Our 10 yr old daughter has been taking lessons from Ms Angelica for over a year or so. It is very motivating to my daughter because she enjoys the weekly sharing time with Ms Angelica and likes the music teacher picks for her so she enjoys practicing it. She has progressed tremendously under Ms Angelica's teaching.
About twice a year there were recitals, and we can see that Ms Angelica‘s students are happy kids with nice performing experience yet without the stress.
We really glad that we found Ms Angelica. What she taught for our daughter's musical skills was beyond our expectations.

My daughter (5.5 years to 7) had Ms. Angelica as her first piano teacher and Ms. Angelica was a great teacher, kind, professional and loving. My daughter loved taking classes with Ms. Angelica and we were sad to say good-bye to her. She is a wonderful and kind teacher and any student would be lucky to have her.

Janet B.

Indianapolis, IN

About Janet

Hi! My name is Janet, and I would like to be your new music lessons teacher! As a quick biography, I have 20+ years of experience teaching both piano and voice lessons. I have taught piano students from as young as 5 years old up to a wonderful lady who was a grandmother many times over, and voice students from 10 years old up to adults. I have taught students of all ability levels, from the most basic beginner to very advanced performers. I welcome you to come to my home studio. I have both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in Music from the University of Indianap
olis. I retired in 2009 from teaching in the Indianapolis area public schools after 32 years of teaching elementary vocal/general/choral music.
As a student taking lessons with me, I will always put your desires as a musician first, and consider them to be the most important factor in guiding the progress of your lessons. While I will make basic assignments for you to practice for your next lesson, I am always open to including music that you would like to learn. If there is a particular style of music that you would like to study, or even a particular piece of music that you want to learn, please feel free to mention that to me, and I will do my best to find that music to add to your lessons. If at any time you have questions, requests, or comments, please either mention them to me at the lessons, or contact me by phone, text, or email.
I look forward to meeting you, talking with you about your desires and aspirations as a musician, and to guiding you and helping you to reach your goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will work with you to find the most convenient time for your lessons. Lessons are given in my home studio. While there will be basic material you will need to learn proficiently, you will be free to select the style of music you wish to study. I always tailor the lessons to suit the student's desires and aspirations as a musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
office/studio space for lessons; spinet piano; electronic equipment available to play cassettes, CDs, videos, and DVDs either from my own library or yours to assist and/or augment the lessons

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my piano students to own either a 3-4 octave keyboard, or a piano. They are also required to purchase any necessary materials (books, flashcards, etc.). I provide supplemental materials (teaching games, etc.).

*** Specialties ***
I use a variety of methods, mostly based on the goals of the students. For piano students, I prefer the Bastien Piano Basics method books. For voice student, I use a combination of methods developed by several different voice instructors.

Just had my first lesson and it went great! Janet is just the kind of teacher I was looking for. I am 67 and play the piano, but had not played in a long time. I want to get back to it and also learn some music theory which I never had. She is super nice, and makes you feel really relaxed. It was a very positive experience and I am looking forward to my lessons!

Jay E.

Indianapolis, IN

About Jay

My musical journey began the with piano at the age of seven. I took regular lesson all the way through high school, eventually performing works such as Gershwin Etudes, Chopin Waltzes, Debussy Arabesques, and Beethoven Piano Sonatas. My trumpet performing started in 1993 and continues, having earned two degrees in trumpet performance, and performed with groups such as the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and Lone Star Wind Orchestra.

I have been teaching privately for 13 years, most recently having a studio of around 50 students in the Dallas area, where my students have performed at even
ts such as the state solo and ensemble contest in Austin, and it groups such as the Texas All State Band, and Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra to name a few. I now continue my private lesson instruction in Indianapolis. I have learned to adjust my teaching technique to match each individual, whether it be the music difficulty, learning pace, or musical genre preference. I have taught trumpet students of all ages and abilities, as well as beginning and intermediate piano and french horn. I look forward to helping you make beautiful music on your instrument!

My teaching philosophy

Private lessons are a one on one experience that give students guidance on their specific musical needs. Rather than only working on pieces for un upcoming audition or competition, I emphasize working on a variety of repertoire that will improve all aspects of one’s musicianship. Lessons are not a weekly practice or coaching session, but rather a time for me to help students with what they have already been practicing. More specifically, I help with embouchure formation, tone production, note reading, practice technique, musical phrasing, breathing, performance anxiety, rhythm, music theory, bad habits, or anything that will help the student make better music in the long term. I also frequently provide musical examples and inspiration by playing for my students.

Lesson Policies

Students are required to practice a minimum of fifteen to forty-five minutes per day (depending on the student’s age), six days per week.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own lesson materials, such as books, valve oil, metronome, etc. Piano students must also have a well maintained piano to practice on. High quality electric keyboards with all 88 weighted and touch sensitive keys are acceptable.

I have a 24-hour lesson rescheduling policy. If a student fails to provide notice via phone call, text or email at least 24 hours prior to the starting time of the lesson, or misses a lesson unannounced, the student will be charged for the full lesson cost. If adequate notification is given, the lesson will be made up at a later date. Lessons may not be missed without rescheduling, except for the months of December, July, and August. During any or all of these months, due to holidays and vacations, students may miss one lesson without rescheduling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Clavinova keyboard with weighted keys

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide no equipment

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical, jazz, and commercial, having experience in all three areas. I teach a lot of ear training and music theory regardless of the instrument.

Josh L.

Indianapolis, IN

About Josh

I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically voice.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 16 years, and contempora
ry keyboard for 7 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

As a professional recording artist I frequently take trips to Nashville for co-writing, recording, and meeting with record labels. I have written with well-known writers like Mia Fieldes from Hillsong, Tony Wood from Provident Label Group, Stu G from Delirious?, and Jon Steingard from Hawk Nelson. I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic songwriters.

My personal passion is contemporary music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

GREAT TEACHER!!!!

I am currently taking online Piano lessons from Josh.
(With the emphasis being on Christian music)

So far it has been a great experience. Josh is a super cool guy and has very calm, easy-going, and joyful personality. All these things combined make for a pleasant environment.

I have not taken any piano lessons before Josh (I was very much at the beginner level when I started my lesson). Josh did a great job of easing me into the piano without overwhelming me with information and/or techniques.

With his background, I feel like Josh is over-qualified to teach the piano - especially to beginners like myself, but he did a great job of teaching the basics and moving to more advanced techniques based on my skill level and the way I was progressing.

He also did a great job of challenging me to take my piano lessons to the next level without overwhelming me. He has definitely helped out tremendously in helping me learn the piano thus far and highly recommend him as a teacher.

He has a great structure to the course but also leaves room for the student to give input on things that they may want to learn, such as: songs, techniques, etc.

Additionally, he has done a great job of making the piano make sense. For example, sometimes I can get lost with all the different ways to play a chord, but he helped explain it in simple terms that makes sense.

I have learned so much from Josh in such a short amount of time and like I said, I highly recommend you take him as your teacher.. Great Teacher!

Josh is a student of his craft. He works hard to be the best and is great at teaching others to be excellent as well. He has a very creative approach to teaching and understands a lot of different styles. I have taken years worth of lessons and as an improv type artist myself, Josh has helped teach me a number of elements that were outside my knowledge base. Solid guy and a solid instructor.

Mr. Josh L. was incredibly helpful in my development as a vocalist. His demeanor was perfect in instructing me during our sessions by being very picky in technique but never intimidating. It was refreshing to take lessons from someone who is able to teach from experience and not just from some backyard choir.
