• Application- Putting technical skills to use and knowledge of when to use them.

Public Speaking: Like that of the other subjects, my primary focus is to give you fundamental skills of interpretation. There are seven interpretation techniques that are used to empower and influence not only the speaker, but even your audience. The seven interpretative techniques can be applied to these six types of speeches: Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, Persuasive, Informative, and Social groups. You will also learn stage presence, and effective leadership skills. By the end of this course, you’ll not only have the confidence, you’ll have the command and compassion to lead.

My students' musical interests, goals and abilities dictate the direction that we select for their lesson plans. By recognizing and understanding each students learning style, I use techniques/methods that are suited to that particular student. This improves the speed and the quality of learning.
I am flexible and easy going but focused - and I encourage my students to do the same. I want my students to succeed and be able to play the music that they enjoy!

I have supplemented these areas of knowledge by studying Gaelic since 2007 and Clàrsach (wire-strung harp) since 2012. I have performed with the Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club and the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums since 2004, for weddings and Scottish Country Dances since 2006, and founded the Scottish Folk-Acoustic band The Devil's Tailors in 2008, and lead the only DC-area open Scottish jam session. I also participate in a living history unit reenacting the 1745 rebellion in the Highlands, leading me to study the music's historical co
My approach to Scottish traditional music is holistic; I feel it's important to experience how song feeds into instrumental music, and how the instrumental traditions interact with one another, and impart that broader view to my students. My focus is mostly on the folk traditions, though for bagpipe students, I teach the current and formal pipe band technique and repertoire as a foundation.
I have twice qualified for the US National Scottish Fiddling Championship, and was 4th place overall in Grade 4 Senior out of almost 850 pipers in 2006, and have been taking an extended hiatus from competition.

In addition to performance, Pierre-Oliiver has also worked as a singing teacher at the Conservatory and the RKM rock school of Namur (Belgium). For about 8 years, he has been offering private singing lessons to students at different levels and designing individualized classes to help students achieve their objectives. He coached regularly professional and non-professional singing groups and choirs, including youth choirs. He has given different master classes in Belgium, France and Chile.

I am an enthusiastic, fun, adaptive yet demanding teacher. In each lesson, I adapt my teaching method according to the special requests and levels of my students, as well as their expectations and the daily conditions. I usually work with each student to decide together which is the best repertory for his/her voice and plan together the learning program. I will create a stress-free and trust environment to help my student progress in his/her work. Together with the students, we will develop a strong technique but always with musicality!
For beginners, we will be mainly focusing on the basics of vocal techniques, e.g. relaxation, breath, voice correctness and stability and the interpretation of selected songs.
For intermediate and advanced students, we will mainly concentrate on musicianship and specific technical corrections related to their voices. I am opening to do interpretation only for people who prepare shows or auditions.
I accept students of any age and level, but students must have motivations… For young students, I try to communicate regularly with their parents to explain the work we have done in the class and the home work which could be interesting for the students to do. Singing lessons are a funny and creative way to discover the true artist that is hidden within each person, so let's get started!!

I am student at a conservatory in Belgium and have a full training there but I found Pierre-Olivier's courses very (dare I say even more) interesting and complete.
I made a lot of progress during the 3 months I spent being his student: my technique improved a lot, and I learned so much about interpretation.
Pierre-Olivier has a vast general knowledge which is very pleasant as he can help you understand and analyse your score thoroughly. He not only teaches classical music but is open to a great deal of styles and I had the chance to explore the genres a bit more and exploit my voice.
I was really sad to see him leave because it is so hard to find a good teacher (trust me I had plenty) and hope he'll come back to Belgium
I am looking forward to seeing him again during one of his summer camps back in Europe.

I'm a life long musician. Voice is my main instrument but I play piano, guitar, and flute. I have performed in many choirs. And I have judged musicians here in America and in China. Recently I lived in China and taught music and English to students aged 6 to 40. The languages of music and English open many doors the world over.

I think learning the instrument has to be fun and engaging. But also has to focus on proven methods and especially a foundation in music theory. We will learn, key signatures, music notation, major and minor scales, intervals, etc. to form a solid foundation. But we are also going to throw in songs you know to reinforce important concepts. Most importantly we will apply the three P rule. Practice Practice Practice. There is no substitute and you must make a commitment to yourself that you will find the time EVERY day for practice.
