I have been teaching music for nearly a decade. I have taught in the schools as well as privately. I use a combination of somatic movement and experiencing, voice training, and musicianship to help singers achieve their singing goals. I help singers learn how to use their bodies well and embody music in order to achieve the results they want and have the results stick. Lesson plans vary depending on the student's goals. Some learning goals from previous students include freeing the voice, eliminating vocal strain and tension, improving intonation and rhythmic feel, improvising jazz and other African American folk styles, and building vocal endurance. However, the student can always expect to leave a lesson with a greater understanding of themselves and their voices. Does this speak to you? I look forward to working with you!

I've been singing professionally & learning voice myself for over 25 years ~ I focus on breath control, body awareness, vocal ranges, manipulation of sounds, placement/delivery, using one's belting voice properly, performance, ear training, harmony, solfeggio, reading music if one is interested etc. I teach everything from Contemporary/Pop, R&B, & Soul to Jazz, to Punk Rock & Indie Rock to Country to Musical Theater ~ everything but full on Opera, but I did study Opera for 1 year. I love teaching Voice and helping people discover their own unique sound.

Read on for some tips from vocal coach Heather L. about exploring pop music, even if you started out with classical training... This article, however instructional, is a very personal one for me to write. After studying opera and classical singing exclusively for 10 years, I finally admitted to myself that while I still loved to sing, I no longer loved to sing in that style. And while that p …
