I place a heavy emphasis on not only playing music but understanding it. Understanding what you're playing is one of the most important differences between an amateur and a professional musician.
Music is all about relationships and patterns. I teach my students to recognize and identify these relationships and patterns to set them up on the course for musical mastery.

Anyone can sing! I've always had this mentality and it is my goal as your potential teacher to get you to learn how to enjoy it! I like to teach from a classical standpoint and want to make sure you know what the theory is all about, how to breathe properly and how to align your body. Let's work together!

Michael is amazing! It is my first time doing a Skype lesson on Take Lessons, and it exceeded all expectations.
This is about the seventh time I've worked with him, and I see progress every lesson with the his vocal technique. He usually does a vocal warm up the first part of the lesson and then we go over a song of my or his choosing depending on what my goal was. When I was working on performing the Star Spangled Banner, he helped me become comfortable line by line and tailored each phrase to my vocal range. He is a 100% effort teacher, putting all of his passion into the lesson. You can tell that he loves what he does, from the patience and willingness to complete the task at hand even if it is over the allotted time, to the extra tracks he records and sends to me so I can practice on my own during the week. I appreciate his sincere and honest constructive criticism and I look forward to working with him in the future.
As far as logistics goes, not counting the times when Skype skipped a few seconds of speech, working with Michael has been seamless. He is very professional yet very down to earth. He is very flexible with the times of the lessons and is easy to get in contact with if there is an issue with the schedule. I recommend a Skype lesson to anyone not only because of the convenience, but also the range of expertise you can get. Michael lives in Brooklyn - and there is no way I could have worked with him living in San Diego before this! Thus, the teaching environment is a 4/5 simply because of errors of technology not by fault of the teacher."

Alethia is very professional. I have been thoroughly impressed with her knowledge of the instrument / theory. Alethia will surely be my violin teacher for a long time. I would strongly recommend her to anybody."
