My musical journey started in high school when my algebra teacher saw me in the hallway, grabbed my hand and brought me to the choir room to sign up for The Sound of Music auditions. To this day I cannot believe my math teacher unknowingly sent me straight down a path that I would walk the rest of my life. After The Sound Of Music I never left music. I kept singing in high school by participating in the school musicals and different choir ensembles. When it came to college I started taking private lessons and music classes for fun until I realized this is my passion and I wanted to make a life of this. When you wake up everyday and the first thing you do is sing at that point there was no other way to live. There I started my journey with really learning the voice as an instrument and how it works. I found that I am a vocal scientist
at heart believing you will go a long way as long as you know how to grow. Being a vocal scientist, I find it so interesting to know what exactly needs to happen when we sing in order sing in a healthy and beautiful manner.
While I was at Moraine Valley after I firmly chose music I felt I needed more of a diverse program so I can answer any possible music based question. I then went on to get my degree at VanderCook College of Music where they teach nothing but music education. Their program intensely teaches all the band and orchestral instruments on top general education classes and your major, mine being voice. While I was there I also took the time to study privately with our percussion professor to learn rhythms and with our sight singing and ear training professor to further develop my ear and knowledge. All in all I have been studying the voice for 13 years and counting. I do all this so that I could pass that experience down to you.
▪Lesson Details▪ In my lessons I like to teach vocal techniques such as raising your soft palate, correct breathing techniques, and a forward placement. These are the tools to help a vocal musician grow for the rest of their lives.
Another part of being a vocal musician that I teach is ear training and or rhythm. These are things I wish I would have learned earlier on and are essential to being an independent musician.
Expression (including body movements, hand gestures, facial expression, and musical expression such as accents and dynamics) are a large part of performing as a vocalist and are definitely things we prepare as well.
I like to keep a more uplifting environment when teaching so although you should expect a push for success, you should always feel comfortable and not afraid to make mistakes.

Classically trained pianist and singer. When it comes to piano, I have over 20 years of training under my belt. Majority of my experience deals with classical and accompaniment but have also studied jazz and contemporary. In the way of singing, I am a classically trained singer who majored in Opera Performance in college. I have plenty of performance experience from being on the stage in operas and musical to performing with choirs and solo recitals. In voice lessons a student can choose to specialize in opera or if they were to take standard voice lessons, they could expect a wide variety of music focusing on multiple languages and genres including musical theater.
With every musician, Music Theory is crucial. All students will learn the basics of reading music and those who choose, can go beyond to learn the structure of music a
nd why music is the way it is with Music Theory lessons.
I am qualified to teach all levels of piano, opera, and voice.I take a real hands on, active approach to teaching, going beyond just the lesson books.
I am also able to offer tutoring services. I have been tutoring since high school. In high school as part of the National Honors Society, we were asked to tutor once a week and it continued into college when I decided to double major in Psychology taking an interest in adolescence psychology. My strong suits and reading and math but I am more than happy to help in any subject.

*** Lesson Details *** Our sessions will be laid back and easy going. I expect the students to do their work and practice and as long as they are showing progress, we can continue with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. I am patient with my students, and do my best to develop teaching methods unique to each student to give the best experience and set them up for the highest level of success. I don't push students to perfection but rather assist them in reaching their personal best. As long as they are having fun and learning, I know I am doing my job. Music is to be enjoyed and that is my goal with each student.
For voice and piano, students will learn a wide variety of music. I also believe strongly in the power of sight reading. Students will also learn music theory in their lessons. Piano students will follow a lesson book curriculum along with learning scales and sight reading. Voice students will sing from all major languages (English, French, Italian, and German) and practice sight reading skills.
Students should bring a notebook to lessons where notes will be taken on what we accomplished in our lessons and what needs to be worked on for the next lesson. This will usually include a theory sheet, technique work, and songs.
Twice a year I hold a recital where students get to show off to other students and family what they have accomplished in their lessons. With piano students, you will prepare and memorize usually one song. For voice students, you will prepare and memorize two songs, at least one will be in a foreign language.

I've always loved to sing from my earliest remembrance along with a love for the piano and a desire to play. I attended Academy of Our Lady - High School where I took four years of piano as well as vocal instruction. I performed with a group called The Madrigals as a 'high soprano' during those years. I further attended Wheaton College, attained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music. I was educated musically through Wheaton's Conservatory of Music. I studied piano, voice, theory, music history, music appreciation,and sight singing to name a few. I auditioned, performed, and traveled with the Women's Glee Club. Since then, I served as the worship leader in church setting. I was responsible for music selection, accompaniment, and vocal coaching for our worship team. I've also worked as a facilitator in an after school program.
There, I worked with students on an individual as well as group basis. I led a youth choir that traveled and performed for local nursing home residents. I also taught music appreciation and a fitness/movement class incorporating various genres of music. Throughout the years I've had may opportunities to work with students one-on-one in piano and vocal instruction and performance. Overall, I am very passionate about music. Whether its listening, singing, playing or helping someone develop or grow in their talent, I simply love it! Now, I'd be honored to work with you. I am comfortable working with beginners to intermediate in both piano and voice, ages 5 and up. As partners, this is a dual effort. In piano, I can help you learn the basics of playing such as note recognition, scales, chord formation, ear development and form a foundation that you can build upon progressively. In voice, I can help you develop good breathing, posture, tone, diction and expression. I am excited to work with whatever singing style that interests you most. Opera is my only exception at this point. I offer training in classical music to use as a foundation for any other genre of music that interests you.
In general, I prefer to use well-balanced methods that incorporate theory along with the mechanics of learning. I believe in using tools, games,or aids that make learning fun, especially for the young beginner. The method used will depend upon the goals and needs of the student.

A job provides money. A career provides income over a longer term. But, guitar...guitar is part of who I am.
My passion for guitar and music has been alive as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, guitar and I had our ups and downs. Serious issues! At times guitar was stubborn and difficult. In fact, while attending the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago on the Presidential Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance, there were days when I considered ending my relationship with guitar. But, I stayed with guitar. With dedication to our relationship and a lot of work, we are still together and happier than ever. And, here to help you work on your relationship with your guitar.
I have my bachelors degree in sacred music, my masters degree in music performance, and my doctorate in worship studies. I am an experienced music teacher with great interpersonal skills and enjoy creating a fun and meaningful learning environment for all ages of students. I teach music theory concepts as I teach music, and I also enjoy sharing the history of music and famous composers. My first lesson was great. Mr. Paul was very patient and judged my skill level before making a lesson plan. Initially I was nervous, because I have never taken lessons before, but that quickly went away. I can definitely tell that he knows his stuff when it comes to teaching. He a great teacher and conversationalist.

Paul was very pleasant. He thoroughly explained things to my daughter in a manner that she could understand. He listened to her play and they also played together.

Vicki is an amazing voice teacher! She worked with me for a few months preparing me for a singing class in school.
