I offer 24 years of experience playing, and 17 years teaching privately and as a public school band director. My curriculum focuses on technique, theory, style, and interpretation.

To develop quality drumming technique, an emphasis on playing position, grip, and sticking is incorporated in each portion of a given lesson.

The importance of theory and rudiments is outlined and taught with each lesson. A challenging assignment to improve technical ability and music theory knowledge directly correlated to the assigned repertoire will help students understand the structure of the music they are practicing.

Students will dedicate practice time to both rudimental drumming and set drumming. Demonstrating the highest level of performance and knowledge of a piece is the desired result. A portion of each lesson is also dedicated to students learning the various styles on the drum set.

Sound is the key. Developing and nurturing a solid sound opens up all other aspects of music. Once we have a solid sound we can depend on everything we play is more effective.
I teach basic musicianship along with advanced sound production techniques.
Spontaneous creation and composition. I can help you freely improvise in any situation and become a functionary player as well as a soloist.

I will teach you theory so that you can better understand the music you play and hear. I tend to focus on finding ways to apply the theory we focus on so that you can be more creative in music that you create. Whatever you'd like to focus on, from the basics of chords all the way through complex harmonic substitutions or 12-tone set theory, I can help you learn and understand music in a way that will hopefully enrich your experience with music!

I have been teaching and singing professionally for 10 years and hold a Master of Music degree in vocal performance and pedagogy. My teaching philosophy centers on healthy vocal technique grounded in proper breath support and vocal placement. I believe that once this is established, the principles can be applied to any genre of music you wish to sing! Classical, musical theatre, jazz, pop, you name it! I want my students to be proud of their unique vocal capabilities and have the confidence to share it whenever they step on stage.

We will cover music theory, technique, and getting to know the fingerboard, or I can teach you a specific song of your choice written out in tab.
Ideally both will be covered so you can learn the mechanics behind the music that you love to play!
