I have been teaching flute for almost 20 years. I have a doctorate in flute performance and have done training and extensive research in body mapping and efficiency of body use. I take a very holistic approach to teaching and playing the flute. Each student is a person, an individual unlike anyone else. Every body is unique and therefore will play the flute differently than other flutists. When I teach, I aim to get to know the whole person in order to effectively work with the flutist. I work to get to know how each student learns and processes information. A flutist cannot become a good musician without making the journey their own. My goal is to give every student their own individual path to reach their goals, while also giving them the tools to use in their own teaching of individual flutists. I emphasize these specific areas in my teaching: the physical aspects of flute playing, including playing position and posture, breath control, sound and tone production, projection and ...

Dr. John Ross is an excellent teacher! He helped me take the music I was preparing to record to a whole new level. He has so much knowledge and can present that knowledge in a way that is approachable for students of any level. I am so thankful I got to study with him!!!
Michael
John is an outstanding player and pedagogue. Over a number of years, I've observed John work with students of incredibly diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. With each and every student, John connects with the individual, finding what will help that person rise to their fullest potential as a flute player. Technical progress is a given when studying with John. Additionally, students consistently enter his lessons eager to learn and leave with a renewed drive to grow. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

I love teaching and I have been doing it for about 6 years now. I love working with beginners, and I find myself especially good with children that are just getting to know music. Although I am open to work with any age-group.
As your teacher, we will work together to make you the most integral musician you can be. Every hand is different, so we will make sure we adjust to what works best for you and your skills.
I will share tips on how to practice and will follow up with your schedule and the amount of time you are putting towards your cello-life.
We will not only learn about cello in lessons, but also music theory (as I believe it is necessary for one to be able to not only make music, but also "talk" music.).
Since I am still a student, I am always looking for ways to make practicing more productive but also fulfilling so that is what we will do together as well.
I look forward to taking you from whatever level you may be at right now, to the most ideal performance/practice ...

About Adalus

I have loved teaching ever since I started doing so about 6 years ago. I have the most experience with children (begginners-intermediate), although I am comfortable with other age groups as well. My main goal as a cello teacher is not only for you to learn how to play the cello but to give you a b

"Jane is an excellent vocal instructor. I have two daughters ages 8 and 9 currently taking lessons with her. I myself am a singer and took lessons for years at Westminster Choir College. I am familiar with the typical approaches to vocal instruction and am very impressed with the novel techniques Jane employs when teaching, particularly children. Both of my daughters find Jane to be engaging, entertaining, and energetic. They always look forward to their time with her and typically think of their weekly lessons as one of the week’s highlights. Jane is very patient with my girls, taking the time to reinforce concepts and present the same information in alternate ways to ensure my girls understand and appreciate what is being taught. It is clear that Jane has a strong passion for teaching and singing, two essential components to being a top-tier vocal instructor. I highly recommend Jane to anyone seeking an instructor who possesses a diverse toolbox for teaching and is herself a very accomplished vocalist."
