I can work with you on mallet technique (marimba, xylophone, bells, vibraphone, etc.) and help you learn from classical/orchestral, pop, and jazz literature. I can also assist you with learning orchestral snare drum technique. We can work on learning orchestral repertoire as well. A few of the books I use are the Modern School for Xylophone, Marimba, and Vibraphone (Goldenberg), Modern Method for Tympani (Goodman), and Stick Control (Stone). Please see my bio (the "About" section) for my orchestral experience.

Stephen has been a great piano teacher. Both my boys take lessons from him and they enjoy it bery much. He is very clear about what they need to learn. His lessons are well planned and he’s flexible with the learning styles of each student. Sometime we even called him and asked questions after the lessons and he’s very generous and nice to have spent the time to explain things to the boys over the phone.

I've been studying piano with Steve for about a year. I could not be happier with my progress. Steve not only tunes right in to my needs but makes the discipline fun. He is a talented musician, and it's obvious he enjoys teaching music. I feel very fortunate to have him as my teacher.
Elisha
I had my first lesson with Stephen today and he is an awesome teacher. I've been teaching myself for the last couple of years and was very nervous about playing in front of anyone. He made me feel very comfortable and picked up my needs quickly. He's very flexible and patient. I have full confidence that he will take me to the next level of reading, performing and theory. I'm exited to have found Stephen and look forward to my next lesson.

As a Music Composition alum from esteemed school California Institute of the Arts, I want to instill upon my students the same joy and excitement towards composing that I felt when I was a student. For all students we will start by listening to compositions in the style of music you would want to create as well as other areas that may interest you. I think that exploring different genres is integral to a well-rounded music education so I would bring a variety of different influences to lessons. As we progress, I would teach notation on software such as Sibelius and Dorico as well as hand notation, graphic scores, and text scores. If students are interested in electronic composition and production, I work with Ableton Live and Logic Pro X. Looking forward to working with you!

I have been very fortunate to have had some incredible teachers over the years - George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Billy Kilson, Ed Tomassi, Shannon LeClaire, and many others - and I know how much of a difference the right teacher can make.

I love to teach, and have been teaching both privately and in a school setting, as a band director, for many years. I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Whether you want to learn how to read music, improve your technique, work on your sound, practice the fundamentals, develop your soloing, or all of the above, I can help take you to the next level.

I hope to work with you!

I look forward to my lessons with Dan every week. I’m a beginner alto player and Dan does a great job patiently answering all my questions and giving comprehensive advice. He’s very analytical and gives you the detailed context of why what you’re learning is important and how it fits into the context of playing in a band, different styles etc. He will flex lessons based on what you need to know but also what you’re interested in. Most importantly he’s fun and just an all around great guy. He’s the man, what else can I say.

Dan is kind and caring. He was very patient going over the super basics with a brand-new player! He gave good, clear instruction, and is focused on mastering the fundamentals so players can start with good habits and good sound, and so players can make future advancements more smoothly.
Lenka
Dan is a fountain of knowledge; an incredibly talented and eclectic artist. I have been struggling with alto sax for years but with Dan’s approach, I finally feel, I am making some progress. Dan tailors the lessons to fit your needs; making it challenging, comprehensive, engaging and fun. He helps me transcribe small parts of licks I like, which has been an invaluable experience for me. He makes sure that you REALLY get the material you are studying. Don’t just shake your head and say “yes”.
He is always there to answer your questions (no matter how dumb they may seem), encourages and motivates you.

"Bill is a fantastic teacher, and has been extremely helpful in coaching me for orchestral auditions, and in working with me on solo repertoire. He has helped me improve my overall trumpet-playing, and is always coming up with new exercises ways to think about practicing technique, especially relating to sound concept and efficient playing. He has presented many different solutions and approaches to tackle any issues I've had with my playing depending on what I'm working on, ranging from articulation to expanding my high range, and everything in between. He sets a great example with his excellent playing as well, and it is useful to hear his musical ideas on the pieces and excerpts that we work on. I would highly recommend getting a lesson with Bill!"
