Ms. Ruth is fantastic teacher. My 7 year old daughter is learning Piano from her since last one year and we are so happy to see her progressing constantly well. She makes sure that my daughter understands her music (notes) well and she is clear on her concepts.

My 8 year old son has been taking piano lessons from Ruth for about 6 month now. She is wonderful with him. They do as much giggling as they do playing the piano but he is learning so much! My son will likely never be a spectacular pianist but he will learn to love music and playing for his own enjoyment from Ruth. She is giving him a tremendous gift that could last the rest of his life.
Michael M. Pennington, NJ

About Michael

Born and raised in New Jersey, I have been involved with music for many years. The instruments that I play include Trumpet, French Horn, Handbells, Organ, Voice, and Piano. I received my formal education at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, which is where I earned a B.A. degree with Honors in Music. In order to obtain my Honors, I chose to develop elementary lessons on Chinese folk music. In my Junior year of college, I performed a dual media recital in both Voice and Piano, and for my Senior year recital, I focused on giving a Vocal performance. These recitals demonstrated the musical talent and techniques that I had developed throughout my experience at college. In addition to my musical experiences in college, I have also learned about various pedagogical approaches through both

My daughter and I have started taking piano lessons about 3 months back and we are happy to say that our experience learning with Mike has been excellent. He has so much experience which he is able to use to help out novices like us who are just starting to learn. His patience and good humor is what we need the most at this stage. He helps us relax and encourages us to try again and again until we get the hang of it. He sets the pace according to our pace of learning and this helps us stay positive and motivated.

We recommend Mike to all prospective students. I am sure everyone would benefit from lessons with him. We are sure to learn from him for a long time to come if we manage not to overcome his patience.

I've been taking piano lessons with Mike for 2 years. He introduced me to new types of music and was always looking for pieces he thought I would enjoy. I learned a great deal of technique and skills as well as music theory to help me in my musical future. I appreciate all the time you spent with me. Thank you for the past two years.

Alexandra P. Princeton, NJ

About Alexandra

I am interested in teaching private lessons to each individual student - taking into account your goals, strengths, weaknesses, and background. I will never teach by a method that does not account for the unique qualities of each student. I use what I have learned through many years of musical study to teach you in the most efficient and beneficial way, based on YOUR needs. As a voice student, I will ask you about your taste in music, what your goals are as a singer, and encourage you to suggest repertoire you'd like to learn. In addition, I will do an assessment of your entire voice - from posture and breathing to articulation and expression - and introduce repertoire that will help you become a better singer. I am comfortable teaching pieces written in English, Latin, French, ...

great teacher

I've never taken voice lessons before, so I didn't know what to expect. But Allie is great, very likeable. She really takes your preferences into considerations. We do breathing exercises, vocal warmups, and work on several songs at a time. I love the range of songs Allie has me work on: an Italian classical piece, a French pop song, a Broadway piece, a jazz piece, etc.

Great learning experience

I took flute lessons from Hilary at NYU after several years of not playing at all. I was rusty and had accumulated quite a few bad habits, from poor posture to improper breathing. Starting out, part of my difficulty was in forgetting these habits and starting anew. Not only was Hilary very patient with me, but she also taught useful techniques along the way.

I also had a weak foundation in basic music theory, and Hilary's review lessons were incredibly helpful -- I found myself looking at sheet music and playing scales with a completely different mindset. I can honestly say that I improved significantly (and now I even find myself checking my posture when I'm not playing!). After having taken such a long break, I wasn't sure whether I'd want to start playing again. Hilary's lessons and supportive attitude helped renew my interest and for that I'll always be grateful!

Hilary is an amazing teacher

Hilary is an amazing teacher with a ton of knowledge about flute performance. During my time with her, my playing and musicality improved drastically. She has a lot of flute-playing metaphors up her sleeve that make it easy to understand more complicated techniques.

I would absolutely recommend her as a teacher.

As fun as she is professional!

I took flute lessons with Hilary during my senior year at NYU. I had never played flute before in my life, but I had gotten one as a gift and decided I might as well try and learn. I was very lucky to have chosen Hilary as my teacher!

I had taken music lessons in varying instruments every single semester while at NYU, and Hilary was easily the most memorable and enjoyable teacher I had. While most of my music teachers made our lessons seem like another class, Hilary's passion, excitement, and humor made learning the flute a fun adventure that I looked forward to each week.

In our first lesson, she was able to show me exercises and techniques that got me further in my flute playing than months of trying to teach myself online. In just a few weeks, I knew more than I was expecting to by the end of the whole semester, and I was rewarded by being able to play short but beautiful flute music.

If there was ever a time when I was having trouble with a particular concept or technique, Hilary was always able to either clarify it for me, or explain it in an alternate way until I got it. If I ever had any questions - and I had a lot of them - she was always able to answer them.

I not only learned a lot about the flute, but I had fun while doing it, which for me is the best way to learn an instrument. If you are considering taking flute lessons, I highly recommend you take them with Hilary!

Acoustic Guitar · In studio
I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for 3 months now and have learned so much in that time. I was excited to learn the acoustic guitar, but a bit nervous since I have never taken any type of musical lesson or have ever had any success with learning an instrument. Jimmy's patience and fun personality put me at ease right away. I am an elementary teacher of over 20 years, so I could tell that I had made the right choice in coming to Jimmy for lessons. Jimmy takes the time to teach music theory, which I appreciate, and answers any questions that have. He is a very dedicated musician whose experience and knowledge become apparent as he teaches his students, and when you view his studio. He is very reliable, always getting back to me quickly when I correspond with him. If I have had to change lesson days due to weather or family commitments, he is always understanding and flexible. I highly recommend him to other perspective students and look forward to growing as a musician with him as my teacher!
