About Matt
I have been teaching guitar to students on the East and West Coasts of the United States for over 20 years. I was always interested in music and made my first “recording” at the age of 2 and a half. I got serious about playing the guitar when I was 10 years old after hearing the legendary Randy Rhoads for the first time.
I begged my parents for a guitar, which I received at Christmas, along with a parental demand that I take classical guitar lessons, and a warning that if I did not practice, my parents would sell the guitar. Six months later, I still had the guitar, and a brand new electric guitar. I never stopped practicing, and spent summers at the National Guitar Summer Workshop, where I even built a guitar at age 15.
By the time I was in high school, I was regularly playing in bands, recording in professional studios, and studying M
usic Theory. I credit my early development to my teachers, Ron Bluen, and Steve Famiglietti. I aspire to offer my students the same positive influence I received during my formative years.
After high school, I attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where I honed my chops. From there, I played with various bands, including Hollywood Rose (the precursor to Guns N’ Roses) and with Bruce Bouillet (Racer X, The Scream, Epidemic) and Tommy Chong.
In 2006, I released my solo record, Contributions For An Atom Bomb. The Album has garnered a cult following and the respect of some of my all-time heroes.
Today, I continue to play live shows, teach, study, write, record and jam. Nothing makes me prouder than jamming with my students and watching them grow as musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to focus on three things every lesson.
1. Technical Exercises- to get your fingers moving and build strength and coordination
2. Music Theory - the fingerboard and the way music works seem complicated, but I have a great methodical and simple way to break it down so it all makes sense.
3. Tunes - I like to work with the music you like. We take songs and break them down to understand the techniques and theory behind them. You won't just play the song like the recording, you'll understand the chords and scales and why your favorite artist chose them.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have guitars, a bass, pedals, cables, metronome, practice amps, etc. All you need to bring is your guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own equipment and materials, students must provide their own guitar, amp, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I teach students to understand theory and the fingerboard. All styles and genres are acceptable but I specialize in rock.

Great teacher!

Matt has been friendly and encouraging, has considerable knowledge of his instrument, and has even inspired us to practice every day! He's a great teacher for younger children, has a passion for music, and is a source of inspiration.

An excellent teacher

I started taking lessons with Matt when I was 16 and when we started up again this year (I'm now 31) we were able to pick right back up where we left off. That should tell you all you need to know about how much he cares about his students.

He's an especially excellent teacher because he's so passionate about music and his instrument. You'll never run out of new things to learn because he's always learning new things himself.

Nobody will teach you to love the guitar like this dude!

With a degree in Voice studies from the Los Angeles College of Music, and 15 years of coaching, I am able to give my students the understanding of the voice as an instrument and the importance of practicing to acquire the skills that are required to maintain longevity as a singer.

During the lesson the student will also learn to interpret and perform songs in any style they choose to work on.

*** Travel Equipment ***
i can provide the keyboard when giving singing lessons.

*** Specialties ***
The method that I use is called "Freedom of natural voice production". It's a method that teaches the student to get rid of all the tension, bad habits, beliefs that stand in the way of the tone. This freedom allows the tone to come freely from our diaphragm, through the cords up to the head. In this method we use the air as a second eleme
nt, that vibrates the vocal cords and resonates them in the head.

I have taught Jazz, Latin, R&B styles.

About Jeff
I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I received my Bachelors in Songwriting. While attending Berklee, I won a prestigious songwriting competition that allowed me to perform my winning song in an audience filled with my peers and instructors.

I’ve been teaching private music lessons for over ten years and rock band classes for about five years. One of my bands won a battle of the bands contest with over eighty bands performing. I teach all levels on guitar. I can teach from beginning to intermediate levels on piano and bass.

My goal as an instructor is to get you playing your favorite songs. I find that this keeps you motivated and excited as you continue to progress on your instrument.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every lesson is personalized to to help you reach your goals. Some students want to learn how to read music, o
thers just want tab. Some students want to just focus on songs and chords. I’ve also just taught music theory and how it applies to writing your own songs. I will work on whatever it is that you want to focus on.

Keep in mind that if you are a complete beginner, then we will have to focus on the basics and technique until you’re ready to start rocking out those songs. But we will focus on how to get you there.

I like to incorporate bookwork, scales, arpeggios, and other exercises and pieces to help you gain a better understanding of your instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I come with my guitar, laptop, tuner, metronome and handouts. Student should have music stand, guitar, and amp (if guitar is electric).

*** Specialties ***
I've taught rock, blues, folk, jazz and classical guitar. The majority of my students learn typical pop/rock type of music, but on occasion I have taught jazz and classical. I studied classical and jazz guitar for about 2 years, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert.

I also teach beginning piano and bass lessons. I cover note reading, chords, scales and songs.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for reviewing my profile.

My name is Paula, and Jeff has been my guitar teacher for a little over 3 years. In LA, there are so many music teachers that it can be overwhelming picking the perfect one. Jeff has a solid music theory background. He is professional and passionate about music and it really shows when we have our lessons. What stands out about Jeff is his ability to teach the way I learn, and he make every lesson fun. I enjoy Jeff's patience with my learning process, and sense of humor. I appreciate that Jeff does not judge me when I make mistakes, especially when I am super hard on myself. He keeps it real, and is very encouraging. He creates a safe environment to play music. I have learned so much with my guitar, and I am always looking forward to the next lesson!!
Thank you Jeff for being an AWESOME teacher!

I attempt to establish what an individual’s interests in guitar are as well as to develop their understanding of musical fundamentals. I have several books that I use as examples and I write individual exercises for more specific issues to an individual’s unique style.

Learning guitar should be fun, accessible, and emphasizing the positive aspects of it to ensure a pleasant and fun experience for all involved. There is no better way to increase this process than regular lessons and practice.

To me, as both a teacher and student, the most valuable skill is to enjoy-- to enjoy every moment that comes, even the less pleasurable ones, for the true treasure lies in not the end goal but rather the path. To most young folks, the less pleasurable moments usually mean the boring ones such as studying or going to class.

Music is something that people enjoy when it comes to listening but is notorious for being just as unpleasant as any other subject, like Math for instance, when it comes to learning.

Learning takes discipline. Whenever I teach, I see myself as a navigator who guides students through their musical journey. As music is a language, my goal is for my students to become fluent and communicative in so -- being to read different forms of music notation, play songs and melodies by ear, and come up with their own compositi
ons, too-- and always while striving for that goal, my hope is for them to embrace both the fun and the less fun aspects of learning.

My 9-year-old daughter has been taking piano lessons with Andy for about a year and a half. When she started, she was brand new to music lessons and had never even tried to play an instrument- now she reads notes, plays a wide variety of songs, and has a whole new appreciation for music! Andy keeps my daughter motivated, engaged, and excited to learn by really tailoring his instruction to her interests and needs. Excellent piano teacher, thank you Andy!!

Andy is a thoughtful teacher who clearly spends considerable time figuring out how to tailor the lesson to the needs of the student. He combines rhythm activities and note reading and theory in ways that are fun, and creative, and help keep young students engaged and excited to learn. In the several months since my seven-year-old started, he reads music better than I do, but more importantly, he loves playing on the piano.

When my five year old started showing interest in the piano I knew it was time to start lessons. Andy has been great at turning a simple interest into a new ability. Our son is six now and I feel like he is better than me. He is able to recreate songs he hears as well as a little bit of free style. He's no Mozart of course, but Andy's patience and consistent training and encouragement have come a long way. I highly recommend him.

I have been playing clarinet since I was 10 years old. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I played with the El Camino Youth Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as numerous All-State and honor bands around the state. I completed my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Michigan studying with Daniel Gilbert, former clarinetist of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. During my time at Michigan I was a member of the University Symphony Orchestra and Symphony band and performed under conductors Kenneth Kiesler and Michael Haithcock. I have been passionately teaching guitar for more than 10 years and have been working as a Teaching Assistant in Classical Guitar at USC for the past three years. Before coming to the US in 2013, I taught individual and group guitar lessons at several music schools in Germany.

I have extensive experience working with students of all levels, from beginners to professional players. My youngest student so far was my 4 year old nephew, my oldest student was in his early 70's. Growing up in Germany, I have been playing the Classical Guitar for 25 years. Over the years I became a versatile musician playing not only Classical Guitar, but also electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and early instruments, like the lute and baroque guitar. I enjoy playing different styles of music from all time periods as they let me express in unique ways.

Ines has been a great teacher throughout college. Her emphasis on technique has greatly influenced how I approach guitar playing. Also, she taught me how important one's guitar tone is when playing a song the way the composer intended it to be played. It is very clear that I have improved as a guitar player while being her student and my guitar repertoire has expanded beyond just classical music.
