With 10 years of teaching piano lessons and 3 degrees in piano, I have both the expertise and experience to provide a uniquely tailored learning environment to piano students of all ages and levels. Teaching excites me because it gives me the opportunity to find out each student's individuality and to help them reach their inner potential. Since student goals vary from wanting to play chord charts in a garage band to aspiring to become a concert pianist, I do not have a rigid teaching method - rather, I tailor it to each student. Beyond the fundamentals of technique and reading music, piano lessons with me include focusing any amount of the following: classical, improvisation, composition, theory, jazz, popular styles, hymns, etc... I can't wait to begin guiding you on your musical journey with the piano!

About Ozzie

I am a pianist and a passionate teacher of pianists of all shapes and sizes. The joy of playing the piano is one that my skills as a teacher help me infuse into my students. I also find it to be quite a positive feedback loop for me: teaching makes me want to hone my own skills and playing well give

My sixteen-year-old has been taking with Ozzie since the fall. His sound is richer and cleaner than it has ever been. Ozzie is very technically oriented. He emphasizes the hand work, finger work, and overall technique. Thaddaeus' playing sounds so much more mature after these months with Ozzie! Thanks, Ozzie!

My initial instruction follows the John Sprague school method, which focuses on precise articulation of ornamentation, leading into pipe band music.

Once a grounding in pipe band technique has been achieved, I can continue to work with students along the pipe band path through the intermediate level, or branch off into folk/kitchen piping, informed my extensive experience as a fiddler.

I am also willing to teach small pipe and border pipe students.

About Peter

I am a traditional Scottish musician specializing in 18th century music. I have studied Highland bag piping since 2001 and Scottish Fiddling since 2002 (with a background in classical violin). I teach both Scottish Fiddle and Highland Bagpipes, as well as Scottish Small pipes and Border pipes. I

It was an excellent lesson and I am feeling more confident with the chanter.

I started taking lessons with Peter in person before the pandemic in his studio. He is very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. When I initially told him that I was looking to learn to play the medieval bagpipes, he was very upfront in saying that he did not have any experience with medieval bagpipes, but he was willing to try if I was.

After the pandemic began we started with remote lessons and I find them just as useful- if more convenient. I highly recommend Peter as an instructor.

"Mia is an absolutely outstanding teacher. I came in for my first lesson horrified to sing, not knowing anything about performing. And in just a few months of learning with Mia I was cast in my first show. Fast forward a few more months and I have been accepted to the college of my choice in their Musical Theater program. In just a year she has helped me achieve my goals that seemed so out of this world to me in the beginning but now are a reality. She is not only amazing at the technical stuff, but she is so genuinely invested in helping you be the best that you can be. She changed my life and I'm so grateful to her."

"Dr. Merkel is the first tutor we have come across that is honest, forthright and actually TEACHES my daughter what she needs to know to reach her goals. He doesn't just tell her what he thinks she wants to hear to get her to come back next week. He's the real deal. He is a gentle corrector while being stern enough to instill what is necessary to succeed. The difference in her after four weeks with the Doc is amazing when compared to the last EIGHT YEARS she has been playing without his tutelage. We cannot say enough about him at this point and are thankful to have found such an expert!"

Pink Floyd Guitar Lesson | How to Play Like David Gilmour

When it comes to incredible guitar players, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd takes the cake. In this article, teacher Bernard M. shows you how to play the guitar just like the legend himself...   Many musicians strive to sound like their heroes. They want to get that special something that makes those legends stand out from the crowd. One of the best ways you can do this is to learn their parts -- beat for beat, note for note. While this can be difficult and time consuming, it's on …

The Importance of Vowels

If you've been taking singing lessons for a while, you've probably practiced several silly warm-up exercises. You know, the ones where you're making funny faces and sounds, saying nonsensical phrases, and so on. All of these exercises have one common goal: to prepare the voice and help you learn to keep your mouth and throat open. Read on as Seal Beach instructor Carl B. explains why vowels are important for this very reason... A few years ago I coined a phrase that clarifies the import …
