I am an emotive cellist with two decades experience. As a member of the Park Quartet (the quartet in residence at Park Church) I recently performed at the 100th anniversary of McGolrick Park. I love sharing classical music with all levels of students. Lessons with me are calm, meditative experiences where we use Zen techniques to enter into the heart of music.

About Lenna P.

Hello cellists! My name is Lenna and I am pleased to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2011 and have loved helping my students improve their tone, learn better sight reading skills, and become more relaxed around their cellos. I studied chamber music for four years under the world famous Chiara Quartet. My favorite books about classical music are: The Art of Practicing and Just Play Naturally. I'm a kind and patient person and my teaching style is focused on comfort and emotional vibrancy in performance. I look forward to guiding you through some wonderful musical experiences.

Lenna is a terrific cello teacher! I feel lucky to have found her through this site. I was starting from zero with the cello and she was able to guide me through the Suzuki book to be able to play some songs -- even sight-reading. While I have a long way to go, I appreciate her focus and dedication to improving my playing skills. Highly recommended!

Lenna is out of this world! When I first undertook, as an adult beginner, to learn the cello, I often found myself frustrated by the challenge. Lenna changed the way I approach my studies. She taught me to FEEL music, to find the beauty in slowing down and repeating, to have patience with my practice and to appreciate my progress. She has improved my rhythm, vibrato, sound quality, knowledge of music theory and more. She is always gentle and supportive during our lessons and approaches learning with a humility I only wish I could have. She likes to end lessons by guiding her students through a few minutes of improv, which I deeply enjoy. A talented cellist (and musician generally); a wonderful instructor; and a kind, supportive, optimistic personality. I love working with Lenna and strongly recommend her.

Lenna is wonderful!!! She is dedicated to her art and her warmness really reassured our family that she was the perfect match. My 8 year-old daughter been having private in home lesson over the passed year and have shown great improvement with even the most challenging piece. She has patience and can differentiate instruction to facilitate my daughter learning style, making it an adventurous.
My daughter would frequently say:"Practice Makes Prefect"
But for Lenna:"Practice Make Progress" because you are forever learning.
She is indeed a humble individual..
I highly recommend Lenna for any level of practice.

Lenna is an incredible instructor (and person). As an adult beginner, learning the cello has been incredibly challenging (both physically and emotionally). The challenge made it hard to bond with the instrument during my first six months of technical instruction (with another instructor). Along came Lenna, and she inserted exercises into our lessons to address just this, and thanks to her, I have a more peaceful and joyful relationship with my practice. Lenna has an intuitive understanding of what her students need and how to foster healthy and sustainable practice habits. She is professional, encouraging, incredibly patient and she brings must-welcomed creativity to every lesson (in the form of improv, jamming together, describing the character of tones, and more). I highly recommend lessons with Lenna.

It’s true what the other reviews say about her kindness and patience. Lenna is a warm, thoughtful and generous human being. She also happens to be a gifted teacher and skilled cellist. She is able to correct tiny details in my playing that make a huge difference in sound. Better yet, she approaches it in a way that I might be able to make those corrections for myself, by asking me what I heard first and listening to my observations. Also her approach to practice and playfulness is something I aim to use in many aspects of my life.

Lenna is a warm, competent and encouraging teacher whose patience and good humor have helped my daughter to develop a love of the cello. Talia practices for fun, and shares some of the conversations she has with Lenna with her friends because they mean a lot to her. For example, every week Talia seems to ask what the saddest note is, and she and Lenna play and discuss the emotional tenor of the cello. It means a great deal to Talia and she recounts thw discussions to her friends, for whom she now volunteers to play cello.

The nuts and bolts: Lenna is easy to reach, responsive and accommodating. She arrives on time and prepared. She is able to communicate effectively during lessons and gives good feedback and good homework. She is positive and encouraging, too.

IF THERE IS A SAINT OF CELLISTS, i NOMINATE LENNA. She is filled with peacefulness, serenity, meditation, spirituality, prayer, humor, patience....and that does't even begin to talk about her extremely brilliant like the stars, cello playing and teaching. She is my first cello teacher, and she is my therapist, although she taught me today, that my cello is my therapist......it resonates passion and comfort and joy and beauty, beauty beauty. If you can take cello lessons, no matter your age, Lenna is the one you want for your teacher.

I am an adult beginner on cello, but I play a number of other instruments reasonably well. Lenna is attentive to my specific needs and adapts what we work on to focus on technique such that I don't feel, as I have with some other teachers at times, that I am dragging my feet a little bit. She is very patient and kind while also providing me with the constructive input I need. I would highly recommend her for adults, and I can see her working very well with children as well given her kind and patient manner.

I tried several cello instructors (one of them from Juilliard) and Lenna was the one I stuck with for years. She's amazing.

I highly recommend her for her compassion, kindness, patience, and ability to customize instruction based on what you need. Give her a shot!
