It was my first lesson and the session was only 30 minutes so it met my expectations. I should have taken an hour because 30 minutes isn't long enough for a first lesson. Rachel is a good instructor so far.

About Kathy
Consider me your (All Access Pass) to harnessing your full vocal potential. I started performing professionally when I was 10 years old and with over 40 years of performance experience and 18 years of teaching experience I know how to mine and develop talent.

Now just a bit about myself...though I am classically trained, I am very blessed to have grown up in a musical family who appreciates all types of music. So at home we'd jam out to Jazz and Blues, but it was my classical training that allowed me to excel in my craft. I learned how to carry the skill sets from my classical training into multiple genres of music. In doing so I earned awards on the local, state and regional levels, opening doors for performance opportunities on stages both here, at home, and abroad.

In 1998 I decided to open a voice studio, determined to create
a learning environment that would blend the discipline of sound technique with a fun, relaxed atmosphere, free of negative critique. Here I am 18 years later and still going strong!

I am looking for goal oriented students, who are serious about mastering their instrument and willing to work hard to get there. Are you that person?

If so, I would love to hear from you.

From, my daughter, Hannah’s, first lesson with Kathy I KNEW I had found the right vocal instructor. Hannah climbed into the car after the lesson, face beaming, and the first words out of her mouth were… “Thank you, Mom for finding her.”

Hannah’s always been very active in and out of school in all things related to theatre and music, but she’s not always had the confidence necessary to land the acting roles or singing solos that she wanted. After she started studying with Kathy all of that changed. Armed with new singing and performance techniques she began getting solos and acting roles that in the past would have been out of her reach.

Hannah auditioned for a local telethon. When we arrived I was invited to sit in on her audition, which never happens. I was completely blown away and reduced to tears as she sang a jazz song with a very complicated scatting section. I didn’t feel like I was watching Hannah, I felt like I was watching a professional. She was accepted, and on the day of the telethon she performed the jazz piece from her audition as well as a contemporary broadway piece which reduced me to tears.. Yet another milestone in her journey. To say I was blown away would be an understatement and it was on that day that I realized my daughter, because of Kathy’s investment, could go on to do extraordinary things.

As the weeks passed Hannah focus on her craft began to intensify even more. She literally spent hours in her room practicing and I could tell, from listening, that as she was giving it everything she had, her hard work was already beginning to pay off. The evidence of that came as she auditioned for, and was accepted into, All National Choir, All Eastern Choir, and All State Jazz Choir. An even greater test of how much her abilities had grown came when she auditioned and was accepted into Berklee School of Music. I’m such a proud Mama!

Kathy has been a mentor for Hannah not only with regards to singing and performance, but also has become a friend who’s willing to go the extra mile to see Hannah succeed. She has taught her to believe in herself, to believe that she deserves what she wants and that, with hard work and humility, she will go far. Over the past year I have watched Hannah bloom into a confident, hardworking young lady. I am beyond thankful for Kathy and all that she has done for my daughter. I wish I had found her sooner!

Just had an opportunity to go to my daughter's first recital after signing her up for singing lessons with Kathy, and we were absolutely amazed at how much better she had become after only a couple of months - and everyone in our church has noticed it as well. It seems to me like Kathy finds a very good balance between the rigorous basics of voice training, and just having fun and exploring what the student wants to do. I am very happy we found her.

About Nicolette
Nicolette, B.F.A, is a young vocalist/pianist from the Chicago suburbs, who both performs and teaches locally. Her teaching experience includes teaching at Naperville Music Academy, School of Rock, and also teaching privately for years.

She has studied classical piano for over a decade with experienced and talented teachers, but is competent and enjoys teaching in many styles including pop, rock, and blues piano. Nicolette’s deep knowledge and love of music theory as well as her ability to translate it to young ears, helps her students to be well-rounded and able musicians from the start, no matter the instrument. She believes learning the piano should not be forced, but it should be nurtured and grown in musically inspired students. She customizes her curriculum for each student based on their needs as well as their musical desires.
Ni
colette’s vocal experience began in choirs, in which she sang in top touring choirs. She then began singing in competitions in the area as well as being a featured soloist. She studied under renowned Chicago-area soprano, Michelle Areyzaga at Aurora University. Nicolette has sung the roles of Galinda from Wicked, Desiree Armfeldt from A Little Night Music, as well as multiple operatic roles. She also has a joy and talent of singing pop and rock music that was first inspired by her love of The Beatles. She considers herself a true crossover artist and considers it part of her teaching philosophy to be a versatile singer. Nicolette is a passionate vocal pedagogue and has a talent for teaching healthy technique in singers while establishing a love and appreciation for the art of singing.

I am 23 years old and have been married for almost a year now! I not only play piano but a little bit of guitar as well. I taught myself how to play guitar, leading to the fact that I play a lot by ear but also by sight. Of course, I play both ways. I am very empathetic and love serving and helping others!

I have been playing piano for 15 years now. It is my passion. During my learning as a student it wasn't too hard for me to learn piano because I absolutely loved it and practicing was something I looked forward to. But, there were definitely things about my learning that I wish were different that would have made learning even better! I have 15 years of experience as a student that helps me as a teacher relate. I am able to teach towards the students needs. I look back at my experience as a student and the things I wish were done di
fferently I am able to apply to my own teaching. This way the students get the absolute best learning with the time they are given. I don't just follow a lesson plan but I teach towards the students needs. I don't move on unless that student understands every aspect of the basics and what we are working on.
I absolutely love teaching and I look forward to what the future holds!

About D'Ana
I am a professional opera singer and have been trained and performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the country. I do love performing but once I found teaching I realized how much joy I got from helping my students achieve their goals no matter how grand or how small. My honest opinion is that anyone can sing and that all should be given the opportunity to try!

As a vocal student, we will discuss what your goals are for our lessons together and what you hope to achieve in the long run. Students can expect improvements every week as you build upon the techniques and exercises I give you. I teach students to improve their breathing and tone production using the classical vocal technique and from there we will work on style and phrasing and overall performance of your piece. One common goal is to create a repertoire of song
s that the student can call upon at any time to sing with ease.

As I am still a working singer and will travel every few months to perform in a different concert or show. All of which is an attribute to my students as the more I learn in a professional setting, the more I can pass along to those I teach. Don't hesitate to ask if you would like to see my professional bio to get a better grasp of where I have worked in the country and the world.

My passions are Disney music, Broadway both classic and new, Opera, and really anything that can get your heart racing when you sing it. So let us get started on our musical journey! Looking forward to meeting you and to helping you unlock the singer you always had inside you.

I was born and raised in Germany where I spent most of my life. As long as I can think I've always loved music, and soon after I got my first guitar at the age of 13 I started to write songs. Calvary Chapel of Santa Barbara is the reason why I moved to the US. I've worked as a music director for the church for these last 6 years, working with and leading bands, playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass. I also offer bass lessons for beginners, should that be of interest to you! Before I moved to Santa Barbara I travelled throughout Europe to play concerts and I published 2 CDs with original songs. Our daughter needed an amazing instructor, and I needed someone who was flexible with our crazy schedule. Andrea was both, and we have been absolutely thrilled with our daughter's experience with her. She is a very gifted musician and teacher, and her patience, sweet sense of humor, and wonderful ability with children was a perfect match for our girl. Her guitar playing grew by leaps and bounds, which was wonderful, but we especially appreciated how much her confidence in playing in public grew as well. Our daughter also learned music theory with Andrea, which took her playing to a whole new level. Andrea is creative, fun, and loves teaching, and we are so thankful for her!
