My goal as an instructor is to keep the lessons fresh, fun, interesting, and to ultimately guide the students to better teach themselves as they gain experience and familiarity with the instrument and music. Students can have their lessons catered to the music and styles they wish to pursue. Lessons are tailored to each individual student so that we can build upon their strengths and focus on lessons to improve weaker areas. Students will learn how to build dexterity, use proper technique, and be creative. Every student has different goals, some really want to learn theory and read music. Others may simply want to learn to strum a few chords. Whatever the goal, I can provide the instructions to help the student succeed!

Very knowledgeable and experienced in not just playing the violin but teaching it as well.

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.

Melaena was great with my 7 year old. Made her feel comfortable and able to open up with ideas and suggestions. She mediated the class well and allowed for all participants’ voices to be heard. Had an amazing end result each class. True treasures we’ll cherish forever.
Thanks for everything Melaena!

Her knowledge of the instrument and expert instruction (as well as her infinite patience!) continue to provide me with the motivation I've needed to overcome some of the challenges I've faced after being away from my instrument for so long. How to Read Sheet Music: Violin Notes for Beginners | TakeLessons

The most valuable skill you can develop as a musician is learning to read music. While it’s possible to learn to play “by ear,” reading music opens up the world to you as an artist! There are many different ways to write music. Guitarists often read off of charts outlining the chord progressions for the song. Drummers have a rhythm chart showing them what to play. As a violinist, however, you'll most likely be reading off of violin sheet music. Standard sheet music is filled with direc …
