About Kristen
My name is Kristen K. and I am an accomplished violinist and teacher from Lexington, Kentucky. I began my musical studies at age 7 and quickly discovered my passion and love for music. As a young musician, I attended numerous summer music festivals, participated in the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra. I was a winner of two concerto competitions, which gave me the opportunity to perform solos with the youth orchestra. I continued my studies at the University of Kentucky as a Violin Performance major and it was there that I discovered my love for teaching music! After completing my performance degree, I decided to also pursue a Bachelor’s in Music Education. During my college career, I served as a teaching assistant in the University of Kentucky String Project, I taught group and private lessons at several local middle and high schools, an
d also maintained my own private violin and viola studio. I was also awarded the McCracken Scholarship Award for Excellence in Music Education. The most rewarding part of teaching has been seeing my students continually improve and reach their goals!

In addition to teaching, I also am an avid performer. I have been a member of the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra for 7 years and was a member of the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. I perform as a soloist, in chamber groups, and in orchestras regularly at various events and concerts. In the past few years I have attended international chamber music festivals in Prague, Czech Republic and in Lucca, Italy. I have also had the opportunity to perform with some of the world’s most renowned musicians including Itzhak Perlman, Midori, and Gil Shaham in additional to performing in the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Studying music has provided me with many wonderful opportunities to learn and to grow. It is my goal to help students really love and enjoy playing music and develop the skills that allow us to share the magic of beautiful sound. Maintaining a high level of mastery as well as continuing to learn about the art of teaching are fundamentally equal and of highest priority for me. Through teaching music, I hope to inspire students and help them reach their potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is relaxed and understanding of where each student is at, while always maintaining a quick pace for learning new skills and always expecting the student to put forth their best effort. I am very encouraging and positive. I work with each student and his or her parents to determine short and long term goals and try to best provide the materials, instruction and motivation to achieve those goals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room, well lit, piano, music stands

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical music but I also teach bluegrass and fiddle. I particularly like the Suzuki Method for beginning to intermediate students, but when they become more advanced I begin to incorporate concertos and sonatas.

I have been playing cello for over 20 years. I grew up in Switzerland and stayed there until my Masters' degree, then went on to study at the University of Southern California (Doctorate of Musical Arts 2015, prof. Ralph Kirshbaum). I recently moved to the Bay Area, where I have had the chance to play with local ensembles (Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Ensemble San Francisco amongst others). Although I love all music that involves cello, I especially enjoy exploring new repertoire as well as discovering old works on period instruments. Sharing my passion brings me a lot of joy, therefore teaching has become an essential part of my life.

...cellists of all ages and levels are welcome!

About Amritpal
Hi! I'm Amrit M.
I've always been passionate towards music from a young age. I start playing piano when I was around 5-6 and would write songs but never gave it any importance until later on in life. Around the age of 8, I got my first drum-set and that started everything. 2 months later I got a guitar and began writing and learning songs of all sorts of styles. Now 15 years later, I've continued the same path but added production to the menu as well as some bass and auxiliary percussion instruments. I've gone to school for music theory and recording arts. I've been a drum teacher for about 2 years now -- teaching over 100 students collectively. Over the years I've been in about 10 groups that are local to San Jose -- so I have plenty of performance experience as well.
With all of that said.. I would love to help you develop your skill
s in anyway that I can!

Tracy has been teaching my daughter piano and violin for more than 2 years now. She has helped her improve in technique, form, style, and sight reading. Also, my daughter took the National Guild Examinations in piano, and with Tracy's help and guidance, she was able to pass into the preparatory(advanced) level with flying colors. When my daughter wanted to start learning violin, Tracy created a very convenient platform for her to learn the new instrument while taking a break from piano. Overall, Tracy's positive teaching style and motivational personality have really helped my daughter keep her passion for music alive.

I am a professional opera singer and have been trained and performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the country. I do love performing but once I found teaching I realized how much joy I got from helping my students achieve their goals no matter how grand or how small. My honest opinion is that anyone can sing and that all should be given the opportunity to try!

As a vocal student, we will discuss what your goals are for our lessons together and what you hope to achieve in the long run. Students can expect improvements every week as you build upon the techniques and exercises I give you. I teach students to improve their breathing and tone production using the classical vocal technique and from there we will work on style and phrasing and overall performance of your piece. One common goal is to create a repertoire of song
s that the student can call upon at any time to sing with ease.

As I am still a working singer and will travel every few months to perform in a different concert or show. All of which is an attribute to my students as the more I learn in a professional setting, the more I can pass along to those I teach. Don't hesitate to ask if you would like to see my professional bio to get a better grasp of where I have worked in the country and the world.

My passions are Disney music, Broadway both classic and new, Opera, and really anything that can get your heart racing when you sing it. So let us get started on our musical journey! Looking forward to meeting you and to helping you unlock the singer you always had inside you.
