About Gabriel
I view my role as an educator to be bigger than simply training a performer. I believe in creating a complete musician--one who thinks deeply about music. I accomplish this by working on, yes, the technical aspects of playing an instrument, but also through constant listening, ear-training, theory education, and history education. I engage both children and adults through fun activities that build musical knowledge.

*** Lesson Details ***
I take a multi-pronged approach to music education and, likewise, to lessons. Depending on the age and ability of the student, a lesson typically involves a brief warm-up followed by review of earlier material, introduction of new concepts or discussion of improvement areas, then a look forward at what to work on this week. The material ranges from technical exercises such as scales, thirds, finger p
atterns, etc. to ear-training activities, progressive study pieces, and long-term repertoire projects. For some students, I also add listening or light research assignments to encourage musical discovery.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have flutes to rent to students for a small maintenance fee. I provide all of the educational materials for piano students though may ask a student to purchase a book or two. I occasionally can provide or lend sheet music, but mostly I expect the student to purchase those materials as well as books for theory/history.

*** Specialties ***
My flute students receive methods all over the board from Marcel Moyse, Taffanel, and Gaubert to Trevor Wye and Wagner. My theoretical knowledge is quite comprehensive and always taught through a historical lens. My piano students (I have several young beginners currently) receive combined methods from Bartók, Faber and Faber, Bastien, Donald Waxman, and many of my own inventive techniques. I have experience with special needs students, especially with neuroatypical students.

Margaret is a wonderful instructor who provides excellent teaching. I really appreciated that she made a point of not only explaining how to hold the bow, the violin, etc, but also explaining why it's important to use certain positions and posture and how it all comes together as one continues to practice. She's also super friendly and how's a very positive and welcoming demeanor.

About Dennis
Hello, my name is Dennis Willoner.

Music and art have always been a huge part of my life. I have been playing drums for 15 years and have been teaching for 7. I grew up learning to play drums from a private instructor, and have been studying on my own ever since. I have played in many bands in my music career and have also tracked drums in studios for local artists. Today, I currently work at School of Rock in Palo Alto as a private and group instructor, and play in a professional band called Constructs.

I have been drawing ever since I can remember. I mostly draw realistically, but also like to get on the creative side. I enjoy drawing faces and people the most out of any subject. After learning so much about art, the world can be viewed in a complete other perspective.

I have been wanting to learn drawing since I was a kid. Had a few years of drawing when I was a kid and then haven't touched in a long time. When I rekindled my interest to learn, I came across Dennis.
Honestly, the reason why I chose Dennis was because he provided at-home classes and that would avoid the hassle of me having to travel. The first few classes were more of me and him warming up to each other, as I am sure he also found me different.
He comes with all the necessary equipment and spends a few minutes giving you some basics of the stuff we are going to do that day. Then he leaves you to draw while he also draws the same. He glances once in a while at your sheet and gives you very subtle feedback. If you have missed something, he will just try to nudge you in the right direction with minor comments like "Don't you think, these are of the same darkness?, There may be more highlights in this area or the mid tones here and here are of the same darkness. etc.". He never touches your paper, but only guides you.
Sometimes when some focus is needed (for example on the eyes), he will tell you the technique involved in depth and we did one full class just doing eyes, one full class on hair.
It was a little frustrating initially for me as I was not used to the teaching technique, and now I see the point. The first drawing itself turned out be much much better than I had anticipated it to be and he hasn't touched my paper till now - so this drawing is fully mine.
You can also continue drawing and send work via text message to him. You almos t always get detailed instant feedback. The only thing is, I haven't been very diligent in doing drawings due to lack of free time. So once a week for an hour is what I do.
He also spends extra time sometimes so that he can take the drawing to a logical point, sometimes even beyond 1.5 hrs though my session is for an hour each. That shows the commitment he has to his students.
I believe my work will improve as this course continues. We have had about 6 classes and I am already seeing the difference. A long way to go, but the first steps have been right - most of it due to Dennis and his method of teaching. I would say more than teaching, it is a method of mentoring where the hand holding is done in a unique way.

Mr. Lo is great.
He makes my daughter play through a piece slowly without mistake first.
And then he will sing along and she can play in a steady tempo.

My daughter has a great time with Mr. Lo for three years already, and we are looking forward for another three years with him.

About Nico
Recent UC Santa Barbara Grad from the East Bay.

I am a singer that took on the ukulele 9 years ago. Over the past 3 years I played around Santa Barbara performing local gigs & busking on State Street.

I like to challenge the preconception that the ukulele is a "toy" and expose people to what can be achieved on a small, 4-stringed instrument. I am constantly thinking of new ways to add life to my performances and arrangements.

My current goal is to share my love for the instrument through teaching & videos.
Music and performing have always been part of my life since I was 4 years old. It took me 20+ years, and 4 years for an Economics degree, to admit to myself I want to pursue and share my love for music.

About Dylan
Hey, my name is Dylan. I started playing trumpet in middle school band and have now been playing for ten plus years. I did a BM in Jazz Performance at California State University Northridge where I studied with some amazing trumpet teachers like Wayne Bergeron, John Lewis, John Daversa, and Howie Shear. Then, I went on to do a MM in Performance at Berklee School of Music where I had some incredible playing opportunities like leading a jazz combo in the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy and performing at the World of Business Ideas convention in Madrid. Inside and outside of school, I have experience playing almost any genre and feel comfortable working on reggae, ska, flamenco, jazz, bossa-nova, afro-cuban, classical, soul, rock, and electronic musics.

I produce and write my own music too. I use a lot of Ableton Live and Pro Tools and I'm
especially specialized in recording and mixing trumpet. I've done scoring, audio editing, sound design, and beat making and would be happy to teach any of those skills or even how to use a DAW.

All in all, I believe the combination of my professional experiences and my educational experiences gives me an abundance of resources to pool on when teaching. I'm just excited to be able to share all the knowledge and tricks I've learned with others!

Would you like to sing freely - with more power, stamina, breath control and fun? I have taught locally and internationally for 27 years, and studied voice for 40 years. I teach beginners through advanced professionals in all styles ranging from Opera and Musical Theater to Pop and Jazz! I have trained with some of the finest and world renowned Master Teachers and Vocal Pedagogues that have molded my teaching.

You can finally overcome your vocal obstacles, eliminate vocal tension, add more resonance and depth, and have more fun singing! I can help you find your *true voice* and explore your full potential. Being a true “vocal detective” and vocal technician, I develop and prescribe vocal exercises based on your individual needs, and then apply it to your song. I teach you how to practice correctly, and we both witness the prog
ress and steady growth.

Perhaps you want to cross-train and explore other vocal styles? Maybe Classical to Pop, Musical Theater to Opera, and more? Great! I love cross-training singers! I can teach you the tools to sing in other genres smoothly and authentically.

I can help you with audition preparation or putting on a stunning (killer) performance. My students regularly win prizes in competitions. Many have gone on to pursue professional careers in performance, or as voice teachers and choral conductors. I also provide consistent performance opportunities and offer affordable group voice classes.

Every singer is unique. Singing is the most personal art form. It is my privilege to bring out the natural voice that lies within you and develop it to its fullest potential.

Over the years I've taken voice lessons to improve core skills. Not all voice teachers are the same! I started with Ms. Rapanan’s group class just to check out her skills and style of teaching. I discovered a truly great teacher who integrates her long-earned breadth and depth (classical to pop) styles of singing into her teaching methods. This is rare! I truly enjoyed her challenging and inspiring me to push my limits. And, she's fun to work with. She has a high-energy positive teaching style. Maybe what I like most is that she personalized my lessons; taking into account my particular voice, style, and, limitations/strengths. I have not found these teaching attributes elsewhere; knowledgeable with great command. Since she is a serious -but loads of fun- teacher, I totally endorse her for serious and committed students.
