I am an accomplished vocal coach and songwriter and currently work with a wide variety of singers from young beginners to professionals who look to develop through ear training, singing and songwriting. In a unique way I guide people to become better performers and musicians through the combination of voice, piano and composition.

About Robert
Creativity, skill and love of music are the key elements that I work to encourage in every student. Over the years my teaching has evolved and I find it gratifying to take people far beyond their own expectations while helping them achieve their goals. I believe everyone is musical and just needs the right key to tap into their own creativity.

For beginners it's important to study with an excellent teacher. Setting a solid and creative foundation makes all the difference!
For advanced players studying with a great artist takes you greater artistry.

Weekly private lessons focus on technical skills in either piano, voice (or a combination of both) and a strong musical foundation. Theory and Ear Training are fundamentals that are embedded in this approach to developing a complete musician and artist.

I have over 20 years exper
ience working with students as young as 3 and old as 85! Often multiple generations in a family study together making for a rich family experience.

Performance opportunities: Recitals, Concerts Cabarets and Musicals are a part of developing into a musician and singer and enhancing a love of music that will last a lifetime!

Piano - Classical, Jazz, Blues and Improvisation. Current students are beginners to professional musicians and music teachers.

Voice – I am an accomplished vocal coach and songwriter and currently work with a wide variety of singers from young beginners to professionals who look to develop through ear training, singing and songwriting. In a unique way I guide people to become better performers and musicians through the combination of voice, piano and composition.

I work with students as young as 3 or 4 and into their 80’s. It’s important to begin with an excellent teacher from the start to set a good foundation and to have the ability to develop as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I enjoy working with beginners as well as accomplished musicians. I also believe that music is one of the great joys of life and that lessons should be FUN!

Besides a wide variety of performance opportunities through my Family to Family Concerts, I also offer my students the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, a gold standard music curriculum.. The ABRSM is accredited in over 100 countries worldwide and exams are offered twice per year in all instruments and voice.

A message from Robert: Hello, I am a master teacher focusing on the classical repertoire along with a very creative approach to improvisation and composition. I help students to achieve their interests of music rather than focusing on teaching one particular method. Classes are tailored to the student and constantly evolving. This has led me to work in a variety of mediums and styles including Jazz, improvisation, rock and blues. This approach also enhances an understanding and love of classical music.
I also guide my students in the curriculum and exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. (ABRSM) Exams are offered twice per year.
I have also found it inspiring to work with people with disabilities and help them find a way to express themselves musically. I give lectures and workshops in the area and around the country on improvisation and creativity along with concerts of my own music.
I also work with a number of students in vocal coaching and accompanying.
New this year are seminars in songwriting for adults and children. Groups of 4-5 collaborate on new songs. Film and video composition coming soon!

I just had my first piano lesson with Robert where he worked to improve my piano playing technique as well as expand my skills into other areas such as improvisation. The lesson went very well. I look froward to expanding my skills in future lessons.

Robert is a very fun teacher who helped me relax, which is really important. He focused on the very areas I want to work on, and while this was only my first lesson, I feel like I’ll be making great progress. He’s also a very good musician, which is extremely important to me.

About Julia
I have been studying music and performing professionally since the age of nine in New York City. In 2007 I started teaching voice, guitar and songwriting in Southern California and performing original music with my band. In 2010 I co-founded the Creative Arts Initiative, a literacy-based program for teenage girls in Sierra Leone, West Africa that encourages self-expression and empowerment through creative writing and the arts.
As a kid, I performed off-Broadway and took voice and piano lessons. The problem was that I hated practicing! Scales and repetitive playing bored me to no end, and I felt like I wanted to quit many time. But when I started combining my poetry with my own music, and keeping my body engaged in the process, my life was forever changed. I felt a deeper understanding of my own voice and the possibilities that musical i
nstruments offered me. I allowed myself the freedom to pursue my love of music by embracing my own innate abilities and favorite ways to learn. I overcame my €œpracticing problem, and so can you.

*** Lesson Details ***
As your music mentor I will help you identify your own learning style, review your individual goals, build a sequential, skill-based program and customize each session based upon what you need and want from the music mentoring experience. I will allow you to explore your own innate creativity, to have fun with your instrument and see where it takes you while learning valuable music theory along the way. Let me help you reach your highest potential by pumping enthusiasm into your veins and encourage you to explore your inner artist.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in "creative learning". This is where the students are encouraged to create their own music right from the beginning, using whatever little knowledge they have on the instrument, and then we break down what they've created in order to get a deeper understanding of the music (theory, technique, etc.).

I work with beginner students to teach them the fundamentals of singing. I like to use a range of music that is both customized to the individuals interested yet still presents and educational challenge for the student. During the lessons I focus on proper posture and technique, note recognition, ear training, and harmony in order to enable my students to have proper control and a solid understanding of their voice.

About Taryn
I am a University of Hawaii Piano Performance Major with a training emphasis in classical piano. I have taken multiple AMEB piano examinations, as well as performed in various recitals, culminating in an undergraduate music certification. I have been playing for 20 years, working with a variety of musical and performance styles, including individual performance, accompaniment, and musical collaboration. These experiences have given me the skills to tackle and communicate musical themes and ideas to students with a range of learning styles and needs, from beginning to advanced, classical to leisure.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very dependent upon the need of the individual student. I believe that each person learns differently, and different people require unique methods of communication (visual, aural, descriptive), as
well as structure of classes. In addition, I understand that students are hoping to gain different things from learning any instrument. Given this, I really try to cater to what a student wants, and how they learn best. However, I also believe that no student can learn and advance without an understanding of theory and development of technique. I generally use the Piano Adventures curriculum with my beginning students, however for intermediate and advanced students, I prefer to allow more freedom in the pieces that are learned. While studying with me, you can expect to develop technique through the study of classical music, gain an advanced understanding of music theory, and develop the ability to not only play well, but to perform well too!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright Yamaha piano in common area w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the piano or keyboard for practicing. The students should be responsible for getting the proper music books necessary for teaching.

*** Specialties ***
The genre I am most experience with is classical music.

When I first begin teaching a student, I tell them that everyone has the ability to sing well no matter his or her experience. I also tell them that there are four things that a good singer must have: breathe control (air is your fuel, and must be used efficiently and effectively to give you the best sound), posture (in order to have access to your air and prevent vocal damage you must practice good posture habits), diction (how you pronounce words when singing can impede or improve vocal tone, as well as help or hinder the audience in understanding the lyrics) and finally and most importantly, passion. Passion is how emotionally connected you are to music and is what really allows the singer to connect with his or her audience.

About Rosalind
Hello! My name is Rosalind and I believing in teaching music lessons that go the extra mile. Students and parents can expect excellence in customer service that goes beyond their weekly lessons.

-I help students find and prepare for performance opportunities and I attend student performances

-I select one student a month to participate in our student showcase, featuring them in my newsletter

-I host twice a ye
ar recitals where students can show off their new skills

-I bring all materials to lessons for your convenience (excluding piano)

-every student gets a "new student kit" at their first lesson including a list of performance opportunities and a vocal health guide for singers

-weekly instructional videos for voice sent

-weekly links to articles about music and the brain

-I respond to student concerns and questions within 24 hours

I welcome students of all ages and work hard to make music accessible for everyone.

-Young kids in voice can expect their lessons to be fun and educational including using visual tools like scarves and shakers, and imaginative play to learn vocal techniques needed to sing on pitch and with proper breathe control.

-Children in piano lessons will learn music theory and piano technique through simple songwriting exercises, theory games, visual tools and more. They will learn about composer's lives and musical styles, providing them with a well-rounded lesson experience.

-Older children and adult singers can expect to learn about their vocal anatomy in order to better control of their voice and become independent during practice sessions at home. They will learn how to improve breathe control, posture and diction. Time during lessons will also be dedicated to developing stage presence and discussing vocal health. Singers will be allowed to select repertoire from the genre of their choice. They can also learn how to harmonize and sight-sing in lessons if they would like.

-I teach beginning guitar students and help them learn how to play with proper technique and accompany themselves when singing. These students learn to read staff and tab and shape different chords on the guitar. I use theory games and visual tools for kids to make lessons fun

-Music theory/composition students will be taught how to read and write music. Students will be invited to improvise on the piano and record their improvisations. They will be taught how to sight-sing in order to learn how to notate any melodies in their head
They will learn how music has changed and been influenced throughout history. They will learn how to read lead sheets and use stylistic invariants in their playing. They will be provided with honest feedback and constructive help on their compositions. They will learn how the human brain processes music and how best to capitalize upon this process for the greatest audience appeal.

-I have experience teaching students with special needs and adjusting lessons to help them meet their goals.

About me!

I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum  who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a  Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.

I also have my own parent/child music class I host every Thursday September-May. It's never to early to start a music education!

I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!

I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development.  My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studios are equipped with keyboard, guitar or piano, as well as a sizable repertoire of classical, broadway and popular music. ' I also have a mirror for voice students to see how their body is moving when singing and visual tools for students like scarves, whiteboard, markers, crayons...ect. I am more than happy to help students find any music they may need for lessons that is not already in my library.

I recommend the following books for piano students (listed by age):
Ages 4-6:
My First Piano Adventure, Lesson Book A with by Nancy & Randall Faber
Ages 6-12:Piano Adventures - Level 1: Lesson Book [Book]Faber Piano Adventures

Many of my students are students who have gone on to score lead roles in their schools or community theater performances, as well as lead singers of local bands looking to improve their techniques and improve their vocal health.

I specialize in theory and sight-reading for piano and theory students.

I also specialize in teaching those with special needs.

She is great!!! She is patient funny and talented! she made me feel at home. She is an avid teacher for her students learning how to breathe and I understand because that was one of my most challenging things to learn since I have been doing it wrong all this time. Since then I sing soooo much better from holding my notes longer and using my air to manipulate the sound i want. You won't be disappointed you just have to put the work in. She also helped me with my speech since I have a podcast and everything has improved. Get her now!!!

Max holds a BA in Classical Vocal Performance, but enjoys all genres. In addition to performing with professional choral ensembles around the country and doing occasional solo work, Max also enjoys singing folk and R&B. Lessons focus on body mechanics, musicality, ear training, and music reading.

About Max
Come learn a first, second, or even third instrument! In addition to voice, Max specializes in multi-instrumentalism and fluency between genres. Many of Max's students learn at least two instruments, and for very good reason! Learning multiple instruments (and styles/genres) increases one's musical ability and understanding of the big picture in ways that a single focus simply can't. It's comparable to learning multiple languages. There's also time and a place to buckle down on technique and to focus on one thing exclusively, and Max is mindful of this as well. In his lessons, he creates new exercises to address each student's specific needs and keeps the focus narrow enough to avoid a distracting information overload.

Most importantly, Max teaches through questions, in the spirit of "teach a man to fish...." This allows students
to gain a degree of self sufficiency and an appetite for discovery. Lessons are fun, personal, efficient (and at times, just inefficient enough to feel comfy), and relaxed. Max's teaching space features classic instruments and amps, including a vintage Fender Rhodes, and a full featured recording studio. It's a perfect environment for learning and creativity, and it's also a short walk to all of Hampden's best shops and restaurants.

Outside of teaching, Max actively performs as a classical/early music singer, and does regular session work on vocals, bass, guitar, trumpet, and keys. He also composes for film, and runs a mobile recording business specializing in classical, acoustic, and jazz. His work has taken him both around the country and overseas.
