The guitar is the most popular instrument to learn, and it can be used to play practically any kind of music in any style.

We all have a vast wellspring of creative energy within us, and my goal as a music teacher is to help you discover your gifts and make beautiful and deeply satisfying music. For this reason, my approach to teaching music is customized to the needs, tastes, and strengths of each student. You'll be able to choose material from popular and familiar music in whatever style attracts you.

You'll learn some basic exercises to develop core skills, gradually increasing technical challenges as your skills grow. Most importantly, you'll use scientifically-based learning techniques to train your brain and build "muscle memory." Soon you'll find yourself moving smoothly between chords without missing a beat, playing by ear, or writing your own songs. And woven into the practical lessons, you'll also learn basic elements of music theory.

I've just done my first session w/Sean. I'm signing on for a while as he seems very approachable, knowledgeable, and flexible. He also has a varied background w/singing/songwriting/guitar playing which will work for my new approach. He also works in several complimentary areas of music & likes Rumi & J. Mitchell as much as I do!

About Me as a Teacher:

I’m a dramatic soprano living in Germany, currently pursuing my Master’s Degree at the Hochschule Franz Lizst in Weimar. I have done a lot of work on my technique through the years - having a voice type that is by definition high maintenance, I have a lot of insight into technique as the training for this type of voice is extensive by necessity. It was a long road - I was first considered a mezzo, then a soprano, then I worked internationally as a dramatic ...

I have put my daughter in singing classes with many different teachers but none were as spectacular as Mary. She is in love with these classes and all the technique being taught in them, and I've noticed a lot of progress in her singing plus confidence in her ability. I sadly cannot afford any more classes but recommend Mary whole-heartedly to anyone that really wants to advance as a singer and have serious improvement.

"As an adult, time to practice is a luxury. I really like that the practice pieces are music that I like and are challenging enough for me to enjoy the time spent. Also, he takes time to answer my questions thoroughly, so that I actually feel like I am learning. He is patient and isn't hard on me when I make mistakes. I have started lessons a couple of times, without success. I believe Edward, by far has the best technique and teaching style, for me to enjoy this learning experience."

"I first met Andrew when I joined the Temple University Diamond Marching Band. Andrew was the trumpet section leader and breath tech, and he made it his goal to ensure that everyone in the section could improve as much as possible by focusing in on the aspects of each individual's playing. In addition to knowing a lot about the trumpet and trumpet playing, Andrew was exceptionally friendly to everyone he worked with. He was always willing to offer advice not just about trumpet, but life in general, and he has greatly contributed to my trumpet playing and attitude towards life. I would recommend Andrew to anyone looking to improve their trumpet playing."

7 Great Audition Songs for Sopranos

The best audition songs for sopranos help singers stand out from the crowd and be heard when auditioning. Ideally, you should be able to create a tone similar to the original but, above all, you must enjoy the song. Almost all pieces, provided they are in your range and you can sing them well, wor …
