauitful manner.

While I was at Moraine Valley after I firmly choose music I felt I needed more of a diverse program so I can answer any possible music based question. I then went on to get my degree at VanderCook College of Music where they teach nothing but music education. Their program intensely teaches all the band and orchestral instruments on top general education classes and your major, mine being voice. While I was there I also took the time to study privately with our percussion professor to learn rhythms and with our sight singing and ear training professor to further develop my ear and knowledge. All in all I have been studying the voice for 11 years and counting. I do all this so that I could pass that experience down to you.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons I like to teach vocal techniques such as raising your soft palate, correct breathing techniques, and a forward placement. These are the tools to help a vocal musician grow for the rest of their lives.

Another part of being a vocal musician that I teach in every lesson is ear training and or rhythm. These are things I wish I would have learned earlier on and are essential to being an independent musician.

I like to keep a more uplifting environment when teaching so although you should expect a push for success, you should always feel comfortable and not afraid to make mistakes.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the studio room, electric piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide literature and a music stand while the students should have a full length keyboard and or piano.

*** Specialties ***
I teach rhythm, sight singing and ear training, general musical terms, as well as specific vocal techniques.

My approach to teaching my students how to sing is to make sure they feel comfortable each moment of the way while implementing challenges that will allow them to grow as artist! I give my students the option to pick a song of their choice that they would like to work on and then I will pick a song for them that I feel will help them meet theirs goals as singers!

About Keanon
I love everything about teaching! I love music; it is my life. I sleep, breathe and dream music. I am a Columbia University Chicago graduate; I graduated with a degree in Music with a concentration in Classical Voice. I have performed in numerous operas and musicals, as well as, sung on Gospel Cruises all around the world. In my eyes, the student is the main focus so whatever issues, concerns or request the student may have I will treat them with priority. I am all about strengthening the natural born talent and making my students the best vocalist they can be. I'm here to serve the students and that is what I will do until they are confident in their gift...music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I take music very seriously but at the same time I like my lessons to be fun and a joyous experience. I am very patient and helpful with any strugg
les that may seem too hard to the student. I will start my students off with the basic vocal warm ups and then move on to material that they would like to cover and if so the student doesn't have material to cover, I will present them with material. Being a singer is not easy at all, so I will challenge my students by giving exercises that challenge them to sing for proficient. I will also bring in material that is brand new and ask the students questions about the piece. The student is in the lesson to learn everything about music, so any type of material that I feel will benefit them and help them move closer to their goal, I will definitely present to them. After 3 to 6 months students will be able to sing in the 3 minor keys and the major key. The student will also have knowledge and know how to sing at least 3 different modes. The singer will know how to read basic sheet music and perform it with solfege. The singer will also have 4 songs of my choice or their choice mastered and ready to perform in front of an audience. Lastly, the singer will have knowledge of proper breath control while performing, usage of a microphone, and intonation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano/ Keyboard
Music Stand
Water

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, gospel and R and B singing.

Keanon is a GREAT teacher/artist/musician/mentor

I've been working with Keanon for almost a year now. Aside from being an amazing vocalist himself, he does everything he can to help students reach their full potential and find their voice. He makes lessons fun while constantly keeping you challenged. There's always encouragement from him to strive to be better, which can really bring the best out of singers. Whether you're simply singing for hobby, performing for shows/auditions, or ready to record, Keanon has something to offer to any aspiring musician. He has a passion and love for music and understands it's a gift that must be shared with the world.

I emphasize classical technique from a physical perspective, and lessons are sometimes a body awareness workout. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Through this physical approach, we discover what the student's voice truly is, instead of attempting to mimic popular artists.

Singing and Voice lessons must be at least 45min duration.

Customized for individual goals, Singing lessons may include many things. Perhaps your goal is as simple as enjoying the healthy benefits of breathing deeply, strengthening posture, and singing for fun. Senior citizens can take singing lessons for the purpose of remembering old songs while sitting up and breathing. Singing lessons teach proper vocal warm-up, but also emphasize becoming familiar with the many standard songs of various genres.

Absolute beginners are welcome to start out with me, learning to match pitch, and building good habits from the first lessons. Less experienced singers will improve upon their beginning ...

About Melodie
Dudeist Priest‘s approach to teaching music
(1) Singing student learns how own body functions as a musical instrument, on a flexible schedule.
(2) Student learns how other artists use music to communicate, advocate, heal, and grow.
(3) Student learns how to use music for self-discovery of artistic aims.

I am Miss Melodie F, a highly experienced private lesson teacher of voice, piano, and theory. Please read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Complete beginners are welcome. Advanced lessons are available for singing and voice only.

Are you an adult who misses the love of music you enjoyed before life responsibilities took over? If so, you are like most of my recent students.

I teach adult students private music lessons. My specialties and approaches are
(1) blending what the student wants with what the s
tudent needs,
(2) classical vocal technique from a body awareness perspective,
(3) how to sight-read keyboard scores, and
(4) music theory translated into something that makes sense.

If you don't practice that's not a deal breaker, but admit it so I can modify the plans to give you your money's worth.

You may schedule a lesson when you want or can afford one rather than being forced to take a lesson at the same time every week; that is the Schedule-As-You-Go option where lessons have no recurring schedule slot. I have weekday office hours available on a Schedule-As-You-Go basis which you won't find on the general availability information here on this profile.

Singing and Voice
Singing and voice lessons have minimum 45min duration. Do you want to do the physical work it takes to become a better singer? Do you have a place to practice? Have you read the "Your First Singing Lesson" section found on each Singing or Voice Subject Page and still want to take singing lessons with me? If you can’t say “Yes” to all of these things I can still work with you. Sign up for Music Theory lessons instead, tell me what you want to learn, and we can go from there.

Piano
Do you have regular access to a “real” piano, with weighted keys and a damper pedal? If all you have is an unacceptable keyboard sign up for Music Theory and I can still teach you how to read keyboard music, and play scales, chords, and songs by ear.

Music Theory
Music theory lessons are the most flexible option for general curiosity. You don't need much more than pencil and paper to start music theory lessons. Tell me what you’re interested in and I’ll teach it from a Music Theory perspective.

The current fee for a 45min lesson appointment in my studio is $41. Online singing and theory lessons are the same price. Lessons must be prepaid, with a strict 24hr cancellation deadline.

My teaching studio is a residential office in a high second floor walk-up near the intersection of Chicago and Ashland. I might be able to travel within East Village / Ukrainian Village / Wicker Park / Noble Square for an additional $15 travel fee. If I travel to your location we can negotiate younger ages and group fees.

Upfront deal breakers:
• I have a problem with fragrances. If I can smell something on you I may not be able to work with you. We could discuss online lessons as an alternative.
• One quietly observing adult human guest is welcome with 48-hour notice.
• If you are a singing student you need a place where you can practice and you must read the Your First Singing Lesson section prior to your first cancellation deadline.
• If you don’t have regular access to something that can legally be called a piano, including weighted keys and a damper pedal, don’t take Piano lessons.

Ask me a question using the Ask-A-Question feature. Watch my videos and think about it. I'm a good teacher. I sincerely appreciate the time it took you to read my profile. Thank you.

My lessons with Melodie have been great! She is extremely knowledgeable. I'm a new piano player, and she has been very patient with me as we work our way through the basics. She is great at explaining the theory side in a way I can understand. And the out of class work she suggests not only drives home what we worked on in the lesson, but it also has me playing some basic songs...which is encouraging and keeps practice fun!

I have enjoyed singing from a very young age. I went on to major in Vocal Performance in a Conservatory in New York and have performed as a vocal soloist in opera, musical theater, oratorio, and many choirs and ensembles.

I had an early desire to teach others and have been doing so since 1985. Having performed in many musical venues, I naturally wanted to share what I have learned with others aspiring to perform.

Let me help you develop your REAL VOICE and hone your skills as a performer.

About Michelle Kei
Michelle Kei I., a soprano of Japanese and American heritage, "uses her strong dramatic soprano to slice through the orchestra" in a varied repertoire that encompasses Verismo to Broadway. Possessing a captivating stage presence and praised as "superb," "gifted," and a "constant breakaway from the rest of the vocal pack," she has entertained audiences on stages around the world.

Those are the first two sentences of my professional biography. I thought I'd use them to get the ball rolling.

Ever since I can remember, I've always been a performer. I come from a very musical family. I was always singing! I sang at home, in church, in show-choir and musicals at school - basically anywhere I could find an audience!

When I decided to go to college to study music, I chose the prestigious School of Music at Indiana University. I wanted to
sing Broadway, but my father encouraged me to study classical singing first, so I'd have the foundations for a bulletproof technique that could endure a long and demanding career. I'm so glad that he did!

Who would have thought that I would learn to LOVE opera?!? It had everything that Broadway did, and so much more! Plus, I learned to fill a theater with the sound of my voice and soar over the orchestra WITHOUT A MICROPHONE!!!

Would you like to learn how to do that? I can show you how.

Let me help you find your REAL VOICE!!!

What you can expect from me:

- I will provide a supportive and effective work environment.

- I will make recommendations on repertoire based upon your goals

- I will provide you with an individualized regimen of study based upon your strengths and development, not a standardized format of study.

What I expect from you:

- Learn the musical selections we choose. Your lesson time should be used for improving your technique, not learning your music.

- Leave your outside life at the door. It will be waiting for you when you leave.

- Enjoy the process. Experiment. If it doesn't work, try something else. Take constructive criticism as an opportunity for improvement, not as a personal attack.

- Commit yourself fully! Be engaged. The benefit you receive is equal to the work you put into the process.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about SingITforte/Robert and Michelle. My daughter had previously been enrolled in private voice lessons 3 different times at 3 places. I was dissatisfied because while she was getting practice she wasn’t learning and growing as a vocalist. My daughter and her friends are constantly singing and involved in musicals. While at a performance I noticed a dramatic difference in their vocal performance. When I asked their parents about what they were doing they both told me that their children were enrolled in lessons with Michelle and Robert.
I enrolled my daughter and it has really been such a positive experience. She loves going to her lessons. They are professional, positive and encouraging. She is learning so much and is improving and strengthening with every lesson. Lesson location is convenient and secure. We have finally found what we have been looking for in vocal instruction. Wonderful, competent instructors who are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

I would not have been prepared whatsoever for the (what seemed like) never ending process of college auditioning. While college auditions are typically anxiety boosters, Michelle and Robert’s technique and ways of preparation over prepared me to the point where the audition was a breeze. With their help using mock auditions including sight singing, how to self warm up, posture and the necessity for 3-5 pieces of repertoire that fit my image and sound, I would not be where I am today. I knew nothing of the tediousness that a college audition was. Throughout my practice we worked on acting, something I needed major reform on. With practice, my acting made me more confident performing my piece as well as engaged my audience. Without both of their motivation and push I would not have succeeded the way I did and my audition would have been a lot bigger and scarier, when in reality it wasn’t. The biggest help for me, I believe was the mock auditions. With constant practices that mimicked the actual audition, this prepared me both mentally and physically for what the actual procedure would be like. I practiced entering the room as well as greeting the judges, something I hadn’t thought of prior. Interacting with the judges seemed a lot less nerve racking with the use of practice questions and how to answer them in a polite and engaging way. As we continued to practice, my nerves subsided. It became routine and over prepared me for the actual audition. Without Robert and Michelle’s aid I would not have been able to overcome some of my personal anxieties as well as succeed the way I did. Their constant motivation and cheer helped my nerves and allowed me to completely relax yet stay focused when practicing. I wouldn’t have the confidence I have today without their help aiding me in my vocal presentation and interaction with school officials/judges. Any student would be extremely lucky to have Michelle and Robert prepare them for college. With their tough work ethic and constant motivation, success surely follows.

I used to be a terrible singer, and now I'm a professional. I have had many teachers, and I learned a lot of techniques. Want to try some and wow your friends at a party? I often do.

About Jon
Jon N. was born and raised in Mexico City and is proudly an American citizen. He has been performing since the age of three, on several instruments, studying music since fourteen, and still takes lessons to this day. What's not to love?

He is proud to teach at all levels, including many professional musicians with master’s degrees, adult beginners, and of course, kids of all ages between 8 and 75.

They are encouraged to select the music they want to learn, so we have worked on classical music and original compositions, which I also coach, jazz, blues, pop, rock, the Great American Songbook, reggae, seven different kinds of Jewish music, and other ethnic music from all over the globe.

Frequently the younger students will request a tune I've never heard, but I magically transform the MP3 into a handwritten score at the student's l
evel. Example, one of my adult beginners wanted to play the big symphonic poem Scheherazade, and I wrote out the main tunes for easy piano.

I will tailor every lesson to your needs. After determining your goals we will come up with a lesson plan together. All my lessons stem from classical training techniques which will provide a solid basis upon which to sing any style of music.

About Amanda
I am a classically trained opera singer with a 18-year background studying voice and performing on stage. I have experience with a variety of styles: classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, rock and more. I perform all over the Chicagoland area in various bands and I am currently a member of improv-opera group Forte Chicago, which works to debunk the stereotypes of opera as an art form.

I began teaching beginner voice lessons a few years ago and I have found that sharing music with my students brings me so much joy. My past and current voice students ranged in age from 8-65.

I play piano as much as I can for my lessons. We will use recorded accompaniment (karaoke tracks, piano accompaniment tracks, etc) as needed.

I have extensive knowledge of music education techniques, music history, and theory. I am also proficient in Itali
an, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. My many years of professional chorus work and time as a section leader also contribute to my ability as a teacher and singer.

I teach lessons out of my Ukranian Villiage apartment.
I have a very friendly Siberian Husky, Lando, who will be present at lessons at my home. He usually sits on the couch or floor and sleeps during lessons. If you're lucky, he might sing along!

I enjoyed the classes with Vocal Coach Amanda because I learned the fundamentals of singing in an entertaining fashion. In addition, you are not going to believe it, but as a test, she asked me to perform Halleluja in a duet in front of 100 people at a reception at the John Hancock Center. I passed the test because she also worked on helping me to build confidence. My grade to Coach Amanda is A+. Unfortunately, I am spending my summer in South America and I cannot continue until Fall. Singing is so much more than letting the sound out of your body. With me as your teacher, we will study breath support and vowel focus to grow your sound, ear training for precision and theory for a deeper understanding of the music you'll sing.

About Claire
My name is Claire and I have been making a living as a touring/gigging musician for the last eight years. I studied music performance and production at Columbia College Chicago. I have played in a variety of styles, both solo and as part of a band. I currently tour with my band, The Lucky Dutch on keys and vocals. My students start their journey learning music of their choice, sparking interest and enthusiasm from the very first lesson. My motto is "Relentless Positivity" and it shows in my lessons. There is never a consequence for a wrong answer or misplaced note and the worst thing that can happen is we play it again. We will work together to navigate this inspiring and often humbling path.

I've got little natural ability but I love to sing, a combination that means I pretty much sing alone in my car. In the dark. (haha) I knew I could improve, but the thought of taking lessons was so frightening that I put it off for decades. I wish I hadn't! Claire has a smart intuitive and always-positive style of teaching, honing in on just what I need to focus on to improve. Something else that helps me is to visualize what's happening when sound is made, and Claire is aware of the physicality behind a voice and describes it well. She's a really great communicator in addition to being a superbly knowledgeable and talented musician. If you've been putting off singing lessons out of fear or whatever, Claire's the teacher for you.
