The first thing I do before the first day of class is send out an enthusiastic email to introduce myself. We then Briefly discuss the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy, technical, and intellectual competencies the students would like to achieve by the end of a period through the questionnaire. This is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The customized syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during our lesson together. I incorporate technology all the time. I'm also inclusive driven because I believe everyone can learn no matter their capabilities or background, I also engage with my students by catering to their interests, and I embrace my dualities and share them with my students.

I’m Juan F.. I’m a voice teacher from Buenos Aires, living and working in the DMV area. I’ve been studying and performing music for over 20 years. I’m a guitarist, singer and voice teacher specialized in a voice method that is called Functional Voice Method, also known as Rabine Method in honor of it’s creator Maestro Eugene Rabine. Voice health is essential and the cornerstone of this pedagogy. Understanding our physiology and anatomy and how to reach a balance in wich the vocal cords can work with no extra stress or tension. In a normal lesson we usually start with a couple of simple vowel exercises. This gives us an opportunity to see how our instrument (our voice) is at that moment. From that observation we follow with some exercises applied to a more specific aspect of the voice. Sometimes we will focus on breath control, sometimes in posture, sometimes in pitch, sometimes in lower or higher notes. By the end of the lesson we can sing more complex exercises or we can go straight to repertoire. This is the moment to apply the ideas of the lesson to our music! My teaching style: - Having fun while training is extremely important to me. All learning came from a space of enthusiasm and joy. Especially in arts and music. - Communication is essential. There should be a very open and honest dialog between teacher and student. I encourage my students to ask, propose and work together. - Because posture, movement and breathe have such a mutual influence; we usually need some work or exercise regarding the body (movements involving legs, arms, walking, jumping and a large etcetera). - I prefer to work with the music you want to sing and improve but from time to time I like to propose songs and ideas for your singing. About my method: We put our focus in health. Aesthetics or "beauty" of the voice is subjective. In this method we favor the voice health. The ability to sing without fatigue. The confidence that we can trust in our instrument. “The acoustical result of a healthy sound is a beautiful sound. And we will agree in any culture that it’s beautiful because it’s an instint aesthetic” (from the film “A journey into the universe of voice”) It comprehends 4 parts: 1) theory about the functional system (how the instrument works) 2) a theory about the sensomotorial system (how one person learns a sensomotorial activity) based on those 2 theories a ther 3) specific Pedagogy 4) specific Didactic

Broadway Singing is my passion! I've played piano on Broadway for Wicked, Mean Girls, Motown, and The Color Purple. And yet, teaching singing is just as rewarding. I focus on technique (low breaths, engaging support muscles, steady stream of air on the exhale...), pitch (the first step is to hear it!), and musicality - how to express not only the dynamic contours of the music, but also how to tell the story compellingly. I love working on Acting While Singing. So often, performers will act wonderfully until their songs begin, then drop out of character once they start singing. Many directors have said "I'd rather have an actor who can't sing than a singer who can't act". To improve this, we'll look at how to use a lyric specifically and personally in order to stay in the moment. I would love to help you discover yourself inside the songs you sing. Whether your goal is Broadway, community theater, or simply to have fun (all equally noble aspirations), I welcome the opportunity to help you connect with your work on the deepest, most authentic level. NOTE: I only work with students who are age 16 and up.
