I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it may be selected from the western classical, musical theatre, and popular rep based on the student's goals and learning needs with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

Learn the basics of bel canto technique or improve upon your foundation through vocalizes, various technical exercises and building your repertoire. With this foundation, you can branch into any style of classical singing or crossover into musical theatre, pop, rock, or country. I am a professional soloist. I sing primarily Gaelic/Irish & classical and lead singer as well as sang in various choirs (my college choir at RCC, Riverside Master Chorale, and many church choirs). I'm an Irish tenor that performs Celtic/Gaelic (e.g. John McCormack ballads) performances. I'm also Americana (e.g. Stephen Foster songs) tenor singer. In California I also was music therapist vocalist for Kaiser Riverside Medical Center, Kaiser Moreno Valley Hospital, and funerals. Advanced voice I use Robert Merrill method.

My name is Gretchen Tucker. I have been singing over 20 years. I have experience in a variety of choral settings, I hold a B.A. in music from Keene State College. I am also currently attending music therapy school. I am experienced in singing at weddings, funerals, patriotic, and historic events. My vocal training is popular, Broadway, religious, opera, and jazz. When I teach lessons I care much about the process, warmups, the anatomy, music theory, getting into character, vocal technique, and I have a kind and holistic approach. I believe music is a gift for everyone and that everyone can succeed. I love teaching beginners the power of music as well as seasoned musicians. I look forward to working with you.

Hello! I have a passion for helping students feel empowered and confident through the use of their voice, whether personal or professional. As someone who has struggled with and recovered from a vocal pathology, I feel that I have a unique perspective on the emotional taxations and challenges that vocal work can bring up. I strive to use compassion and the "love and logic" methodology with all of my students. I am passionate about voice pedagogy and voice science, and use a more anatomically based approach in my teaching, rather than metaphorical.

I received my master's degree in voice performance from the University of Northern Colorado in 2017, and hold a bachelor's in music education which I obtained from Colorado State University in 2013. I am a performing mezzo-soprano in a variety of genres, and I have a passion for teaching many different styles including classical, jazz, and musical theater.
