Ricky Mier is one of the most exciting young banjo players I’ve heard. With a fertile imagination and the technique to support it, Ricky is on the cutting edge of the latest crop of banjo adventurers. I look forward to seeing where he takes the banjo next.

Ricky is a breath of fresh air, a young professional musician grounded in roots of Celtic and bluegrass, but drawing on the wide spectrum that music has to offer - be it a bit of funk, or influences from around the world. His exceptional musicianship shines through and his teaching style is equally appropriate for concert preparation, fundamentals, or fun - he's energetic, dynamic, fun, and incorporates much seemingly effortless but very tight improvisation. Give him a try - you will not be disappointed.

I’m not your average banjo student. I’d been self taught since high school and when I retired I decided I wanted to learn to play properly so I looked for a teacher. I found Ricky Mier online and with some trepidation I started my lessons. My trepidation stemmed from the fact that I was a hacker and Ricky is an experienced professional and an exceptional player. I thought I wasn’t the kind of student he was looking for. My anxiety was groundless because Ricky is much more than a great player, he is a committed holistic teacher. Our sessions are fun, challenging, and are focused on not only musical exercises but also tendon training, relaxation, and learning to listen. I’ve been with him weekly for almost 9 months now and while no one will mistake me for Bela, my playing has greatly improved. Whether your interest is Bluegrass, Celtic, or Melodic, Ricky can guide you on your journey in a fun, effective way. I really like our sessions. You will too.

About Richard
In 1999, I picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time and have been hooked ever since. In 2006, I graduated Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Drumset Performance, having studied with Mike Mangini, Dave DiCenso, and Terri-Lyne Carrington, amongst many others. Upon graduating, I've had the privilege of performing with some of New England's top club and GB bands, as well as some original acts in various genres. I've had the honor of performing at functions for Fenway Park, TD Garden, and The Blue Man Group. In 2012, I recorded with the NYC-based rock band The Young Presidents, appearing on several tracks that included Corey Glover (Living Colour), Jake Hertzog (Montreux Jazz Guitar Winner 2006), and Adam Ezra. The recordings were produced by Rob Fraboni (Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan)
. You can hear me on tracks 4, 5, 7, & 9 on their album "Coalition".

In addition to gigging, I also maintain a steady private teaching practice. From 2009-2013, I was a guest instructor at Berklee College of Music's annual Percussion Festivals, conducting drumset masterclasses and ensemble classes with mostly high school aged youth. In 2012, I was a counselor/instructor at Camp Jam, working with high school aged kids on bettering their musicianship and assisting them in performing with rock bands. I've also conducted small summer camp masterclasses at Boston Drum Center in Acton.

I still continue to perform and record regularly around New England and parts of New York, as well as teach privately. I also play cajon on some gigs, as well as guitar, piano, and am currently working on writing some original music, as well as several fiction and instructional method books.

Dor is an excellent drum instructor. He taught our 9-year old in home for 6 months and was terrific. Our son really advanced his speed techniques under Dor's instruction. We only stopped due to our son's broken arm and we look forward to resuming lessons with Dor as soon as possible. He's great with kids, punctual, reliable and a pleasant guy.

About Charles
As a graduate of The DePaul University School of Music, my performance program was rooted in orchestral, chamber, baroque, and 20th century+ music ensembles. While at DePaul, I had the privilege of studying with Alyce Johnson of The Chicago Lyric Opera.

Additionally, DePaul University's courses in pedagogy and orchestral repertoire, taught by members of the Chicago Symphony and San Fransisco Symphony Orchestras, have helped shape my teaching to accommodate all skill levels and various learning styles.

After completing school in Chicago, I moved to Boston to further my performance and teaching careers while pursing a Masters in music performance at The Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.

In order to have a fulfilling plan, I believe that students should work at their own pace with guidance and support while setting realistic
short and long-term goals. With this process, students succeed, gain positive energy, and continuously improve. In giving students space, this method encourages vital components: independence, responsibility, and curiosity.

About Jeremy
My name is Jeremy. I am a violinist and violist who has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, recitalist, and orchestral leader and member. Music is my greatest passion and joy and I hope to help others experience the same. I have performed in concert halls and at festivals in more than 10 countries in Europe, North and South America, and across the United States. I have performed at festivals including the Cremona International Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Horowitz Summer Music Festival, and have performed as soloist with orchestras including the Cremona Festival Orchestra and Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra. I have won first prize in the Cremona Music Competition and additional prizes in various other competitions. I have extensive experience in orchestral playing, chamber music, and and
contemporary music as well. I have studied and collaborated with many great musicians, and have tried to absorb every drop of depth and insight from them as possible. I believe that the most fundamental aspect of all musical learning is the development of an inner ear, and will work with all students on learning how to imagine sound so that they can then play with beauty, creativity, and quality.
