I am a laid back teacher, but I definitely expect students to practice what I suggest they practice. I advise that students use method books or sheet music of some sort, and I will certainly make notes for them and create materials they can learn from. I always teach based on the goals of the student and what type of music they enjoy, but I also like to guide the student in a direction I think would benefit them. I usually introduce music to play right away, conforming of course to the skill level and interest of the student. I now play seven-string guitar, which is just a six-string guitar (same tuning and technique) with an extra low string. It will be practical to aide students by accompanying with a bass range instrument.
*** Specialties ***
I consider myself a Jazz musician, but I am happy to consider a very wide range of styles. I am focusing now on music of the Spanish Golden Age, 1500-1700.

He's also a patient teacher which I appreciate. He didn't get frustrated when I struggled. Instead he focused on figuring out a different way of explaining the issue I was struggling with. We always found a way in the end.
He's also just a fascinating guy so lessons are more interesting and not just transactional. I've had other teachers in the past who were good but I didn't look forward to the lessons. It's easier to make progress when you have a creative and inspiring time with your teacher. Thanks Alex!
All levels are welcome

What are the secrets guitarists might not tell you about beginning guitar? Guitar teacher Matthew K. shares his discoveries about the guitar from early in his musical journey... I remember the day I went to the store with my father and picked up my first guitar. It was an Ibenez Stagestar with a tiny 10 watt Crate amp, and I couldnt have been more excited to get home and try it out. Dreams of being on stage in front of thousands filled my mind, but I knew it would be hard work just to get co … Read More
