He has had masterclasses with the Metropolitan Opera's Bodo Igesz, Metropolitan Opera Singers Daniel Taylor, Jennifer Lane (with whom he still studies), French-diction coach Elvia Pucinelli, vocal pedagogue Richard Miller, and Thomas King, director of the AIMS Gratz program. He also maintains membership with various educational organizations such as the American String Teacher's Association, Music Educator'€™s National Conference, and Early Music America.

In addition to working with and coaching Grammy award-winning and nominated artists, Mr. W's students have auditioned, been selected and have performed in the Tennessee Mid-State and All-State Choir (principal positions) and Orchestra Festivals (violin and cello, in addition to being members of the Curb Youth Orchestra and Philharmonia at the Blair School of Music.

His students have also performed in several professional and amateur performances across the Southeast. They have also gone on to major in music earning tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships from prestigious conservatories and colleges across the country. Many of his students have become professional musicians across many genres, educators themselves, or satisfied amateur hobbyists.

As a teacher many have described my style as nurturing-but-firm. When I see a student's potential, I make sure that student can attain it. I expect a willingness to learn, a desire to succeed, and a want for excellence. In return, I offer the tools to get the student there!

I know that not every student benefits best from only one method. As such, I employ a variety of teaching tools and methods to best suit each student. Strings students can expect to see a little bit of traditional training, a little bit of Suzuki and little bit of contemporary training. Voice students can see some Sieber vocalizes, some Vaccai, classical, jazz, and musical theater training built on an old-world teaching technique. It's all about giving the student the tools to do whatever he/she wants with his/her music of choice!

On your first lesson, I'll go over the materials needed, what you need to work on, and the very basics so you can immediately get to enjoying your new craft. In a few months, you'll be confident making new music or making better music. Within a year, you should be well prepared for one of my studio recitals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a commercial music teaching studio used solely for the purposes of teaching. In the studio there is a piano, my music library, photo copier, computer, audio equipment, stereo, music stands, standing mirror, and various teaching tools. There is a waiting area for parents, siblings and other visitors.

*** Specialties ***
Voice: All Genres -- child-adult, all levels (beginning through advanced).
Violin: All Styles -- all levels (beginning through advanced).
Viola: All Styles -- all levels (beginning through advanced).
Cello: All Styles -- beginning through intermediate.

James has been a wonderful teacher. He has greatly helped me advance in my beginning cello skills by carefully observing, demonstrating as needed, then showing me the things I can do to improve. He does this in such a manner that instead of feeling discouraged, I am even more motivated to improve. I am learning cello as an adult simply for the fun of trying something new. My wife, who played flute on scholarship through college and some professionally has noticed, and commented, on the improvement. In summary, I highly recommend James for both adults and for kids. He just has a great knack for teaching.

Both of my children have been blessed to be learning from Nancy. My son started piano lessons this year and just loves it. He looks forward each week to seeing Nancy and loves the incentive she gives him! My son is highly motivated to practice every day. They really have fun together and my son feels challenged. Nancy is also accompanying my teenage daughter who is performing a solo piece soon in competition. They are having a great time and Nancy goes above and beyond what could ever be expected with her generous time and expertise. I cannot day enough good things.

About Jake
I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at
it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.

About Timon
Hi! I am a professional musician, songwriter, and academic living in Nashville. I have a Ph.D. and have been teaching and playing music for nearly 20 years. I teach a wide variety of methods and find what works for each of my students. All of your lessons are personally tailored just for you and your musical or learning needs. Want to hear from my current and recent students? I'm happy to provide references upon request.

Whether you want to learn some of your favorite songs, learn how to keep up with your musical friends, or explore advanced concepts in music theory and ear training, I can help you! I teach all popular and folk styles, from the classics to present day hits and top 40. Please note that I teach all skill levels in GUITAR, music theory, songwriting, and ear training. For MANDOLIN, I am only offering beginner and entry-lev
el lessons.

About me: I am a touring and studio musician as well as a songwriter. As a writer for Terrorbird Media, I write for songs for television shows, commercials, movies, and other performing artists. I also co-own and co-operate an independent record label. I live in TN with my wife, a small wire-haired terrier that looks like a cartoon character, and an embarrassingly large collection of books and vinyl records.

Timon is an amazing teacher! He takes the time to structure the lesson around exactly what I need. His easy-going approach makes learning fun and keeps me excited to continue to grow. His skills range past Mandolin. At times he will play guitar while I play mandolin which helps me learn how to work with other instruments! You will not regret lessons with Timon!

Timon is a really great guitar teacher. I am an older student who has had some previous musical education in other instruments. Timon is able to understand my goals and customize the learning plan and approach to meet me at my current level of skills and understanding. He has an incredible knowledge of music from both a theory POV as well as different genres, styles and music eras. He is really fun to work with and and is always supportive and encouraging. I look forward each week to the learning process. I definitely believe I will be a much better, more well-rounded guitar player working with Timon than I would be with other teachers that I have met.

About Anna
My name is Anna Arata and I would love to be your new voice teacher! I am a professional singer, songwriter, and recording artist here in Nashville.

I started studying the voice when I was 11 years old. This included taking private voice lessons (classical primarily) and participating in several musical theater shows, a middle school jazz choir, and was a member of the Boston Children’s Choir. Through high school and part of college, I participated in musicals, co-lead a girl’s a capella group, performed in a show choirs, and was selected for the All States choir in Massachusetts in 2010. On college breaks, I also volunteered as a teaching assistant (TA) for my former middle school jazz choir. In May 2015, I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music, specifically in Commercial Voice. Through my music studies, I have
taken several music theory classes, which have contributed to my ability to analyze music in a technical way. Until now, I have accumulated over 10 years of voice lessons for myself, ranging from classical/opera studies to commercial styles.

Since moving to Nashville in 2012, I have worked tirelessly to confidently hold the title of a “working musician.” While in college, I started and managed my own swing band, specializing in 30’s-40’s jazz. In our time, we were a part of several radio shows (including Music City Roots), opened for large acts, recorded EP’s and records, and organized tours in the greater Midwest area. Post college and disbanding, I have had many performance-based professional singing opportunities. For the past two years, I have served as the lead singer for the Grand Hotel Orchestra on Mackinac Island, MI. There, I was contracted for two 2.5 month stays during which I performed a variety of jazz and pop classics 7 nights a week. In Nashville, I have successfully gathered my own jazz band. I am a regular performer at Rudy’s Jazz Room in the heart of Nashville. I am capable of leading my own groups and all of the organizing that entails – creating charts/books, calling players, leading rehearsals. Additionally, I am in my first semester of volunteering for W.O. Smith School as a music theory instructor.

Super great teacher all around! Gives great tips and information but is not too harsh. He puts the lesson in the student's hand and allows his students to choose what they want to work on and how. However, Ben's best quality is his all-around personality. Very nice man and treats you not as much of a student than as a friend.

About Sage
I am a 25 year old professional Nashville-based touring and session drummer with a passion for tasteful, dynamic, theory-based drumming.

In the past 10+ years, I have performed with and recorded for upwards of 25 different bands and artists, toured the US numerous times, and currently play drums for a well-known Warner Brothers Records pop-artist and producer, with over 8 million album streams.

I use the PASS teaching system.
P.A.S.S. stands for Placement, Accent, Sticking, and Subdivision.
I use this system to develop the tools a student will need to learn, write, perform and record in any playing situation, regardless of musical genre.
I also spend time with each student working on click-track training, music theory, hand technique, proper drumming posture, melodic drumming concepts, how to think creativity on the drum kit, and
more.

I teach my students how to play for the song they're playing and the band they're playing it with--rather than for themselves.
My goal is to get drummers on the kit, performing confidently and capably as quickly as possible, without cutting corners or ignoring their individual needs and interests.

I am passionate about music and sharing the joy of playing drums with up and coming drummers of all ages.
I was homeschooled my entire life, and love including the concepts I learned during my school years in my teaching.
This means getting to know each of my students and their individual interests so that I can put together lesson plans that are tailored specifically for each one of them.
Tailoring lessons to the individual is extremely important when attempting to keep the student excited and interested in music as the more difficult and "boring" aspects of learning an instrument arise.

My goal is to see my students leaving each lesson more excited and passionate about drumming than when they began.

Let's get started today!
