I am a graduate of Cal Poly Ponoma University with a BA degree in voice. I have 20+ year experience teaching voice and piano. Building people is my passion and commitment. I am a working artist in the music field as a vocalist, conductor, and motivating speaker.

I love to come alongside a singer and help them achieve whatever their goals are, whether they are interested in learning songs they hear on the radio, developing their own songs, or are interested in studying classical music! Within the first few lessons, you will be able to understand proper breathing and resonance technique and over time you will be able to use those techniques to increase your range, tone, and volume. Each lessons consist of a short warm-up period which focuses solely on technique and then a period to work on songs, developing technique, expressivity, and overall performance. For singers interested in classical music, I have a strong classical background and familiarity with French, German, and Italian song literature. I enjoy teaching those with experience and newbies alike! I look forward to working with you!

A certain degree of music theory is recommended for this subject, but not required based on student preference. I have over 20 years experience and professional training that tailors the instruction to the weaknesses and strengths of each student.

About Matt
With most of my music students, we focus on several key areas to ensure success of overall technique and knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-READING, and PREPARED SONGS. I tailor my approach and style to each student. Although I'm very detail-oriented with lessons and followup, I'm constantly in search of finding FUN ways to make sure the student is enjoying the journey. I also prefer to work on a song that the STUDENT wants to learn. It's music, and it should be fun!

Please review the rest of my profile and send me any questions or concerns you may have. If I don't think I can be the best teacher for you, I will gladly refer you to someone else on Takelessons or elsewhere.

I've been a lifelong musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before,
and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My professional experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me an open-minded yet direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW to develop each student's individual skills. I'm able to teach most students to an advanced level.

As an award-winning singer-songwriter, I have been teaching singing for 4 years. My teaching focuses on finding your own unique voice. In first few lessons, you will learn how to access each of your different resonators (and what they are!), how to properly use the 360-degree breathing method, and how to access your most grounded self in order to clearly define your goals. Through this self-discovery process and use of proper technique, your expression through singing will come to life!

About Ellysa
Hello! My name is Ellysa and I am so excited to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2012 and have loved helping my students realize their potential, gain confidence, and find their own voice. I have been trained in the LAMDA system, as well attending Interlochen Arts Academy. I'm an energetic and empathetic person; my strong perceptive skills allow me to adapt to each of my student's individual needs. While we'll definitely cover the technical aspects of what you're learning, my teaching is very much rooted in who you are and letting your own voice out, whether it be through singing, songwriting, or playing an instrument. I can't wait to start this journey with you!

As a professional singer of over a decade, I love the stage more than just about anything. It is a thrilling lifestyle but I am equally inspired every time I am just an audience member. I work with my students towards improving their vocal technique, musicality, and confidence so that they can become the types of performers I enjoy listening to! My background is varied, covering classical music, jazz, and other contemporary styles. This enables me to give input to students with a variety of musical goals. Alongside my experience, I have a neverending quest for deeper and refreshed knowledge of vocal mechanics and pedagogy which helps me guide each student through their unique issues.

About Josef
I am a professional singer new to the Philadelphia area from South Florida. Music has been a lifelong endeavor for me; I am fortunate to have been born into a family of musicians and started my professional career as a boy soprano soloist at the age of eleven, working primarily in the greater Miami area. I've since trained as an operatic baritone, earning my Bachelor of Music degree from Florida Southern College. I am currently working towards a master's degree in Voice Performance at Temple University and look forward to establishing myself as a performer and teacher in the northeast!

I have enjoyed performing in a wide range of environments and genres; Italian opera, jazz, liturgical music, and even a hip-hop/rap promotional for YMCMB are just a few of the things I have put my musical thumbprint on! In my native Florida, I enjoyed te
aching privately and in ensemble settings to children and adults, including beginners and more advanced students. I particularly love working with passionate children, teenagers, and young adults who want to take their musical pursuits to another level, such as to audition for performing arts schools, or become more comfortable and adept in using their constantly growing voices!

While I'm a stickler for perfection, I work in music primarily because I think it's a lot of fun. I strive to foster a learning environment that is enjoyable for my students and prefer teaching methods that are constructive vs. destructive (I don't believe in "building you back up" after tearing you down)! I prioritize HEALTHY use of the voice whether my student is fifteen or fifty: every stage of life poses challenges (and benefits) to the vocal instrument and my specialized study and performing experience aids in me recognizing the good and bad in every singer to help them grow.

My love for music and singing began at a very young age and became a passion when I became involved with musical theater. I've been performing in musicals for over 10 years and have taken voice lessons for 8 years. I play guitar and write songs as well. I enjoy helping voice students understand how to enhance and improve their technique while also accessing areas of the voice that may not yet have been discovered in the student! I strive for a unique connection with each individual student so that they can feel comfortable in their growth and training. I am happy to work with young students who may not have any music experience whatsoever, and also with students who may already have some basic theory/sightreading skills. Singing styles include musical theater and pop/contemporary.

About Alicia
I am a passionate singer, songwriter, and performer from the Bay Area! I am a Chico State student, pursuing a music minor. I have been taking vocal lessons for 8 years and have been performing for over 10. I have performed in venues whilst accompanying myself on guitar and also in many musicals over the years!

Students can expect to learn simple warmups and scales used to lay a healthy foundation for vocal technique that will be applied throughout lessons. A typical lesson would begin with a warmup comprised of vocal exercises varying in difficulty, depending on student skill level, where the focus will be on how to improve technique so that the sounds of the voice come out naturally and without strain. The remainder of the lesson would be spent working on a song chosen by both student and teacher, where technique can be applied and d
emonstrated, while also having fun with a favorite song!

My goal is to help young singers become confident in their ability while also having fun doing something they love!
