Amazing teacher! My 6 year old daughter has been taking piano lessons with Matthew for more than a 1 1/2 years and is always asking when she will have her next piano lesson. He is a very patient teacher and very knowledgeable of the subject. Matthew has a very kid-friendly personality and now, my daughter has been taking a few singing lessons once in a while, too.

A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.

She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.

I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.

Looking forward to future lessons.

Amy is absolutely incredible. She showed keen interest in my concerns and challenges. She listened and knew exactly what I needed to do to get to where I want to be. She makes it easy for me to understand and she is truly a great coach. I can’t wait to see her again.

I feel that I have now developed such a unique approach that I virtually get results with each and every client.

Whether I’m working with someone in my studio or teaching online, my intent is the same. At the end of the session, my students will understand more about their voice and they have experienced a definite improvement. This is the goal I strive for in each and every session.
In my sessions, I will talk about the physiology of the voice, or how we physically create sound. I will listen to their voice and this will tell me the client’s present habits as well as their potential. I then explain this so they have a clear understanding of the work ahead and what to expect. At the end of every lesson, every student experiences a new freedom in their voice and a greater understanding.
Students will get a customized warm up with vocal exercises. These are all designed to give the client the physical feeling of how they are producing sound, with the goal of increasing range, ...

"I've got little natural ability but I love to sing, a combination that means I pretty much sing alone in my car. In the dark. (haha) I knew I could improve, but the thought of taking lessons was so frightening that I put it off for decades. I wish I hadn't! Claire has a smart intuitive and always-positive style of teaching, honing in on just what I need to focus on to improve. Something else that helps me is to visualize what's happening when sound is made, and Claire is aware of the physicality behind a voice and describes it well. She's a really great communicator in addition to being a superbly knowledgeable and talented musician. If you've been putting off singing lessons out of fear or whatever, Claire's the teacher for you."

"I took a series of singing lessons with Sara Ann because I want to be able to sing at the dinner before my wedding (preferably a duet) this coming November. I am not a singer, and have not sang in front of an audience since the 5th grade. Sara Ann did a wonderful job of introducing me to new exercises and warm-ups, helping me identify strengths that I can build off of, things that I can work on, and having a better understand of my own capabilities. I feel comfortable with the song that I've chosen to sing and am looking forward to the performance!"

"So rewarding!

My 14 year old daughter, Rachel, has been taking voice lessons with Nancy for almost a year. We believed that Rachel had native singing talent, but we have been amazed and delighted with how rapidly her voice has developed under Nancy's tutelage.

My spouse and I are not the only ones who are pleased... I am including here an excerpt of a social media post Rachel recently wrote: "About two years ago, my parents, my sister and I sat down on the couch to watch the TV show “X Factor”. A girl named Rachel Crow came on and sang, admittedly, beautifully -- bringing my dad to tears. In a fit of uncharacteristic jealousy, I lashed out and screamed at him for liking her singing better than mine, singing being something I enjoy immensely. I sing every chance I get! I made it my goal to sing so well one day that my dad would cry as a result. About six months ago, I started working with a singing teacher, Nancy. I progressively have gotten better and my voice is more controlled. Fast forward to tonight, during an awesome evening with some family friends. I sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for them, a song I had been working on with Nancy. And… I did it! My dad cried as a result of my singing! I know it sounds small, but I was incredibly excited and I needed to share it!”"

If You Can Talk, You Can Sing - NYC Voice Lessons

By Marjorie K. - New York City Singing Teacher

As a singing instructor based in NYC, I have always felt that there is no such thing as a bad student, only bad teachers. If you have a good teacher then you will in turn become a good student.

When a new student comes to me, I begin the lesson by telling the student right away that my motto is “If you can talk you can sing, and I guarantee it” - therefore the responsibility to get this student to sing well is mine, not theirs since they are paying me to help them find their best voice.

Once this is understood, the student can then relax, begin the process of trusting me and open up for the experience of learning to sing. I also make sure the student thinks of the lesson as a mini vacation from everything that has happened before the lesson and anything that will happen after. This allows for complete concentration during each session.

In addition to teaching private singing lessons in New York City, I give performance classes once a month. These singing classes address the elements of stage fright and performance anxiety which can’t be addressed in private voice lessons. Only in a class with other singing students will the student be able to learn skills to combat the nervousness that comes from the fear of singing in front of others.

I also present my students in local recitals twice a year to give them a performing goal to work towards. There is no better way to jump start the improvement of the voice than to have a performance you are preparing for. I teach all styles of singing and work from a classically trained throat, which is the basis of all correct singing. The only thing that changes is the style of music that one is singing.

In closing, the most important thing is that my students have fun in their lessons. After all, singing is a joyous experience and that is the reason we do it. One always has to remember that we sing because of the pleasure it brings to ourselves and others. Take New York City vocal lessons with me and experience this joy for yourself!

6 Things to Remember for Singing the Blues

Love to sing the blues? There a few things to keep in mind as you sing in this genre -- find out in this guest post by St. Augustine, FL teacher Heather L...   The history of blues music is rich and bittersweet. The genre was originally born as an expression of those suffering as American slaves, mostly in what's called the "deep South," That expression is heartbreaking by nature, but healing, too. The brilliance of the blues is that by singing about what's making you sad, you feel bette …
