Started with some basics and built on that. Was very helpful in showing me tuning, proper hand positioning, and how to improve my fingering (those pesky notes). Got a lot for the first class and enough homework to keep me busy! Will be meeting again next week.

Sam is great with my 10 year old daughter. He is easy going and makes the flute lessons fun and my daughter enjoys her weekly hour lesson. We let Sam know what our goals were and he has created a plan accordingly.

Sam can do both in-home and online lessons. The in-home lessons are great, no need to travel.

Overall Sam is a great teach and very affordable.

My Teaching Philosophy

Left Hand-
Scales and arpeggios our the bedrock of music. They are the foundation of everything harmonically and melodically. We will begin with learning our major, minor and pentatonic scales and corresponding arpeggios. Once we have an understanding of those we will delve into our modes and more “exotic” scales.

Right Hand-
The right hand is our time machine. It gives us the ability to play in time and with groove and feel. We will work on rhythmic studies string crossings and practicing with a metronome. Remembering music is harmony, Melody and rhythm working as one.
For those who are new to playing music the hardest thing for some to master is rhythm/time keeping. It is the black and white right or wrong of the music world. Often times our want to progress quickly is hampered by skipping over the basic building blocks of rhythm and time keeping.
The first critical step is the concept of subdivision. Subdivision it the mind ...

I teach based on what my students need, and cater to their specific learning styles. I take time in the beginning to help the student get acquainted with their instrument and the nature of how it works, as I have found a deeper understanding of this greatly helps learning across the board. Lastly, music is meant to be fun, so I always try to create that kind of environment and explain things as simply as possible.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Chelsea for the last six years at a summer music camp that is sponsored by my church in Peachtree City Georgia. Chelsea is one of our Artists-in-Residence and leads vocal workshops, coaches vocalists, performs with the praise team, and also performs solo material in her presentations. This past year she served as worship leader where she directed over 100 children (ages 5-11), teen and adult volunteers in vocal worship. Her enthusiasm for music is infectious and she brings a fresh approach to the music that is presented at each encounter. She is able to establish a rapport with students of all ages making them comfortable and engaged in the music.
During our week-long camp, Chelsea and other professional musicians present a beautiful concert for the public where classical works are performed. Chelsea treats the audience to sacred and spiritual works and has developed a devoted following of patrons who return annually to hear her perform.

He is great about integrating what you want to play, adding some music theory and keeping us on task to practice efficiently. Not to mention he is just a good guy... and very dependable!"

"When I first signed up with take lessons I was very skeptical. I had never done anything like this before and had no idea what to expect. I read the reviews which were great, but still felt skeptic because I know everyone has different experiences. I must say that all the reviews were very true! Tanisha made me feel very welcome in her home. She listened to my concerns and her feedback washed them away. I left her home studio feeling excited, confident and just high on life and what's in store for my next session."

"Kendra has been tutoring one of my daughters for about 2-1/2 years, and tutored my other daughter for about 6 months. We have been extremely pleased with the progress they both have made working with Kendra. She is very good at identifying where a student needs to make corrections and does it in a way that is positive and easy to understand. She is excellent at helping students find their own voice - interpreting the music and infusing creativity and meaning into each piece. We really appreciate how she has individualized her teaching approach to each of my girls' needs and goals, and how she is always positive and enthusiastic about their progress. When Kendra moved out of state, we opted to continue lessons with her online rather than find a new local teacher because she has been (and continues to be) such a great instructor. I highly recommend Kendra as a violin/viola teacher."

Maintenance 101: Caring For Your Drum Set Cymbals

Taking special precautions and caring for your instrument is important for all musicians - just taking a few minutes to clean your guitar, for example, can ensure a longer life of strumming and jamming. Similarly, taking good care of your drum set is an important habit to keep up.  Too many drummers forget the importance of keeping their drum set clean, and tend to pack up their equipment carelessly.  Cymbals, especially, are easily forgotten during this process.  Taking a few minutes to c …
