Dennis has been a mentor and friend now for nearly 20 years. He is a knowledgeable and passionate advocate for the arts who gives his all to each student. Working with him is always challenging and fun.

Dennis Johnson is extremely passionate and knowledgable about every topic relating to acting and voiceovers. His classes are friendly, warm, funny, inviting and are always very positive. Although his classes may be challenging, he focusses on preparing his students for the real world and is passionate about putting his student's best foot forward. A few things he covers in classes are improvisation, analyzing monologues and analyzing film. He is reliable and flexible with busy schedules and makes an effort to teach life lessons as well. I feel extremely lucky to have found him and to have access to his classes and film and voice over editing skills. He is a gem.
Christine
Working with Dennis has been incredibly beneficial to my growth as an actor. His ability to dissect a scene, work through the nuances of the character, and the sub-text and communicate this on camera with techniques that set you above the amateur actor, has helped me tremendously and opened up not only opportunities but my confidence as well. Dennis approaches the actor as a whole and understands there are parts to this whole and each part—the body, the speech, the mind—is just as important as the next. I wouldn't be the actor I am today if it weren't for Dennis.

Keeping the performing arts active and alive in my community has always been important to me. I strive to encourage creativity and to help my students flourish by nurturing their musical gift with proven teaching techniques. My teaching model is that of the traditional lesson structure, where I dedicate the first 15 minutes of an hour to learning warm up techniques, scales and music theory. I then focus on an etude to further develop the flute playing techniques needed to play an involved piece of music. The final 30 minutes are spent working on whatever piece of music my student has selected. I often let my student's choose the music they feel most connected to and excited about however, I will also choose for them to ensure they learn what are considered the "flute standards" in repertoire. The traditional lesson style helps to maintain structure within a lesson time frame but I am also flexible and will deviate to focus on areas my students may need extra time on.

About Michelle

Passionate about music and flute since a young child, I have over 20 years of experience in solo performance, orchestral and ensemble work. I began my musical career in the 4th grade when first introduced to the flute. After graduating from high school in 2006, I attended Berklee College of Music in

Michelle has an extraordinary talent. My fiancé and I contacted her to play our wedding ceremony and reception music after I heard Michelle play a solo piece at a winter concert I attended this December. UNBELIEVABLE! We knew we HAD to have her play our music, as we were looking for a more whimsical, classical vibe for the music, rather than the ordinary “press play and hear covers of different songs” vibe.
The way she connects with the music is like something I’ve never seen before. I would highly recommend Michelle for any event that you are looking to host. She also mentioned she conducts lessons-although I am not a musician myself, I believe she would be an excellent teacher!

Michelle is a fine flut teacher. She is knowledgeable, accomplished in her own performance, passionate about the craft of playing, and flexible in accommodating the non-traditional student. As an adult student with previous performance experience, I especially appreciate her willingness and ability to fine tune my current level of performance and keep me on my toes with new material and techniques. I strongly recommend Michelle as a flute teacher for any level of learner.

"Tanisha is AWESOME

Tanisha- she knows what she’s doing. I remember a saying that goes “Those who can’t do, teach” –something like that- but anyway, Tanisha, well, she both CAN DO and TEACH. She definitely knows her art and she would make sure that you learn yours too. She doesn’t just stop at teaching you how to reach the notes; she will teach you how to own the notes, that is the way she teaches music. I never thought I could be even more passionate about singing than I already am until I met her. The passion that she brings with her is so captivating that she will, not only involve you, but engage you in what you’re doing. Her energy during the class is just contagious, it would really make you take on the lessons with enthusiasm and glee- not a dull moment with her but also she knows just exactly how to balance it with the right amount of strictness so you would really get the lesson in your head. . I remember the first time I spoke with Steve, the operator from take lessons telling me how Tanisha is actually quite far from my place but that I should go on and try the lessons because she’s definitely worth the travel- well, I should really commend Steve too because he is so right, taking lessons with Tanisha is one of the best decisions I have ever made, maybe I’ll commend myself too for making that decision and if you make the same decision then I will commend you too ;p lol"

"We adore Chrissy. She is a delight to be around, is very welcoming, patient, and encouraging. Her talent is very apparent and she extends that to her students with each lesson. My daughter has displayed noticeable improvement each week and looks forward to seeing Chrissy and practicing. Incorporating students' personal music likes is also very motivating- starting with scales and basic lessons and ending with a personal challenge has been very motivating to my daughter. I cannot recommend Chrissy enough. She is a great teacher!"

What is a Vintage Violin, and How Are They Different?

I am often asked if my violin is an antique or a vintage violin. Well, first of all, let’s define exactly what is antique or vintage. These seemingly nebulous terms do, in fact, have more precise definitions. An antique dealer, as well as the U.S. Customs Service, will tell you that the item must be at least 100 years old to be considered an antique. So today, an antique violin would have to have been made in 1921 or earlier. The word vintage is slightly more subjective though. The word itself …
