About Luke
I majored in music at Berea College, then went on to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I completed a Masters degree in guitar performance and served as the graduate assistant to the guitar department.

For the past ten years I have earned a living performing and teaching guitar. I am a certified Suzuki instructor, and I've held teaching positions at Winston Salem State University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with at least half a dozen other schools and institutions. I've been featured on other artists' records, and received a grant to release an album of my own songs. I regularly perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles.

I love to teach, and over the years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of lessons. Having learned something from each and every one
of my students, I am now at a point where I excel at honing in on the individual interests and learning styles of whoever comes to me for help. There are many ways to learn guitar. The best one is the one that engages and inspires you the most. That said, there are also music fundamentals that we all need to know. My joy as a teacher lies in finding a way for you to master the fundamentals while at the same time following your personal bliss and intuition. We plot the course together, combining your curiosity and enthusiasm with my years of experience.

I also love working with kids. While they are having fun jamming, I discretely provide them with the technique and musicianship they'll need to excel in any musical environment, whether it's conservatory study or playing in a great band.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your enthusiasm is the key to your success, so my lessons are tailored to the interests and abilities of each student. That said, my classical background and dedication to effective teaching inform everything I do.

All of my students learn Music Fundamentals:
-Technique (habits of movement)
-Theory (how music works)
-Aural skills (hearing pitches, chords and rhythms clearly)

Many of my students use books. There are hundreds of great books these days, and I will work with students from any book they choose. Listed here are the books I regularly use. They all deliver great results:

-Aaron Shearer "Leaning The Classic Guitar"
-Will Schmidt and Greg Koch "The Hal Leonard Method"
-Joe Pecoraro "Read This First"
-David Oaks "Music Reading For Guitar"
-William Leavitt "A Modern Method For Guitar"
-Mateo Carcassi "Melodic and Progressive Studies, Opus 60"
-Leo Brouwer "Simple Studies"

Many of my students prefer to work without a book, and that is a great option too. These students learn scales, chords and theory and develop a repertoire of songs. I will show you how to play any song you'd like to learn. You can also work on writing your own songs or compositions, or improvising in any context, be it jazz, blues, Indian raga or flamenco.

Singing is also encouraged!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: music stands, extensive library of all kinds of music, great sound system and ability to stream any song, several guitars, recording equipment, footstools, keyboard and percussion instruments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I'll bring my guitar and books, accessories as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in versatility. I regularly play gigs doing classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and world music. All of these genres have a place in my heart, and I've devoted years to learning to play and teach them well.

I am equally polyamorous when it comes to the various things musicians do. I love to sing pop songs, dissect jazz lines, delve into expressive groupings with classical pieces, drill scales and arpeggios, you name it. Reading, improvising, composing and notating, transcribing and playing by ear, memorization, classical technique, blues technique, bluegrass technique, theoretical analysis... hit me up for any of that, or whatever else interests you.

My son is 12 years old and prior to starting lessons with Luke had never played the guitar at all. Luke is a very patient and knowledgeable instructor. He communicates well and tailors each session to the student's learning status. We are 3 lessons in and I'm very impressed so far. Thanks Luke!!!

About Ken
I was born and raised in the Mid-Western US where I played and performed in several circuit bands, some which received record contracts! I also have 2 national product endorsements. After 10 years of playing in the mid-west, I then set my eyes on the Southern US where I currently resides and performs. I have over 27 years of total experience in the industry. This experience includes guitars, equipment, booking, marketing, effects, amplifiers, recording and live music mixing. I have hands-on experience in many musical styles such as Rock, Heavy Metal, Pop, R&B, Country, Top 40, Funk and Folk music.

Over the past 10 years, I have started my teaching practice and I've taught students who range from 7 years of age and up. The one thing I have learned is that lessons absolutely have to be fun! I target each student’s lessons to uniquely foll
ow your goals and get YOU to where you want to be.

Some of my guitar influences are Van Halen, Steve Vai, ACDC, Guns ‘n Roses, Led Zeppelin and James Brown just to name a few. I've shared the stage with Eddie Money, David Lee Roth, Great White and several other national touring artists. I have a passion for music and love to share this with others willing to learn the instrument.

*** Lesson Details ***
Some example lessons would be as follows:

I target each student uniquely. No cookie-cutter lesson plans! I learn your short and long-terms goals and set the lesson material appropriately to help the student achieve their goals. Lessons absolutely have to be fun, so if you like to laugh and have a good time while learning guitar, this is right up your alley!

I use both written and media formats for my lessons. For example, the written material may include chords, modes or scales while the MP3 files (which I send via email) will cover the application of this material and can be used by the student for reference at home. Often the MP3 files include the material performed at a very slow speed and then again at normal speed to help the student understand the lesson and material.

All you need is a positive attitude and a desire to make music and you will be able to do it with a smile!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Studio: couches, music stands, recording equipment, amps and guitars, chord diagrams, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a guitar for the lessons although I expect that the student will need one of their own to practice

*** Specialties ***
Rock Guitar, Pop, Top 40

Hi! I'm Heather and I have been teaching music since the early 2000s. I grew up studying voice and piano because my mother is a voice and piano teacher! I have had lots of choral, solo, and operatic experience. I went to the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. One thing I am passionate about is helping you learn music you are excited about! Studying music doesn't have to all be "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and rigorous exercises. I want to help you get better at what YOU love! Classical technique can be applied to any genre! I am excited about helping you achieve your goals!

About Jason
I first began teaching when I was in undergraduate school as a music major. I was a teaching assistant for an introduction to music theory class. It was always encouraging for me to see people grow in their understanding of music and to apply that knowledge in a meaningful way. From that point on, I sought for further opportunities to teach others the wonders of music and how it could transform their life in such a meaningful way. This led me to work at a piano store near to the college as a beginner piano instructor and teaching guitar, bass guitar, and piano on my own through private instruction.

I've always saw teaching as an opportunity to share with others what was given to me in a judgment free way. I also know for myself that people learn in different ways and at a different pace. Because of that, I always take each student fro
m where they're at and help them to grow in a way that is most natural for them. This helps the learning process become really enjoyable, which often results in retaining what we learn.

As for me, I began playing guitar at the ripe old age of 13. Later on, I picked up other instruments as well. I currently play for two different bands and take great pride and joy in doing so. I am also a lifelong learner and to continue to grow in my studies of music. It is my belief that as long as we are alive, it is an opportunity to grow. Won't you therefore join with me as we grow together in this journey of understanding.

One of the lasting joys of life is being able to sit down in your living room alone and play your guitar or keyboard. And you can play for the rest of your life. Now that is a bargain. Jason Menagio can help you make that dream come true with his passion for playing and teaching. Once you get that wonderful feeling of accomplishment that accompanies learning to play music, just like a hole in one on the golf course, no one can take it away. I have taught for 50 years and recognize in Jason a unique ability to not only teach the fundamentals, understand the psychology behind it, but also to feel the passion of music. That sets him apart.

I teach all ages and levels.

For my beginner adult students I can have you playing your favorite song (with both hands) in just a matter of weeks. As for my beginner little kids I use the FJH company curriculum so that they will become well rounded pianist.

Also, I'm able to teach anyone that has a natural ear for playing.

I homeducreated my kids for 16 years so from that experience I'm able to bring a very customized learning atmosphere to each student.

Online lessons are available but I do not travel to homes.

Please, contact me for specific scheduling.

Teaching piano is my passion. Within the first few lessons you will start reading music. As you continue you will learn introductory classical pieces. As you progress, you will be given opportunities to choose pieces that you want to play. I teach using the Bastien book series, but customize each lesson to suit your needs. Depending on your interest level, we can explore composing and songwriting. Twice a year, you'll get to showcase your talents on recital.

I taught piano to K-12 aged children in the Ballantyne Area of Charlotte, North Carolina, from December 2013 until September 2016. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching all the precious children in my care.

I love teaching kids of all ages, starting at 4 (depending on child) and up through 18. My biggest thrill is when I see a child's eyes light up and I "see the light bulb come on",
that they have grasped what it is I am trying to teach them.

I became a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society in 1992, partially as a result of my piano composition "Melancholy", which is also registered with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers).

I don't just teach mechanical playing and reading skills. I try to go the extra mile and teach children the "why" behind the music, including music theory, harmony, composition techniques and music history. I also like to teach, when appropriate, chords, chord progressions, and how to incorporate them, even into their own compositions.

I earned by Bachelor of Music Education in 1993 from East Carolina University. I majored in voice (high baritone, not quite a tenor) and minored in piano.

My final grade point average was 3.64 and course work included four years of voice lessons and a senior recital that counted for 8 semester hours! My professor considered me an "anomaly" as French was the language I was best at singing and pronouncing.

I look back on my college days with fondness and have no regrets whatsoever. The music skills I learned have helped me in all walks of life.

I am a member of ASCAP since 2006.

Roger taught my son Max for over two years, took him from finding middle C to advanced Mozart, Bach and other music that Max selected. Roger's musical knowledge is extreme and he will adapt his teaching style to individual learning personalities. When Max had some less enthusiastic or frustrated moments, Roger would make every effort to re-motivate him with positive encouragement and by finding fresh music that inspired him. Max is an absolute pleasure to listen to on the piano now. So is Roger by the way if you can catch him playing some of his favorites between lessons :) Recommend as highly as possible!
