About David
Composer and guitarist David began formal music training at the age of 5 on the drums. He taught himself guitar as a teenager and began playing in local rock bands. Initially entering college as a Journalism major, his passion for music led him to Meramec College where he studied Music Theory with Robert C. Howard and classical guitar with Larry Bolles. From 1990 through 1993, he attended Webster University, and became only the second composer in the school's history to receive the BM/MM Scholarship. While at Webster, he studied composition with Dr. Kendall Stallings, Robert Chamberlin, and Kim Portnoy, Jazz History with Paul Demarinis, and 18th Century Counterpoint with Dr. Eloise Jarvis. During his education, he performed with many student ensembles and sat in on master classes by the great sitarist and surbaharist, Imrat Khan and jazz
guitarist Peter Leitch.

In 1993 he started St. Louis SoundWorks with Grammy nominated Adam Long and Mark McClanahan that specialized in mobile recording, and composing music for films and commercials.

As a musician, David has composed over 200 pieces for various instruments and combinations from small chamber ensembles to full orchestra. He was bandleader of two creative ensembles that focused on alternative notation compositions and improvised music, and later co-founded the avant-garde influenced rock band Diverted Course which released two CD's.

As a teacher, David has taught classical guitar and musicianship as an adjunct faculty member at Meramec College and Webster University. He has given seminars on the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Anthony Braxton. He has been teaching privately for 23 years and many of his students have gone on to successful music careers and performed all over the world.

I teach students of all ages in a fun and positive manner. I am flexible and will tailor the lessons to satisfy your own individual goals. Whether you are a beginner that wants to gain a foundation in technique, sight reading, and basic theory or an intermediate or more advanced player that wants to increase their knowledge and polish their skills, I will devise a plan to meet your needs. I encourage regular practice and like my students to keep a journal to monitor their progress.

I teach a variety of styles including classical guitar, blues, rock, jazz, and avant-garde.

Ultimately, I believe everyone needs a creative outlet, a way to express themselves, and has something unique to say, and I aim to help those students find their own voice.

Dave has been able to take me on a great journey! We have covered many kinds of music, and I'm greatly appreciative of his patience and encouragement. He was able to tell after just a couple of lessons that my original plans for getting lessons was never going to be enough. He introduced several topics, and whetted my appetite for more! If only all teachers could open doors this way!!!

About Kelsey
Hello there! My name is Kelsey, can't wait to meet you! I am fairly new to teaching private lessons, I started this January 2017. I love teaching, and I am very passionate about the flute! I'm excited to share my knowledge of this instrument with students, and to help them to achieve their best sound. I achieved my minor in flute performance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and graduated with my Bachelor's in 2012. I have personally been playing the flute for 20 years, and am able to teach students both to read music, and to improv. I perform in a duo several times a month around St. Louis and surrounding cities, specializing in flute improv and flute solos. I am a very patient, and enthusiastic person, and my teaching style is flexible and fun, focusing on attainable goals so the students can experience success.
I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!

About Sarah
Hi, I'm a 23 year old saxophonist attending Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. I specialize in fundamentals, like technique, building a solid sound, and music theory. I also specialize in higher level playing such as jazz and improvising. I've been teaching lessons since I was a sophomore in high school. I have studied with the very best (Jim Odgren, Dino Govoni, Mike Lee, John Wojciechowski, Bob Mintzer, Marcus Strickland, to name a few). My teaching style is friendly and energetic; I want students to be excited about playing saxophone. It's my passion and I look forward to letting my students find their passion for music as well. I also work at a saxophone shop where I test out horns and mouthpieces and work with social media and sales.

My prices are negotiable! if you are having financial troubles I am glad to make a p
ayment plan or lessen my costs.

Sarah is very easy to work with, always interested in helping you the student have fun with the sax, as she has. Despite her great experience and background (or because of it?) she never seemed bored or working beneath herself with a beginner. I could say more, but I better take this time to practice!

About Brandon
I hold a B.A. in Music from Covenant College, where my instrument of study was the mandolin. I studied for two years under Matt Flinner, winner of the National Mandolin Contest 1991 in Winfield, Kansas.

My particular strength as a player and teacher is on tone and technique. My lessons focus firstly on creating a clean, clear tone, practicing good right hand and left hand technique.

Though I do work with students to play by ear and improvise, I also like to emphasize reading music on the mandolin and understanding music theory. These emphases are balanced according to the particular interests and goals of the particular student. The goal of my teaching is to encourage the student to become a well-rounded musician. This way the student can achieve their current musical goals, but also will have the foundation to pursue additional u
nforeseen goals and interests as they progress.

If the student has interest, I also can teach lessons on mandola and tenor guitar.

About Olivia
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Theory from the University of Missouri, Saint Louis. I have been tutoring and teaching for the past two years, and currently teach voice and piano at School of Rock in Ballwin. I am comfortable with a wide range of styles and genres and seek to bring out the best in each individual student by focusing on their specific talents, needs, and musical goals.

I accept students who are eager to learn, have some very basic musical skills, and take lessons seriously and professionally. I respect all of my students' time and ask that my time also be respected, and I have an upright piano and vocal/piano sheet music in my home that I make available to all students. If I feel that a student is not a good match, I reserve the right to discontinue lessons.

Olivia is amazing! We are so incredibly lucky to have found her! We have 4 children at varying skill levels and Olivia is able to coax each one to not only learn at their skill level but to love and understand music in the process. I was worried that my busy kids wouldn't want to practice but thanks to Olivia's enthusiasm for music my children will walk by the piano and practice completely on their own. We have enjoyed the lessons so much that we've added voice for our oldest and without fail Olivia has inspired her on that front as well. She is truly a talented teacher.

About Amy
Hello! My name is Amy. I am a senior at UMSL (University of Missouri-St. Louis), pursuing a degree in Music Education. I am passionate about both learning and teaching. I have been playing cello since 2004, and have studied cello with Kurt Baldwin since 2014.

I have been teaching private cello lessons since January 2016, working with students between the ages of 7 and 60+ years old.

In order to cultivate individual skill and musicality, I emphasize a strong, technical foundation built on scales and etudes (which eventually leads to playing the cool stuff, I promise!). Together in lessons, we will find creative ways to practice efficiently and effectively, so that every time you pick up your cello, you will improve your musicianship and love your sound.
I am confident that we will have a blast learning together!

Thank you for you
r time :)
