About Phil
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and teaching since 2008. Along with teaching, I've also been pursuing music recording, an endeavor which has produced two full-length albums and one that is still in progress that should be released sometime in 2018.

*** Lesson Details ***
When teaching guitar or any other instrument, I typically use a method book to guide the lessons. In addition to the lesson book, which will cover music-reading, we'll learn scales, chords and strum patterns, among other things. I try to tailor each lesson according to the student's skill level and individual musical interests.

After learning the basics, we can learn different styles of music, including rock, blues, jazz, classical, etc. I look forward to exploring these genres with you!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own instrument. I would ex
pect my student to have or to rent his/her own instrument.

"We highly recommend Phil to anyone looking for an excellent guitar teacher. Both our daughters are flourishing under his instruction. We love that he tailors his lessons to the individual student. He teaches everything from classical to contemporary including some of the girls favorite songs, which keeps them interested and practicing. He is extremely talented yet very humble and kind.

About Nicholas
I was born in the West Suburbs and began playing bass during high school. I moved to the city to attend music school at Columbia College Chicago, which I concluded with honors in the Spring of 2013. Since then, I have had the opportunity to play with a variety of bands at venues such as the House of Blues, Cubby Bear, Abbey Pub, Elbo Room, and others. With a firm grasp on a variety of styles of bass playing, such as pop, R&B, rock, alternative, blues, jazz, etc., I have had the opportunity to perform with numerous artists making original music in Chicago. Over the past year, I have also spent time touring on a national and international level with the Nick Moss Band, a blues outfit based in Chicago.

With a style firmly rooted in traditional music theory, I have a strong grasp over the concepts upon which 99% of Western Music is built,
from modern pop songs to the compositions of J.S Bach. That, combined with a very strong musical ear, gives me the ability to learn and teach music by ear or on paper, a valuable skill that any musician can use to their benefit.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons with me can be expected to not only go into the basic techniques of bass playing, but beyond that to the application of music theory, ear training, sight reading, etc. I don't just want to make you a great bass player, but a great musician.

Lessons with me are as rigorous as you want them to be; I don't believe in putting down students who don't have time in a week to devote hours of their time to the concepts discussed the previous week. We all have busy lives, and every student is different, so you will call the pace for our lessons together. If you are in a position to dedicate yourself to the instrument, I guarantee that there will be no shortage of material to which I can introduce you.

Here's a rundown of things I hope to work on with my students:

-Basic technique, such as finger position, plucking methods, and exercises to practice these skills
-Practical music theory, such as the fundamentals of melody, harmony, and rhythm, and how to apply these to learning new music or writing original material
-Ear training exercises to aid in discerning bass parts without the "Guess the Note" game
-The ability to read standard music notation for bass (sheet music) as well as how to interpret chord charts
-The ability to transcribe efficiently. This means listening to a track of your choosing and writing out the entire bass line from beginning to end.
-Standard rehearsal etiquette to build discipline, an invaluable tool for any musician in a rehearsal scenario
-Anything you have questions about! If you ever have a song with a favorite bass part that you would like help in figuring out, I would be more than happy to help you.

Let me emphasize that I have no intention of giving my students more than they can handle. The above list is an outline of the services I can offer, but is not a requirement for all students. Again, I will work at the pace that you decide, and help facilitate your development as a musician. That, above all, is my top priority.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students are asked to have an amp and bass on hand. I will bring my own bass, but no amplifier.

*** Online Lesson Details ***
Students need to have a webcam on their PC/laptop with a bass and amplifier, so that I can hear them well over the internet.

*** Specialties ***
I'm proficient in most/all genres of American popular music dating back to the fifties, be it Blues, R&B, Rock, Soul, Alternative, Folk, etc.

As a fellow music instructor I know a great teacher when I see one and Nick is one of the best. His high level of musicianship and extensive knowledge inspires everyone around him.

Aside from being an amazing player, Nick is a kind and reliable person. He is great at breaking concepts down and explaining them in a clear way, which is essential for helping students through their most difficult challenges.

If you are looking to become the bass player of your dreams, Nick is your man!

Great students make great teachers!

Nick was my bass student at Columbia College - he also studied with Chuck Webb. He was an excellent student, always motivated. punctual, enthusiastic and right on top of all the assignments.

He has turned into a terrific professional player and will make a fantastic bass teacher. He knows the instrument inside out and is an excellent communicator. I highly recommend him to teach you or your child the bass guitar.

A wonderfully knowledgable teacher and mentor

Nick has an immense amount of music theory and bass technique knowledge but I think the thing that sets him apart is his patience, reliability, passion, and his belief in others. Nick has a wonderful work ethic and will work hard to provide his student's with whatever they need.

About Jason
I first began teaching when I was in undergraduate school as a music major. I was a teaching assistant for an introduction to music theory class. It was always encouraging for me to see people grow in their understanding of music and to apply that knowledge in a meaningful way. From that point on, I sought for further opportunities to teach others the wonders of music and how it could transform their life in such a meaningful way. This led me to work at a piano store near to the college as a beginner piano instructor and teaching guitar, bass guitar, and piano on my own through private instruction.

I've always saw teaching as an opportunity to share with others what was given to me in a judgment free way. I also know for myself that people learn in different ways and at a different pace. Because of that, I always take each student fro
m where they're at and help them to grow in a way that is most natural for them. This helps the learning process become really enjoyable, which often results in retaining what we learn.

As for me, I began playing guitar at the ripe old age of 13. Later on, I picked up other instruments as well. I currently play for two different bands and take great pride and joy in doing so. I am also a lifelong learner and to continue to grow in my studies of music. It is my belief that as long as we are alive, it is an opportunity to grow. Won't you therefore join with me as we grow together in this journey of understanding.

One of the lasting joys of life is being able to sit down in your living room alone and play your guitar or keyboard. And you can play for the rest of your life. Now that is a bargain. Jason Menagio can help you make that dream come true with his passion for playing and teaching. Once you get that wonderful feeling of accomplishment that accompanies learning to play music, just like a hole in one on the golf course, no one can take it away. I have taught for 50 years and recognize in Jason a unique ability to not only teach the fundamentals, understand the psychology behind it, but also to feel the passion of music. That sets him apart.

Daniel is a great teacher. At first I thought he might be a little too "by the book" and didn't know how much he would be willing to adapt to my particular needs, but after just a couple weeks it's clear he's both in tune to what I need and what I'm ready for, and flexible enough to adapt the lesson in realtime to address my questions. Great experience.

About Pascal
Pascal was trained as a classical guitarist at the "Ecole Normal de Musique de Paris" in France. He has always been driven by different musical styles. In the late 1980's Pascal was the co-founder of the "Trio Français de Guitare," with which he played music from 20th century French composers for several years throughout Europe but a focal dystonia prevented him to pursue a professional carrier as a classical guitarist.
He then obtained a scholarship at the «  Maitrise Baroque de Versailles » for a year where he learned Choral and Orchestral direction.
In the late 1990's he founded the Progressive Rock band "Saens" with whom he made 3 albums produced in Italy and UK.
Between 1990 and 2004 he was the music director of EISF and adapted and conducted a wide range of Musicals and Opera from "The Wizard Of Oz" to the Benjamin Britten " N
oye's Fludd".
in 2012, he married his wife and moved to the U.S. where he played Bass guitar in bands as different as the Americana Band "Forty Mile Detour" or the Funky/ Soul band, "Groove Craft" and "Jupiter Down" a Metal Band.
Songwriter, singer, classical guitarist and bass player, Pascal always had a soft spot for cinema and more precisely B movies. When he learned that the musical 'The brain that wouldn't die" was being adapted in Charleston in 2016 / 2017, he jumped on it and was selected to be the creature
