Belinda J.

Temple City, CA

About Belinda

I have been teaching voice and piano since 2010, and I love sharing music with others! I am available for in-home and online lessons, and I teach a variety of styles for both voice and piano. My higher education studies are in vocal performance with a focus on classical music, opera, and art song, but a lot of my vocal students work on musical theater and popular repertoire. My piano students also play a variety of styles, and I teach many to play and sing at the same time!

I treat every student with respect, and I truly enjoy getting to know them as well. I like to have fun in my lessons,
but I also have years of training and musical knowledge to impart to my students. I am well versed in vocal pedagogy (the science of vocal production), and I use this education to promote healthy singing! I received my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Boston University and my Master of Music and Doctorate of Music in Vocal Performance at Arizona State University.

My 12 year old daughter is loving her singing lessons with Belinda. She is always so excited to go to her lessons and always leaves with a smile on her face. My daughter is wanting to do some musical theater auditions in the near future, and Belinda is helping her find and prepare for the auditions. We are so glad we found Belinda!

Classical Voice · In studio
I have been singing my entire life, but I really wanted to learn a more classical technique. I am so glad I am taking lessons with Belinda! She is so knowledgable about the voice, and she makes sure that I feel comfortable with the singing sounds that I make. I think the classical technique also improves my singing when I sing non-classical songs.

Jessica G.

Pasadena, CA

About Jessica

I have 20 years of playing experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance. I was the section leader of my university's orchestra as well as a full-scholarship member of the university quartet. As a professional gigging musician, I have played with Il Divo, Mario Winans, La Jolla Symphony, Doctor's Symphony, Porta Caeli Chamber Players, and the quartet La Dolce.

I am a member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California) and can sign my students up for Certificate of Merit. This is a music study program with an annual evaluation and written assessment. Stand-out stu
dents will be invited to play at the Branch Recital.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons differ slightly depending on the student. In general, it starts with scales for intonation or working on vibrato, moves on to an etude or exercise, and culminates with work on a piece of music. But not every student works well with this method, so I will add in some musical worksheets and ear training games for those that require lessons with more variety.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can come to your home to teach. I will bring all necessary method books and teaching materials.

This is Bekah's auntie...I am usually working on my computer in the other room when Bekah is taking online lessons. Lessons are well organized, and expectations clear. Bekah totally LOVES Jessica as her cello teacher. I played cello in my school orchestras from 4th grade through high school. I truly appreciate hearing Jessica work with Bekah. She musically encourages and challenges. We are very pleased! :)

I, myself, was a peer of Mike's at the University of Redlands. We both studied jazz guitar performance and have performed together on multiple occasions. Even so, Mike's ability as a performer far surpassed any of his colleagues'. In fact, his capabilities on the guitar were so outstanding that I decided that I would take lessons with him, in addition to regular lessons with my school instructor. To my surprise, the only thing better than listening to Mike's playing was his ability to transfer his knowledge to others.

His lessons are always conducted in a professional and friendly manner. I always left with a deeper understanding of music and as an improved player.

He is well versed in many styles and his professional experience as a musician is something to be sought after when looking for a guitar teacher. His understanding of the instrument and music theory will ensure that whatever questions you may have, he will know the answer. No matter where your skill level is, there will always be something to learn from this man.

Before I started taking lessons with Mike I was able to play the guitar but wasn't very experienced. Mike and I set a plan for myself that I would enjoy but also get me to be able to play what I wanted to play. He even helped me through some of my music classes at my college (Music Theory, Musicianship, Jazz, etc.) and taught me to apply what I was learning to the guitar. He taught me how to read music, play blues and jazz, and overall become a better musician.

He was challenging but made it overall fun and exciting. Whenever I ran into a problem he was able to break it down and figure out what I needed to do to get over it.

He is a great teacher and I am really grateful I started taking lessons with mike. I strongly recommend him; whether you have just started out and just want to learn or an experienced musician trying to get better, he will help you get there.
