Andrew has given my daughter the knowledge and the confidence that as a beginning guitar player is giving her much success. He offers a very comfortable atmosphere and is very friendly and has a great personality that makes it even easier for my daughter as a new player. Also he is very accommodating as far as scheduling of the lessons.

Andrew naturally has an ear and talent for music, always has. His passion for music started self taught and advanced throughout his professional career. His music range is wide spread stylistically, thus as a teacher he can focus on many different areas with each of his students. His improvisation skills are effortless both on stage and in our jam sessions. Andrew has a way of teaching that makes learning music very approachable. He is patient and well thought out about the process. Always fun to watch on stage and a joy to work with.

John R.

Mount Laurel, NJ

About John

My name is John. I am a graduate of Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where I received a Bachelors of Music Performance on the guitar. I have moved back to South Jersey, and am looking for students.
My areas of expertise lie in metal/rock/progressive playing, songwriting and arranging. I also feel at home in the classical realm as far as orchestration and arranging go. I can teach various techniques on the guitar (including the fore mentioned styles) along with funk, blues, jazz, alternate picking, sweep picking, legato playing, hybrid picking, harmonizing, chord melody, odd meter, theory,
and ear training as well as all things beginner.
I am also proficient as a vocalist, drummer/percussionist, bassist, and can find my way around a piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
The lesson is what you make of it. Every student (and every teacher) is different. I can be very easy-going and laid back, or I can be extremely stern and strict. It all depends on the personality of the student, how seriously he/she takes music, and how much/how fast he/she is willing to learn. Some students prefer to take things slow and let material sink in (which I recommend), while others like to go through material fast and "jump around". The choice is yours, and I will do my best to adapt. I do, however believe one should never move forward until a strong foundation is built upon the current topic of education. First you crawl, then walk, then jog, THEN run.
i will use Musicians Institute curriculum as reference material along with any other books I have which pertain to the knowledge you seek.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Basement:Couple of amps, PA, couple of guitars, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have guitars (electric, acoustic, and bass), cables, amps, metronome, tuner, music stands, (effects pedals, PA, mics, drums, hand percussion and piano if necessary). Student would need his or her own guitar and cable, and notebook w/ manuscript paper along with whatever else they may feel they need.(Tuner,etc.)

*** Specialties ***
Although I play many styles, I specialize in rock/metal/progressive styles as well as classical, although my classical technique could be considered more of a hybrid or a bit unorthodox in comparison to what is typically expected. Developing the ear as an all around reference to back up all other musical knowledge is my strongest method. I believe transcription helps reading immensely and putting theory in a musical context rather than just leaving it on paper helps the knowledge come to life. I exploit the origin of all things so that a strong foundation is built. If one knows where something comes from, then one can always build upon or subtract however they wish while still having a clear understanding of their options. In this case of course, we are dealing with the endless options and possibilities of music!

Matthew S.

Levittown, PA

About Matthew

I started playing trumpet in grade school and was in the marching band the first year of high school. I then switched to playing upright bass in the orchestra. This led to me being a part of the jazz band and playing instrumentals for school musicals. Upon graduation time, I received the gold medal for music performance in strings. I was also an AP music theory student. After, I pursued a bachelor's degree in music and took education courses. I have tutored music theory and given instrument lessons, but they were always self employed or from the university.

I wish to help others make music
an enjoying part of their lives, as it is in mine.

*** Lesson Details ***
For lessons, I like to get a feel of the student's current abilities and then start from there. I'm progressive in my methods and use a scaffolding technique. Going out of your comfort zone helps learning and development.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Fender Jazz Bass
Music Man SUB Bass
Ampeg amp

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students should have a logbook or notebook, staff paper, pencils, their instruments if applicable, and a metronome.

I bring extra staff paper and pencils just in case

*** Specialties ***
rock, jazz, funk, R&B, classical

Shane T.

Lawrence Township, NJ

About Shane

Hello! I'm Shane and I would love to be your voice teacher! I am committed to uncovering the true potential that each singer possesses as well as helping their awareness as a musician.

Regarding my private vocal, I identify the individual needs and create a curriculum based on the the learning style of each student. Vocally, I include the following subjects with every student: relaxation, posture and alignment, breathing, phonation, support, registration, resonance, and articulation. It is extremely important that every student has a sense of achievement and success.

Studio Lessons: I
currently have a studio that enables me to audio or video record each lesson, should you desire it. I also use a fully weighted electric piano for these lessons.

In-Home Lessons: I have the ability to travel for in-home lessons within a certain radius of my home in central New Jersey. My only requirement for these lessons is that a piano/keyboard must be present with a music stand being preferred, but not required.

Within these studio mediums, I am able teach the following vocal styles, techniques, and musicianship skills:
-Classical Voice
-Opera
-Musical Theater
-Jazz
-Pop
-Rock
-R&B
-Country
-Ear Training

My background in voice is extremely diverse with an undergraduate degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Before completing my Masters of Music from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, I worked as a session singer, background vocalist, and voice teacher. I was privileged to work with some of the most talented musicians in the music industry and I decided to pursue graduate work in an effort to share the importance and knowledge of a healthy vocalism.

I am currently living in Princeton, New Jersey where I work as a classical vocalist, opera singer, and teacher. I am able to teach out of my home, travel to your home, or teach online.

I look forward to hearing from you!
