Learning to play the piano was a lifelong dream of mine. I’ve been taking lessons from Janet now for five years. As an “adult” student starting from scratch, I was concerned that I would never really be able to understand music or become truly competent. When I look back to where I started from and how far I’ve come, I’m amazed. Janet is truly a genius at teaching. She makes difficult concepts easy to understand. And she truly understands the challenges of the adult learner. But learning is always enjoyable, never stressful. I look forward to my lessons and even my at-home practicing sessions. It’s become a kind of therapy for me! I would recommend Janet and the Fine Arts Music School to any who is serious about learning to play the piano.

Janet has been an amazing resource for our family. Her patience and ability to work with young kids is exceptional.
I am an adult who learned piano for 2 years when I was little before quitting. I wanted to regain my skills and Janet has been helping me do that. She’s fantastic, kind, flexible and encouraging! She reminded me to enjoy the music while at the same time challenging me to improve my skills to the next level I couldn’t be more excited !!

The Suzuki movement changed the face of music education mid-20th century. Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki wanted an accessible lesson style for young children that stressed a positive, nurturing environment mimicking the way an infant learns their native language.

From Suzuki himself: "I want to make good citizens. If a child hears fine music from the day of his birth and learns to play it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline and endurance. He gets a beautiful heart."

Anna is a registered teacher for the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

About Anna

I have a passion for training cellists to a high level of musicianship. I have mentored cellists from the first lesson through professional symphony auditions. I am certified with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and know the Suzuki Method intimately through growing up with the method myself

Anna is an extremely talented cellist. She plays with virtuosic technique, and she has great musical instincts. She has experience working with students from many backgrounds. She is patient, flexible, and energetic, and though I know her in a professional context, from what I've heard these traits certainly carry over into her teaching.
Wonderful teacher! She explains techniques in a way that is readily understood. I had previously struggled with certain learning curves where I'd hit a wall, and she helped me through them. She teaches with joy and passion!

I have been performing music almost as long as I have been walking and talking. My parents are both professional musicians, and they started me out on piano when I was 2 and then violin when I was 3-4. I started flute at 8 years old, and haven't stopped performing on it since. I also play alto saxophone, clarinet, recorder, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute, and I sing opera professionally.

I have performed with a variety of musical ensembles at a professional level: large ensembles such as orchestras and wind ensembles, chamber music groups including wind quintet, string quartet, and many trios and duos, and as a soloist.

I have been through hundreds of auditions, panels, workshops, masterclasses, and competitions, and I've gotten very familiar with the process of performing at a high level.

I would love to coach you on how to prepare for and excel in whatever performance you have coming up, whether it's an instrument I play or not!

About Abigail

I have a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from San Francisco State University, and have over 20 years of experience performing on the flute. I also have extensive experience teaching and coaching, and have worked with students of all ages and experience levels. I offer 30, 45, and 60

"I have been taking online lessons with Ms. Lana for many years. I absolutely love it! Lana is an awesome teacher. She is very knowledgeable, professional, patient, fun, friendly and is a great piano player. It's so much easier for me to take lessons online as I am a working mom. She has helped me to read notes very well. I would definitely recommend Lana to anyone. I always get compliments when I play the piano. Lana is also now teaching my son and he absolutely loves it! He has learned how to play the piano and read notes in no time and everyone absolutely adores how he plays the piano!"

"Lessons with William are worth every penny! William came as a recommendation from a group of professional musicians - that's like getting advice on buying a car from a Formula 1 driver! William understands that music is truly a language you learn to speak fluently. It takes hard work, persistence, and the ability to develop the character it takes to do something really difficult! He not only has developed the skill of reading and playing music, but he knows how to make someone the best version of themselves. William is a part of our family and his influence is a life long blessing."

"I told Paul that my goal is to be able to pick up the guitar at home or with friends and feel comfortable playing along. After 4 lessons I'm playing 12 bar blues, comfortable with several scales, and even writing my own chord progressions. Not only a good teacher he's been very accommodating to my work/travel schedule."

"My son started with Mr. Gallo at the beginning of summer and we have decided to continue into the school year. He can easily read each students musical ability and creates a lesson plan accordingly. His critiques, while kindly, are thorough as he strives to get the best out of students.
My son enjoys the lessons and has improved in sound quality and technique. Web based lessons have worked out great for us as my son plays the tuba. Mr. Gallo has been flexible with the schedule which we appreciate. We highly recommend Mr. Gallo and the Take Lessons website/platform."

She has helped me overcome so many problem areas in my voice in just a few short weeks— I definitely have more work to do with her, but I’ve haven’t been this excited to sing in such a long time. Her approach to technique is freeing up my higher notes, and her teaching style makes it so easy to understand my voice and what the exercises are doing for it. Tania’s amazing!"
