I have been teaching flute for almost 20 years. I have a doctorate in flute performance and have done training and extensive research in body mapping and efficiency of body use. I take a very holistic approach to teaching and playing the flute. Each student is a person, an individual unlike anyone else. Every body is unique and therefore will play the flute differently than other flutists. When I teach, I aim to get to know the whole person in order to effectively work with the flutist. I work to get to know how each student learns and processes information. A flutist cannot become a good musician without making the journey their own. My goal is to give every student their own individual path to reach their goals, while also giving them the tools to use in their own teaching of individual flutists. I emphasize these specific areas in my teaching: the physical aspects of flute playing, including playing position and posture, breath control, sound and tone production, projection and ...

Dr. John Ross is an excellent teacher! He helped me take the music I was preparing to record to a whole new level. He has so much knowledge and can present that knowledge in a way that is approachable for students of any level. I am so thankful I got to study with him!!!
Michael
John is an outstanding player and pedagogue. Over a number of years, I've observed John work with students of incredibly diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. With each and every student, John connects with the individual, finding what will help that person rise to their fullest potential as a flute player. Technical progress is a given when studying with John. Additionally, students consistently enter his lessons eager to learn and leave with a renewed drive to grow. I cannot recommend John highly enough.

"I've been a guitar player for a while and have wanted to learn how to sing along with the guitar. Mark has done an excellent job determining where I currently am as a singer and how I can get to where I want to be as a singer. He has started with the basics and explaining to me how you can improve as a singer by making routine out of several exercises. He has done a great job not just explaining what the exercises are, but why they are beneficial to me as a vocalist. After gathering a better sense of my voice, I have started bringing my guitar to lessons and he has helped me immensely to blend my voice with my instrument. Since doing these lessons, I've had the confidence in my voice to start performing at open-mic nights in the Twin Cities and I thank Mark for that! He is wonderful!"

"I started with Scott as a newbie and he has definitely helped me grow as a guitarist. He takes time and makes things easier to learn. As complicated learning can be, he simplifies it and breaks it down. When I feel like I’m not progressing he always shows me how I am. His modules are easy to follow. His teaching style is compatible with all types of learners whether you are visual, hands on or a listener. It’s not just business with him. He’s always available for questions after or between lessons. He’s knowledgeable in equipment so don’t hesitate to ask for some advice on what to buy. He’s affordable and lesson times are flexible. I highly recommend him for all ages and learning needs."
