About Cecilia
I am a South-american violinist and violin-music teacher who loves music, dancing, arts, nature, and animals. I am a social, kind, caring, persevere and self-disciplined person.

I started teaching 9 years ago when I was studying my Bachelor'€™s degree. In my country, I was the teacher of 25 lovely children and youth, with whom I created my own violin studio. It started only with 3 students, and after 7 years we were a wonderful group that performed in different recitals, festivals and trips around our country. Together we learned about violin, classical music, popular music, folk music, singing, etc., but most importantly we learned about sensitivity, sharing, self-discipline, respect, creativity and many other personal skills that music helps us learn in such a joyful way.

In Boston, while doing my masters, I also had the oppo
rtunity to teach two children in English with new methods I was learning in my string pedagogy course. In addition, I have taught adults and elderly (70-72) to play the violin, and find their smiles and learning process more than satisfying. Finally, I was the music teacher in a kinder garden, and had students from 2 to 4 years old. I like to teach people with different ages because I learn from them and their different needs.

I have also had some few students with different abilities such as Down syndrome, Asperger's syndrome and Dwarfism. I cannot say I am an expert but I am open to learn from these students if I have a good orientation and support from the parents and specialists.

Right now, after finishing my Master'€™s degree in Boston, I am living in Chicago because my husband is studying his PhD at Northwestern University. I miss teaching and sharing my love for music with others, that is why I really want to find new students that want to join me in their musical journey.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe every person is talented and can learn music. I think that the best way to learn music and arts is from the experience, where the person can develop not only music and instrumental skills, but also creativity, originality, joy and love for music. These are skills that are needed to enjoy and learn music, but also to be a more sensitive and rounded person. My goal is to build a professional and positive environment where the person can develop his/her musical abilities as well as his/her personal skills. In order to achieve this goal, it it usually better to have the lessons in my own studio instead of the student's house. That way we can work with a complete music environment and the student can benefit 100% from the music experience.

I have learned in the process that regular practice and a consistent schedule encourages not only progress but great motivation. Also, I have found that a experience-based approach helps them keep motivated because the students learn much faster and gain a deeper musical intuition than with a theoretical and approach.

I think it is important to give the students the time to talk and share their thoughts about the music. I like to guide them discovering how their bodies feel more comfortable with the instrument, instead of telling them the "correct form". I like to make them clap, sing, move and feel the music before telling them how to play it. I like to introduce music theory and reading from the beginning encouraging them to use their knowledge about music.

In addition, I have found that following the literature of more traditional methods with scales and etudes, helps the students to develop completely in their instruments, with a great technical foundation. That is why I like to mix experience-based methods such as Suzuki, Kodaly and Dalcroze, with traditional books such as Essential Elements, Wolfhart, Kreutzer, etc.

I usually start with Suzuki, The Blue Book, and some personal material that I create for each student depending on their needs. After a while, I start to introduce some pieces of different parts of the world or different styles while introducing scales and etudes. This way I maintain the student's motivation and give them a broader view of music, while developing important skills for their instrument. Then, when the student is ready, I introduce more difficult pieces and solo repertoire.

For adults, I try to adapt my method to their particular goal in music, giving them both fun and the best level they want to achieve. I give them material that is adequate to their needs and also to their preferences.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have several materials for children and adults. Music cards, music games, toys, puppets, etc.
I also have books to start our journey. However, the student will have to buy his/her own books once we start.
I own one 4/4 violin that could be rented for a tall or adult student. I also own a 3/4 violin for rent.
Smaller violins would have to be rented or bought.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can travel to the student's house with my instrument if it is within my travel limits (5 miles) and if it is accessible via public transportation.

*** Specialties ***
- Suzuki method mixed with some traditional books and world
music.
- Experience with Alexander Technique, Dalcroze, and Kodaly.
These methods deal with music freedom and tension free
techniques.
- Music performance work with professional musicians and
conservatory student (effective practice, musicianship, tensions,
creativity, etc.)
- I speak Spanish fluently (that is my mother tongue), and could
teach in Spanish if wanted.
- Folk dances from Peru: Marinera Norteña, Festejo, Huayno, etc.

Our child has taken cello lessons but has not learned to "shift" or even what the word means. Amy's first lesson provided exact instructions, repeated until the knowledge was easy to bring back. Our child is extremely happy with what was taught and commented, "I really want to practice my music now that I can tell if I'm doing it right." Thank you, Amy! You are an amazing teacher! Patient, kind but funny as well! Thank you for always taking the encouraging route. Your positive energy is very catchy!

Amy is a tremendously patient and wonderful teacher who engages her students in finding solutions. What an excellent quality as a teacher - it ensures the student is actively thinking of the problem and concentrates more on the solution (even if the technique is hard to master). She presents the material and works over it again and again to be sure the student is set for the weeks success. Amy also has the finest teaching quality in finding the good in the students work even when pointing out all the areas for improvement would be the easy route. Pointing out the good qualities makes these qualities much strong and gives a sense of pride to the student for their hours of work.

Dan is a superb coach. For context, I'm a 31 year old male software engineer. I've been playing guitar and drums each for over a decade, but when I decided to learn to sing a few years ago I found it to be significantly harder to pick up. Last year I went looking for a coach and found Dan. I've been taking lessons with him twice weekly for about 9 months now and have been delighted with my results. Like really, really pleased. If you have the opportunity to get in Dan's roster jump on it!

I'm a beginner, and Dan quickly and efficiently evaluated by technique and set clear goals for how to improve the fundamentals necessary to move forward, and gave me concise exercises to work on for next time. He also took many notes during our first lesson and seems to really consider each student's individual capabilities and goals. Highly recommended!

I was always drawn to learn more on guitars and one day decided to teach myself. I wanted to teach myself to play so that I can develop my own teaching style, as well as my own methods of teaching. When you are an absolute beginner and you look to learn from other people, their way of teaching can be a little challenging. But with my teaching style it is more broken down. I understand the struggles and difficulties that comes with learning guitar, that's; why I am here to break it down and teach as clea
rly as possible. I am a very caring person, I love to help others and love to see them improve daily. My main goal is for all of my students to learn and benefit from my teaching. I love when students are excited and eager to learn more. Putting effort is very important in order to succeed. if you don't put effort, it will not work.

You can expect to learn the following things:
-Parts of the Guitar
-Song Tutorials
-Picking Patterns
-Strumming Patterns
-Notes on the Guitar
-Chords
-Tablature

I am excited to start offering my teaching services on trombone, euphonium and the rest of the instruments from the brass family here at takelessons.com.

I have played with notable groups such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and am a former member of renowned Axiom Brass Quintet. I studied with Jay Friedman and other members of the Chicago Symphony at Roosevelt University for five years. My teaching philosophy falls into the Arnold Jacobs Song and Wind school of thought. I teach a lot of mouthpiece buzzing, and fundamental exercises to get my students playing with golden singing sounds!

Currently I am starting my second year in the DMA program at the University of Iowa where I am also a graduate teaching assistant in the trombone studio. In addition to the teaching I do at the University I am also a low brass teaching partner a
t West Music in Coralville.

Currently I am affiliated with two professional orchestras in the Eastern Iowa area. I am the second trombonist in Orchestra Iowa based out of Cedar Rapids, and will be filling in as an interim second trombone for the 2017-2018 Quad City Symphony season. I have been playing in professional orchestras for the last ten years and can teach you orchestral style, and audition preparation.

In addition to my orchestra playing, I was also a member of Axiom Brass Quintet from 2012-2014 where we were the first prize winners at the International brass competition held in Passau Germany.

I'm hoping to get to work with students who want to dive right into mastering their camera and all it has to offer, whether we're shooting on film or digital, both of which I can offer instruction in. Learning to be in absolute control of your camera and how your settings will affect your photos is key to creating your images & making sure they come out exactly the way you envision them. Our time together will be a full immersion into light-writing. Over the years, I have had approximately 4 years of cumulative formal instruction on the subject, and have been freelancing since 2011, for events such as weddings, anniversaries, baby/bridal showers, graduation and engagement photos, live concerts, and just about anything else you can think of. Previously a Photography student of Daytona State College in Florida, I made the move up to Chicago
in 2015, and am currently studying at Harold Washington College. In the spring I will graduate with my Art Studio AFA. I genuinely look forward to any time spent with someone with a desire to hone their craft, and hope to bring more inspiration to those wanting to bring forth their vision. Aside from photography, I also teach a handful of other subjects that you or someone else may be interested in!
