About Charis

I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helpi

ng one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

*** Specialties ***
I teach any style and method that is needed, but prefer Bastien, feeling it doesn't drag the information out. I teach note reading and playing classical music to playing by chords and learning how to split the voicing

Great teacher! She was able to teach my daughter in 3 lessons what her band teacher couldn’t do in 6 months. My daughter walked away after her first lesson excited and couldn’t wait for her next lesson. You can tell Charis loves what she does.

About Katherine (Kay)

Taught 41 years as a band director
Principal Trumpet with Beloit/Janesville Symphony

I like to teach in a style that is functional and interesting. Students will be doing a variety of activities at each lesson. The focus will be determined by their needs.

As students become more proficient in music their enjoyment of musical activities will increase. The success of completing various levels of musical achievement will carry over to other lifetime skills.

*** Lesson Details ***
I will work with each student depending on their individual needs. We will strive to produce steady improvement in player proficiency.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should have a music stand and instrument

*** Specialties ***
I like to teach based on the individual. I have taught group and private lessons. The materials I use are varied, with an emphas

is on scales, theory, and also some duet playing. I also like to incorporate some music history into each lesson. I feel that each student needs to work from known to the new areas. I often use supplementary materials (solos or small ensembles) to reinforce my teaching.

Kay is very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. She is very encouraging and never makes me feel dumb when I hit a sour note. (As a beginning beginner, that happens a lot!) I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time!

About Felicia

I graduated with a bachelors in music education at Western Illinois University in 2012. At the university I received talent grants to play in the symphony orchestra as a violinist, I also sang in the school of music top choir. After graduating I immediately was offered a position at a music studio in Geneva and have been successfully working for them for the last 5 years. For the last 3 years I have worked at a middle school in Elmhurst as a choir director and also was the vocal director for 3 musicals and head director for 2 plays. I have background with special education students from ages 5-13.

Although I am primarily a violinist and vocalist I also teach up to intermediate in piano, viola, cello, and acoustic guitar at the music studio. I believe that it is important for the student to be able to learn music theory at their skill l

evel, problem solving, and also enjoying what they play. Beginning lessons will give students a strong foundation of their instrument but adding on solo music.

She asked me what I wanted to learn and assisted me in a very patient way, and showed me the correct way of strumming and whatever else that was needed. A very good start.

Felicia is a great teacher! We work well together, she asks how I want to learn and she helps me to understand what I’m learning! As an adult learner, it helps that she can modify my lesson to suit my specific needs. I think this will be a great partnership!!

Felicia has truly helped me improve on the viola. From spotting my wrong bow hold to making sure that I am absolutely positive on where the fingerings are for the key, she has most definetly improved my playing over all and is helping me advance past most of my peers in my school orchestra.

About Christopher

Christopher’s approach to teaching is empathetic and courteous, emphasizing body awareness and building a strong technical foundation. In the first few lessons, he aims to form an assessment of the student’s playing experience and to outline a set of goals for a sense of structure. Christopher also inquires with the student their musical interests, assigning repertoire that fits their technical needs but is both enjoyable and challenging. In addition, he strives to provide a well-rounded experience that allows the student to relate their musical pursuits with cultural, social, and historical events. He typically assigns scale exercises, etudes, and duets in addition to solo cello suites, sonatas, concerti, and other pieces in the standard cello and orchestral repertoire. Christopher is comfortable teaching beginning, intermediate and adva

nced levels and encourages students of all ages to reach out for starting lessons. At the moment, he is providing lessons at the student’s home, though is willing to make reasonable accommodations if needed.

Christopher began playing the cello at the age of nine. Born in Chicago, he studied with Timothy Archbold, former assistant principal of the Peoria Symphony. In the fall of 2012, Christopher went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance at the Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Andrew Mark. During his undergrad, he was a founding member of the Dracard Quartet, who became the honors ensemble for the Boston Conservatory for the 2015-2016 academic year. They were awarded the first prize in the Senior Chamber Music division of the Massachusetts American String Teacher Association String Competition as well as performing in the Museum of Fine Arts’ Sound Bite Series in Boston. Christopher has also performed in masterclasses with Colin Carr, Levon Chilingarian, Joseph Silverstein, Rhonda Rider, and Tony Arnold. While in Boston he had the opportunity to sit principal cello with the MIT Chamber Choir and Orchestra in the fall of 2015. In addition, Christopher has performed in principal and assistant principal roles with the Boston Conservatory’s Baroque Ensemble, Opera Orchestra, Sinfonietta and Symphonic Orchestra. After graduating from the Boston Conservatory, he moved back to the Chicagoland area to be closer to family, and to pursue freelance opportunities. Christopher’s goal is to build a studio in the coming years, teaching all ages and levels. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys reading, cooking, walking his dogs, playing videogames, and visiting with friends and family.

About Candace

Hello!
I started private violin lessons myself when I was nine, after begging my parents for two years to let me try. They finally caved, and I was in love!
I learned through the Suzuki Method until completion when I was 14, then I moved on to more difficult repertoire. I took lessons all through high school and eventually graduated from college with a Bachelor's of Music degree in violin performance.
My teaching philosophy has always been that anyone, child or adult, can learn to play an instrument. It isn't so much talent as it is hard work! Throughout the years, I've grown to realize that not everyone learns the same way, and so I have continuously tailored my teaching approach to each individual student and I challenge them based on what their goals are.
My favorite part about teaching is watching a student's face light up when they'v

e been struggling through something and it suddenly clicks. It's the most beautiful thing, and so satisfying! When a student of mine realizes that they can make music, and that their hard work has paid off to make good music, that's when the magic happens, and they unlock so much potential.
This inspires me to keep doing what I love, and I hope to share it with as many people as possible!

I’ve gone to Brad before the last 3 auditions I did and he has helped tremendously. He’s very knowledgeable when it comes to understanding a monologue. Brad cares about this art form and thinks far beyond just saying lines with an emotion and it shows. I highly recommend you ask him for help on your next audition.

I've been working with Nazar since 1998. Not only does he know his stuff and makes his teaching personal to your needs, but he also has a way to make you feel successful even when you are struggling. you always feel better about your playing when you leave than when you got to his studio. He recognizes your learning style and what you want to accomplish, then builds his teaching around that.

If you are looking for a cello teacher (and yes, he also teaches piano and other instruments) I'd say put your time and money into Nazar and you, you will feel it is one of your best investments

A great intro. He taught me exersizes & we sang scales & jumped in to singing a song. He was patient with me and helped me navigate the song line for line. He suggested songs to take home and practice while also considering songs I want to learn, if I'd like to perform them etc. I found him after weeks of research. He was flexible with my schedule & meeting location. I think his style and passion will take me where I need to go. I look forward to continuing lessons with him."
