While at VanderCook Paul studied all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as music theory, conducting, and rehearsal techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students are strongly encouraged
to practice at least 30 minutes daily. Typically, my guitar and drum students will start with the first book in the Alfred Series. We keep track of progress in a journal taking baby steps where help is needed, and bigger, faster steps when things are coming easy.

I will do much of the first 3-6 months of lessons book. If and when things are going, I then add things outside the lessons book that the student is interested in, such as specific rock or pop songs that are on the students level.

I do believe in following the technique and theory books and completing at least the first in the series. This is the foundation of what your going to build your technique and music theory skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
living room converted recording studio: electronic drum kit, couch, coffee table, desk with computer and recording equipment, guitars hooked up through computer, thru monitor speakers, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
The Student should have their own instrument. If there is an opening for some sort of "recording lessons" I have recording software on my lap top for travel and even more equipment in my home.

*** Specialties ***
I am a band director I specializing in typical band style music. Classical, Baroque...etc. I use rubank often as well as the students current music for up coming performances.

However, I am also a pop musician. I use Alfred guitar method for guitar and teach this is a pop/rock fashion. Also drum set in pop/rock/jazz fashion.

Paul is a great teacher in general. He's a good bass guitar player and has some innovative ways to teach on that instrument, but his approach would work for anything.

Teresa L.

Ingleside, IL

About Teresa

I am a graduate of Northern IL University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have 22 years of teaching experience where I have traveled to the homes. Students enjoy my passion that I have with the instrument.

I started teaching in 1991 and have been teaching several students since then. Attending teacher workshops keep me at a current updated level and I want to help the students learn to the best of their potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very thorough in my teaching, which includes lesson, theory, technique, and performance
methods. I use a very easy, flexible
approach when it comes to the kids and their personalities. I expect a lot out of my students, yet still want them to learn and have fun.
After three months with me, they will have learned how my teaching style is and will be able to play several children's songs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any equipment when I travel except their books for the first lesson. I would expect the student to have a well tuned piano or a basic keyboard. The student also needs a notebook so I can write their homework down for them as well as myself to keep track of where the student is in their progress.[

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching Alfred, Bastien, and Faber and Faber. I teach General Music, Classical, Jazz, and Popular. I teach mainly through the method books, and then use other supplementary materials as well..

Jeremie met with our daughter and took the time to learn her perspective and talent level and to develop a more individualized approach to working with her. He is incorporating music theory into songwriting. We are super pleased with his beginning work with her!

Britta Y.

Round Lake, IL

About Britta

My name is Britta, and I love piano and teaching! Music has brought great joy to my life, and it all started with the piano. I am eager to share that joy and power with you.

I started playing piano before I can remember and began lessons at age 5. I studied under my phenomenal teacher in Minnesota until I moved away when I was 18. I continued playing duets and quartets at her studio anytime I was back in Minnesota. I spent a few years living abroad and at college in Chicago. I taught first graders for a year at LEARN Excel Charter School in Chicago. Now I’ve relocated to Round Lake Beach, w
here I have a beautiful 80-year-old baby grand piano and a peaceful in-home studio.

When it comes to music, I think it's important to stay relaxed, push yourself, and have fun. Learning to play an instrument like the piano can be a very rich and transformative experience for anyone. Whatever it is you're looking for in learning piano, I'm eager to help and share the gifts my teacher gave me.
