Mel is fantastic! I have only been taking lessons with him for a short time, but I feel like I have really made a lot of improvement! He is extremely patient and really cares about music. You can truly tell he puts his all into his lessons and truly cares about his students. Music is his passion and his optimism and love for music is contagious.

I decided to learn the violin and had no experience or background at all. Mel helped me start off with the essentials and is making sure I know proper form! I am beyond grateful that I found him and recommend him to anyone looking to learn. I promise you won’t regret hiring him to help you along your musical journey. I am most definitely looking forward to all my future lessons! Thank you Mel!

Very knowledgeable and experienced in not just playing the violin but teaching it as well.
Chris T.
At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.

Students of all ages in a personal relaxed atmosphere.
Customized to each student. If the student has not previously taken lessons I use Piano Adventures as the basic course guide. I have found it the most productive and enjoyable for my students. I uses a minimum of the Lesson and Theory book for my younger students with either the basic course or Accelerated course depending on their age and maturity. Adults begin with the All In one adult book. I add the other books that accompany each level based on the particular students needs and interests. I believe that a good grounding in Theory is essential as a student who becomes proficient in sight reading, no matter how well he/she plays by ear, will find that the doors for lifetime musical fulfillment with be much wider. However, with a student who has already had some lessons I will be happy to continue with any method that the student is currently using.
I also believe in supplementing the Piano course with the student's favorite ...

Kathy came to my home for my lesson. She has a very pleasant personality and it is very easy to follow her instructions. She kept the pace up, yet did not overload me. It's been a number of years since I have played and she did an excellent job on getting me back on the keys. I am looking forward to our next lesson.

Want to learn trumpet from a Berklee College of Music graduate? I'm always excited about educating the next generation of versatile trumpet players. There is so much nuance to the trumpet, and every player interprets and executes it differently. No two trumpeters are alike! My education was steeped in jazz studies and my teaching style is as well, even as a beginner I'll be teaching you the blues scale. I want you to feel my love of the trumpet. To pick up the horn is to go on a journey that involves so much of the body and mind. Discipline and curiosity govern my daily practice, and I hope to inspire you to want to pick up the horn as often as you can!

About James

I graduated Berklee in 2015 and worked on and off cruise ships around the globe till the pandemic hit. Since then, I've moved to Manhattan and decided that my five years of travel and daily playing may have prepared me enough for the big city. It's still too early to tell but things are going well s

How to Read Guitar Tabs Like a Pro | Learn Guitar | TakeLessons

Want to learn how to read guitar tabs? You’ve come to the right place. The traditional method of learning guitar involves scales, reading music, and other music theory skills.
