I have a degree in music with a teaching certificate. I have been teaching cello privately for 10 years. Depending on the age of the child we will start with either Essential Elements or Suzuki cello book one. They will start with proper positioning and plucking. Once they have 8 notes down, we start bowing. As we progress, we will be doing scales, and etudes.

About Chris

I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and t

If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs. Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed.

The main thing that I like to remind students of, when they take lessons with me, is that music is FUN! A lot of hard work goes into it, but the end result is always rewarding! I am a pretty laid back teacher, yet I still work to inspire my students to try their hardest and to be the best that they can be at what they do. It is very important to me that my students get their musical wants AND needs fulfilled.

In my singing lessons we will work on a variety of topics, including:

-Gaining a feel and command for your own instrument.

-Finding your SOUND: Making sure that you are singing the right music for your vocal style and also that connects directly to you, the vocalist.

-EXERCISES: Breathing and vocalization that will lessen fatigue and enhance the strength, endurance, and quality of your voice.

-Music Theory and Ear-Training

-Building your repertoire, which is necessary for performance.

-Arranging and Communication with your accompanying musicians or band.

I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliche© to say so, but it's true! :) For me, having parents of different ethnicity and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon

"I took a number of guitar lessons from Greg. I knew very little about playing, just some very basic stuff. He was very encouraging, yet pushed me to try some new things. I enjoyed his style of teaching very much and would recommend him highly. Great sense of humor to boot. At least some of the reason I’m still playing today is from that earlier teaching. Thanks for the help Greg"

She is a teacher who enjoys thinking during each lesson and providing her students with the right tools to improve their singing.

Rebecca’s unique teaching style also blends the technical and mental aspect of singing.

If you are a beginner or a more advanced singer looking to improve your technique, she is a great choice."

"Kim is incredibly knowledgeable in all genres/ styles of voice. I was fairly nervous to begin my singing journey in my 20s. However, Kim’s patience and encouragement really helped me to break out of my shell. She encouraged me to push myself and try new things. This really paid off. I learned a lot of warm ups, techniques, and songs. She truly cares about her students. She also emailed me a detailed note after each lesson summarizing what we worked on, and reminded me what I should practice. I hope to take my newfound instrument with me to an open mic night soon!"
